Re: NWC: salty conditions - what to do
Dennis,
I must admit that I don't ride much once the gritting lorries hit the road, but I live 1/4 mile from the sea and drive my old Land Rover all year round, I've found ACF 50 to work very well at keeping the old tin worm at bay. It looks expensive, but goes a very long way, a ?12.00 can will treat all the vulnerable areas of the truck for a year..it's also important to stop salty crud forming in nooks and crannies..I use a low pressure power hose, but that's probably not the best thing for a bike... Re: Still Looking for W Bags
stevesw650
My bike came fitted with a set of Kawasaki Saddle bags but of a
different style, more like something you would see on a Harley with studs, tassels and three strips with Kawasaki cast into the buckles. Look like they were made in Germany going by the mounting instructions. Anyway I have a Ventura rack and pack to carry gear so may look at selling them if anyone is interested. --- In W650riders@..., "willyboy54" <willyboy54@...> wrote: Germany but... the seller, Silverneck in Germany gets about $750 US, plusor minus depending on the exchange rate for the combo. Re: Luggage Rack and Left side carb needle WTD and other stuff
William Silver
开云体育I checked the part number for the left needle with local dealership, which reports that this part is on Backorder with no availability date.?I did send a message to twistedthrottle over the
weekend, waiting for reply..? See how the shipping rates play out to
Hawaii...? USPS is the best choice for us, but often not for busy
businesses that don't want/choose to use ClicknShip from the PO.
I found a catalog online showing 99990909B as
rack part number. Correct? 99990908 is supports for saddlebags, according to
that listing.? J2000-0048 on the Japan site for the rack, so no parity
there with part numbers...?
W650 Shop site is a good one! Prices look better
than those in the UK... ? Dunno about shipping, though.
?
I have turned over 650 miles on this bike, now.
Seems to be running well, but too bad about the scorched right side header...
Not getting worse now, however, since the rejetting and needle shimming
routines.?Color at the tail pipes looks to be a match now. You could see
the difference before I rejetted it and added another shim?to the right
side.?
?
I have a somewhat noisy 3rd gear set in the trans.
Is that unusual or normal with these bikes? Sometimes, I am not sure if I am in
4th or 5th, when I am cruising around town, but I ALWAYS know when I am in
3rd... whiny, whiny..noises.
?
The other odd thing, which I think I have fixed, is
that the handlebars seemed to be tweaked to the right side, even though there is
no sign of the bike tipping over or crashing. I finally loosened all the fork
bolts and the stem nut, held the front wheel in between my legs and cranked it
back to the left. Tightened it back up again and it seems to have straightened
it out to normal now. Maybe that is why Kawasaki beefed up the front end on the
2001s.
?
Oh, last question/comment. Can I either bend the
instrument bracket or order the 2001 version to get the meters more angled back
to me. I can barely see the warning lights, as it sits. I keep riding around
with the turnsignals on because I can barely notice the light on the tach. I am
about ready to swap the positions with the center one and/or see if there is a
brighter light bulb for that function.
?
Sorry for the ramble, but it is all new to
me...? a W650 for MrHonda!

Posted by: "Salvyrider" salvyrider@... ?Sun Sep?30,?2007 4:43?pm (PST)Luggage racks have become
problematic. Twisted Throttle has an aftermarket rack but some members have discovered new pricing in the $1 million range. The other option is W650 Shop but also can be pricey unless you live in Europe. You can get part numbers from this page (I think) and see if Jeff from Z1 can order them for you. Please post progress for group - thanks! |

开云体育I have been told that the only thing to do is to
keep washing off the bike, especially the aluminum bits & engine.? The
advice has come a little late for me, unfortunately.

NWC: Re: The best day off.
开云体育The wheelies do rule, but the day before another
guy did try a stoppie, kinda. He went off the runway into the grass. That's not
too bad, what was bad was that he tried to taxi BACK onto the runway, which has
a 6-inch dropoff into the grass. Busted the front wheel assembly pretty
badly.

NWC: salty conditions - what to do
开云体育What do those that ride in salt air near the ocean do about
corrosion? Or on salted roads? Is there some protectant or preventive? How about
cleaning up?
?
Asking for a friend, I don't have this problem.

Re: Corbin Gunfighter For Sale
开云体育Both the Gunfighter and Gunfighter&Lady
are an improvement over the stock (2000) seat, and both are the same from the
driver's seat.? The stock seat felt too much like an ironing board with
concrete padding, tilted a little too much toward the front.? Since the
Gunfighter rules out passengers and since I nabbed the G&L for less than
half the cost of new it was an easy choice to make.? I wish the butt-scoop
of the Corbin was about an inch further back though.? I may eventually farm
the stock seat out to be redone and sized for my dimensions.

Re: The best day off.
开云体育Shoot, I've done that. Of course they wouldn't let me do the
actual driving. And there were about 140 people in there with me. Cost about
$500 every time I did it. And I had to wait in a lot of lines too. The body
cavity search wasn't any fun either.

I've seen that the hose is longer and the K&N tucked up
higher where the airbox used to be. Maybe that will help.

I absolutely love the whole nod/smile/horn thing. I think I'll give it a whirl, and add a wink of the eye too. Who knows, it just might be the charm that's needed. I'll let you know the results, ? Kindest Regards, ? David Hazel Clarke wrote:

Blow-by mess
davseidman
I've fitted individual air filters on each carb, so the hose that lead
to the airbox (which no longer exists) from the crankcase has been cut short and fitted with a neat little K&N filter. The set up looks good, but an oil mist sometimes gets blown out of the filter--mostly when I'm running hard. This makes a mess of the nearby parts. Any ideas on how to eliminate, reduce, or redirect this blow-by? David |
