Nod and smile at everybody including the Harleys;
if you do it often enough they'll learn and smile back.? If they're really
trying too hard to be cool, jump up and down waving and sounding the horn

Perhaps you should have a scooter as a second bike

Re: NWC: google earth
Gene,
I use Google Earth a lot for my 6th grade Geography class. It is a blast. I am gonna have to check out that new golf course in Bandon with it (Pacific Dunes). I live in Tennessee but lived in Florence Oregon for 6 years in the early 90's. I miss the Oregon coast... except for the wind. --- In W650riders@..., "Gene Fitch" <cafeboy@...> wrote: program. NWC: google earth
开云体育Hi all,
If you have a fast connection, google earth is a
fantastic free program. For those who haven't seen it, it starts off with a view
of the earth from outer space. You can enter a country, state, county or even a
specific address in the search box and you fly right to it. You can tilt, pan,
zoom in, etc.
?
They've recently added a feature where you can
upload pictures or info links (like wikipedia)?of an area. It puts a dot on
the map and when you click on it, the photo or link comes up.

stuff in the movies.?
?
I'm going to try uploading a picture of Dennis' and
my W at the beach here in Bandon, Oregon.

Still Looking for W Bags
This is an appeal to the group. I am looking for a set of Kawasaki
made W650 saddle bags and the appropriate mounting rack. You can view a picture of these bags in my pictures. Through the kind assistance of Dick Tym, I've found a set in Germany but... the seller, Silverneck in Germany gets about $750 US, plus or minus depending on the exchange rate for the combo. This is bit spicy for my budget. Does anyone know of another source in any country that will ship to the US (without the price of an upper and lower limb)? Are there any large shops that might have one sitting in the storeroom? Are there any places that deal in used or discontinued items in your area? Thanks, Willyboy |

Re: The best day off.
开云体育Wow. I just looked at google earth and I could see
your house too.? ;->
?
Interesting, Greymouth, NZ?and Bandon, Oregon
are very similar. Look at the Google earth view and you'll see we are on a river that empties into the ocean too.?
Right about where you have that big oblong thing
(what the heck is that anyway?) at the mouth of the river, we have a
lighthouse.
It looks like we are both about the same distance
from the equator. I wonder if the weather is similar? Ours is mild with a
temperature average around 40F - 60F all year. Being on the coast?we get
some big storms in the winter, though.
?
Google earth is getting pretty interesting with all
the pictures and links put right on the map. I just spent some time looking at
the sights. It's certainly a beautiful place "down" there. Very intense
green.

Re: thoughts on a loud snapping sound when starting the engine
开云体育Ah, Dennis, I think you may have provided the most
telling evidence of all. If the W650 no longer does the snapping thing, it means
you've run out of snaps and should contact the dealer to have more installed,
because you've run out of the factory?provided snaps.

Re: And then there were two
Ok, Pete, when I strike it rich (looks like it's going to have to be
a big lottery win) I'll fly you and the Versys across the big pond. I'll also offer to bring Pete Cordell up with his Tiger and Ray Ford with his Wee-Strom. I'll bring my W along and we'll tour the Cabot Trail in the Cape Breton Highlands (eastern Canada). That way I'll be able to do a hands-on comparison of the four bikes that currently most interest me. My apologies for having difficulty distinguishing two different people with the same first name. For some of us, each new day brings unexpected challenges... Interesting comment you make re the Versys' revvy nature and potential suitability for dirt roads. I would probably need to quit my job and spend the next seven years trying to figure out how to fit a W650 engine in a Versys frame. The end result would likely entail a substantial amount of duct tape. :-) I took a ride late this afternoon to my favourite ice cream stand, which is a short ferry crossing and a 45 minute ride from home (ok, it's not the closest, but offers a nicer run). Could have used the heated grips and hand guards on Ray's V-Strom, as I had a couple of fingers starting to numb on my return trip. Summers are much too short up in these parts. Charles ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ --- In W650riders@..., "petetibble" <petetibble@...> wrote: Best thing will be if you fly me and my bike over to New England from Old England, then you can give it a good tryout on roads you know. Can't say fairer than that! I have to say that my initial feelings are that the Versys would be highly unsuited to dirt roads due to it's rather revvy nature. I think what you need is a W650 engine in a Versys frame. That's a little job for the weekend.... Pete |
