Re: Screen is defective
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýLou,that makes me sad. ?other than the LCD issue it has been a fine radio.?
Maybe someone knows a replacement screen - hopefully..?
if not, x5105 for sale with flakey screen.? On Apr 12, 2023, at 7:49 AM, Lou N2JPR <lbellock@...> wrote:

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGood luck with Xiegu direct. I have submitted 4 online emails in the last 2 years and never heard back. Not even a reference to a US Dealer who could help. ? Best 73, Lou N2JPR ? Sent from for Windows ? From: wayne Michael

Re: X5105 Battery

Internal Li-ion chargers are typically conservatively-designed to charge at a slow rate to avoid short circuiting the battery due to 1) a poorly designed charger, and 2) thermal runaway; both primary causes for Li-ion battery explosion. The faster a Li-ion battery is charged, the greater the danger of explosion. Patience is certainly, a virtue.
I also use my 13.8VDC external power source primarily for my X5105 and rarely use the internal battery. My 13.8VDC power source is a standard car battery, which works fine. Lou N2JPR |

I don't see it specifically mentioned in the group, but my X5105 internal battery was sitting at a shade over 10V today (doesn't really affect me, I always use an external power source anyway). I plugged it in to my home shack's 13.8V power supply and turned on the charger. The charger only appears to be drawing a third of an amp, which more than explains why it takes forever and a day to charge.
I'm sure some industrious electrical engineer could DIY a better charger, maybe by bypassing the internal one somehow, but I know my limitations, and that person certainly isn't me. :) |

After charging for 15 hours, the meter only reads 85% and thr battery voltage is reading 10.7v.? One other thing, as someone previously posted to this group, the percentage battery displayed while operating represents the percentage of max voltage not the capacity of the battery that is left.? There is a subtle difference.?There is a way to change that battery display to show the actual battery voltage while operating, which is less deceiving. I just did this recently on my X5105 but?I don't remember which button you press and hold to make this change (it should be in the manual).? Cheers Michael VE3WMB? P.S. On a completely unrelated note ... playing around with my X5105 settings at home I recently discovered that if you adjust the EQ settings to drop both the lows and highs to -12dB and boost the mid-range to +12dB then reception on CW sounds a whole lot better.? I guess that this is essentially implementing an Audio Peak filter for CW.? I have found that I can run the rig at lower audio volume setting and received CW stations really pop out without a lot of background hiss. One of the common complaints of this rig is the rather harsh sounding receive audio.? I also tried using a cheap pair of Maxell 32 ohm headphones instead of my usual 8 ohm ones and that seems to help too.? |
X5105 Battery

I think I know the answer to this one, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
What is the implication of removing the battery from the X5105, in terms of operation? I never use the internal battery, since I always carry a 4.5Ah LiFePO4 in my bag that charges what feels like an order of magnitude faster than the internal battery. Does the stock 3800mAh battery provide persistent power for the internal unit settings, or does it use a smaller coin-style battery for that? In a somewhat related question, has anybody ever tried bypassing the charging circuit to charge the internal battery, to get it to charge faster. I'd stop carrying the external battery with me if I could get the internal one to charge faster than the 8-12 hours that it currently takes. Mine also appears to have a significant parasitic draw in it, so I have to watch it like a hawk. |
Re: Battery issue?
First, download the manual from Radioddity, if you don't have one.
The manual says: "Voltage of battery is generally between 12.1~12.5V after charging. " It also describes charging at 13.5 volts. Batteries for the X5105 are not available in the U.S. and can't be shipped.? Some kind of hazard regulation prevents it. -------- Doug, K8RFT |
Battery issue?
I just bought a used X5105 from a local ham.? He gave me a small 12v 1a wall wart charger that he'd been using with it.? He said he fully charged it, but the battery only said 82%.? I didn't check the voltage.??
I was playing around with it for a little couple hours, not transmitting, just going through menus etc.? When it dropped to about 78% the battery died.? I plugged it in overnight for about 15 hours. While it was charging it said external voltage was about 11.8v and the battery voltage was 10.89v. After charging for 15 hours, the meter only reads 85% and thr battery voltage is reading 10.7v.? This doesn't seem right.?? Is there something wrong with the battery, or do I just need to get a better charger? If I have to replace the battery, where can I get one in the US?? Ideas?? |
Replying to myself and to anyone else that needs it: The database on WSJT doesn't really have data for the X5105. I read somewhere else that the X5105 uses the same commands as the ICOM 7000. I input the ICO 7000 on the settings, and voila', everything works. Now to lear to use WSJT

Which software or device is saying "not responding"?? Omnirig?? If you're not sure which, then is omnirig running when you get the message?? I recently tried switching to a DigiRig interface, and spent many frustrating hours trying to make the interfacing softwares work.?
For CIV control of the X5105, it responds to commands for Icom rigs like IC-7000, IC-7100, and some older Icoms.? Also, try setting the rig as Xiegu G90 and see if that works. Unfortunately, I was so tired and frustrated when I finally got mine to work that I forgot to document all the settings.? I had been doing that in earlier stages of setup by taking screenshots and saving them to a file directory location I set up especially for them. Taking - and saving - screenshots can help a lot with the setting up records. -------- Doug, K8RFT |

Re: Receive is very very attenuated - maybe need to update
I've never been able to use minicom to update the X5105 and I've never found anyone who has.? I've asked here, on Facebook, Youtube, wherever I could find X5105 users.? I gave up, installed WINE and used Teraterm.? However, it's not an issue anymore for me because i doubt we'll ever see another FW update for this rig.? (unless I pick one up for a good price at a hamfest :-) )
That being said, a FW update won't fix a burnt out component issue in any case. Kevin w2nc |
