Selling my W - looking for advice
Hey folks, As much as I hate to do it, I'm selling my W - I've had some great years with it and I love the bike, but there isn't enough room in the garage and with three bikes I'm not riding the W as much as I should be. Time for it to go to someone else who will love it and ride it like it deserves. So... I put an ad on Craigslist about a week ago and got one response. He asked if it had ever been dumped, and I was honest and told him that it took one stationary fall. I also told him that it landed on my leg so there was very little damage, and the parts that were scraped up (mirror, gear shift, clutch lever, and front turn signal lens) were replaced with Kawasaki OEM parts. Never heard back from him... I did price the bike at the top of what I think is reasonable ($5,400) for a bike with 22.5K miles and some bolt-on modifications. I'm really kind of surprised by the lack of response and I'm wondering what you guys think. Did I price it too high? Is it the mileage or the customizations (I have all the stock parts and they are included in the sale)? I know the answer should be: KEEP IT! But I've made the decision to let it go. I would be very interested in what you guys think, and I'm also wondering if I should just bag Craigslist and try an Ebay auction. I've never sold a bike on Ebay and I really don't want to hassle with shipping, but I'll do it if it helps move the bike. Any words of wisdom on selling a bike through Ebay? The Craiglist listing it here:
Oh, and if you all know anyone that's looking.... ?:-) The other thing about selling the bike is that I'll really miss this group. I've learned a lot over the years. Thanks in advance for any help or tips. Skip |

I think that if there were more interested buyers in your area they would have made some kind of offer. I'd keep the price as is and just continue to run the ad, as long as you're under no pressure to sell. And just because you've sold the bike is no reason to leave the group. I sold mine in 2006! ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýTry posting your ad in the Boston area. I¡¯m sure there would be a lot of
interest in a big city full of hipsters.

I've had my W650 since 2004. I love it and hope to ride it for many more years. It's in excellent condition and?all original except for a modified Sargent seat and better suspension. It's worth a bunch to me! But if I put it out there asking $5400 I wouldn't expect to get many responses. $3500 to $4000 seems to be the going rate. :( Jerry |

I love my W so much I now have 2! I recently purchased Ed's 2001 W for $4,000 with Hard bags, a Corbin Gunfighter and Lady seat w/Backrest, a tail rack and engine guards, and only 5,400 mile on the clock! While I realize Ed gave me, a fellow Forum member,? a great deal, we are talking about a 15 year old Motorcycle so I agree with Jerry, you may be asking too much. Have you checked out the new Triumphs? they've done what Kawasaki apparently was unwilling to do to keep the W family alive, that's your brand new competition! Alohapaul From: "firecaptp7@... My 2 cents worth coming from the West Coast...... ?I sold my 2000 bike on eBay with less than 10k miles, a spare Corbin seat for $3500 last year. I was disappointed as I thought it would fetch more than that given the rarity of them in the US. According to my friend at Kawasaki he recalls that KUSA ordered 1,000 of them initially and then an additional 100 in order to be able to place one at each dealership. By the time the 2001 models were out, 50% of the 2000 models were still unsold, so they only ordered 500 of the 2001 editions. So, if that is correct only 1600 of them ever hit the US shores in 2 years.
I'm not sure that this is the best time of the year for selling a bike, at least back East with all the weather issues and the fact that younger people are headed back to school after their summer flings. Bike sales, even out here are pretty slow now.?W650s are pretty much geared for us older folks these days, anyway.. I am 68 and ride it every weekend with friends for about 60-70 miles on a Sunday breakfast run.? I am on my third W650, a 2001 model which had suffered a crash, but mostly off road into the dirt. Steering stop was sheared off and the gas tank got a nasty dent from the forks. Fortunately, as a list subscriber, I was able to secure a take-off 2001 fuel tank for less than getting the old one reworked. I have light spring Hagons on the back and fork spring upgrades up front. B45 tires on both ends with the smaller size rear as recommended. It is my most favored bike to ride of the 250+ bikes I have owned in the past 50 years. I bought it damaged for $2500 with 5k miles on the odometer. I have spent about $1,000 on the tank, new front fender, mirror and a used headlight shell. There are still a few scratches on it here and there but it is a rider not a show bike. Still it presents well and people always think it is a vintage Triumph. Love my W! Bill Silver |

Your ad is very well written. and I think your asking price is fair.. I would try ebay and let the buyer worry about the shipping. There are plenty of shippers out there.
Cycle Trader is another popular selling venue. It will go eventually. Its the same old story with these bikes, everybody loves them but nobody BUYS them. Bought mine new in 2002 and and get tons of compliments every time I take it out but have NEVER had anyone ask me if I wanted to sell it! |

I put my 2001 W up for sale last month and apperently I'm asking too much and need to lower the price. I thought 5k was a good price, I'm going to lower it to $4500. RR On Monday, August 1, 2016 6:23 PM, "whitj@... [W650riders]"
