Spotted this in the campsite at the BSAOC rally in Jabbeke.? I think it is a 125cc but it certainly went well; it passed us soon after we set off home (we were in the van!)

Re: [NHC] vintage track tire suggestions?

A 110/90/18 is basically the same as a 4.00/90. The TT100/K81 is still available in the UK in 4.00/18 but I'd definately put a BT45 110/90/18 on the back...or a 120/90 if the 110 was hard to get. That's what the air-cooled RD racers recommend...paired with the Avon Venom front
Jon

ps...I got 6 copies of your email...is that you, Yahoo, or me I wonder?

I put Dunlop K-81s on my RD 350 and CB 400 F back in 1975, those were the
tire to have back then.

Dunlop makes a TT100, which, I am told, is the tire to replace the K-81.

My RD and my CB had 3.00 X 18 front, 3.50 X 18 rear as standard equipment
(probably the same size as came on the 305 Hawk you have.

The CYCLEWORLD "A Step Further" article, November 1974, on hopping up the
RD, said they went with Goodyear prototype tires with a 90% aspect ratio
(good luck finding those) in 3.25 X 18 front, and 4.00 by 18 rear.

The popular size for the K-81s was 3.60 X 18 front, and 4.10 X 18 rear,
that's what the magazine guys all recommended. I swear they didn't look any
bigger than the stock tires..stuck better though. I don't know if the
sizing would be the same for the TT100s.

I was in Jr. High during the mid sixties, Honda Cubs, 50 Super Sports, CA
200s (Benly 90s) and S 90s were everywhere..I saw several guys take their
girl friends home from school on their motorcycles..girls sitting side
saddle...we didn't have velcro yet, so I don't know how they stayed on.

There was a "dress code" and girls had to wear a skirt to school unless the
temp was less than 35 degrees F..I grew up in Florida..and I can't remember
it being 35 F here in those days.

There was only one girl in school who had her own motorcycle, Linda Kenedy,
and I never saw her ride it to school.

I didn't have a girl friend until high school, and she either wore koulottes
(I am obviously guessing on this spelling) or hiked her skirt up and
straddled the seat.

I love watching people trying to start hotted up Gold Stars… Saw someone nearly reach escape velocity in Southend a few years back

R,
On my second bike, a '69 XLCH Sportster, which I bought new in the
summer of '68, the left hand grip was used to retard or advance the
ignition. If one forgot and tried to start it on full advance it
would "ever-so-gently" remind you of your trangression by trying to
launch the operator a** over tea-kettle into outer space
somewhere...

Usually I could start it up with just two or three kicks though
(unless it was real cold out) which was considered pretty good for
that model. I think that '69 was the last year of that magneto
ignition on the Sportsters, too.

Now I’m confused… I thought the Enfield Meteor or constellation was sold as an Indian???

That is a Brittish "Indian", I think, because of copy rights, it can be
called an Indian in England, but if it were sold in the USA, it would be
sold as a Dakota.

Anyway, it is a much better "Indian" than those S&S V-Twin powered
California Motorcycle Company cookie cutter chopper things that won the
rights in court, to use the Indian trademark in the USA.

The advance lever was still around in the 50’s, earlier there were even “air” lever as well so that you culd adjust the carb mixture on the fly…
