brush

what can I do if the brush of an early ww is worn?

I assume you are speaking of the brush which rides against the hook on the curved needle W&W machines. So far I have been fortunate in that mine have had brushes that were still in good condition. I have "Heard", but not tried, that a small piece of leather can be substituted for the brush. It just needs to be something which can be fit against the hook to catch & hold the thread?until the proper time for release. It might be worth a try.

HI Miller and group,

? I have heard from someone outside the group they used horse hair to make the brush.? Likely some type of horse hair and natural glue that can be reset and removed easily like the veneer has on most of the vintage machine cabinets.

Best regards,
Mike

I also recall someone saying they used a piece of velcro as a substitute.
But I don't recall whether it was the loops or the hooks.

I asked you this question because I was for christmas in palermo and here was my first ww, only head . in time but with 'something' ...? ?in two thre days I could sew something as 40 stitches.? the same difficulties in picking up the under thread, etc. so I thought 'maybe the brush is worn?'? a worn brush, which? effects can produce?

Happy New Year to beautiful Palermo.? I lived in the Catania area for 4 years on slope of Mount Etna in the town of Belpasso :)??

Best regards/ciao,
Mike
