Re: 9W model?

If I had time, and that is a very big if, I would like to check the advertising for the different machines and use those images to determine changes in the machines.?? The W&W would be of no help.? Mr. Wheeler was a consummate believer in public media of his era - the newspapers-to sell the W&W machines.?? The other companies followed suit and the race was on.? W&W did not change illustrations in their user booklets for the individual types.

That said, the trade documents at the Smithsonian would help also however, most are not scanned.??? When the Smithsonian reopens, I recommend anyone; in the DC area to contact them and volunteer to scan the documents and books.?? The SI catalog shows a 120-page W&W catalog presumably with illustrations.? I contacted SI last year and they would be pleased to have the help when things open again.? The information is in the public domain and making it available serves the greater good.? The book with the Singers made W&W would answer many questions.? All research is about documentation and verification.?

One way to see if a W&W is Singer-made is to look for part numbers on the various parts.?? My g-greatmother's machine has Singer part numbers and is in the 3+ million serial number range.

Good hunting.

MB,

The past owner or moderator of the group was Miller Fulks who passed about a year or two ago.? He was a retired machinist and very knowledgable about all things W&W and repair.? Much of his work is in the group files and old discussion topics.? They are well worth looking over.? Anything from Miller is gospel.
