? I have heard from someone outside the group they used horse hair to make the brush.? Likely some type of horse hair and natural glue that can be reset and removed easily like the veneer has on most of the vintage machine cabinets.

I assume you are speaking of the brush which rides against the hook on the curved needle W&W machines. So far I have been fortunate in that mine have had brushes that were still in good condition. I have "Heard", but not tried, that a small piece of leather can be substituted for the brush. It just needs to be something which can be fit against the hook to catch & hold the thread?until the proper time for release. It might be worth a try.
