""I do not have a #8 handcrank, but the #8 W&W machine turns the same direction as a Singer. Pictures of the hand crank for a #8 look much like a Singer crank turned upside down. As I recall there were two styles of these. One attached to the pillar of the machine & requires some mill work as machine not equipped with them were not normally fitted for it. The other style as I recall fit to the wood base of the case.""
Correction to the above. I was typing faster than I was thinking. Earlier #8 machines did have the crank assemble pillar mounted but they were gear driven, I do not believe they had a belt pulley at all. Later #8 cranks were mounted on the base & were the ones which looked similar to an upside down Singer crank. The larger crank gear (Drive) was at the top & the small driven gear was at the bottom.
