....and it`s great! It?s a 2000 model with less than 16000 km on the clock, and I love it. It has been fitted with ohlins rear shocks since the originals were useless. The tyres are TT100 dunlops and it handles beautifully. One little problem though - the clocks have a mist of water inside them? Do i have to take them all apart and change gaskets? Fill them with silicone? Kill myself?

The hand operated advance/retard lever was common on Brit bikes before the development of the spring loaded auto-advance mechanism. You set it retarded for starting, minimising kick-backs and ensuring a slow, lazy tick-over from cold, and advanced it for fast running. You could also retard the ignition to slog up hills, which was ideal if you were pulling a chair with the family on board!

Re: throttle sensor adjustment
Thanks, Anita. I have since played with that adjustment (there's not much adjustment latitude), but it seems that one can't adjust it enought to bring on the full ignition advance much sooner than the standard specification, which is perhaps more conservative than necessary for very best performance. --- In W650riders@..., Anita Reid <anita_reid@...> wrote: This is the info I got from my husband.
Connect the throttle sensor setting adapter between the sensor wire
connectors. start engine
operate engine at idle speed
loosen sensor mounting screws
adjust sensor mounting position to set the sensor output voltage to
standard and tighten the mounting screws. He actually only adjusted my throttle not the sensor.

I'm beginning to suspect that the throttle position sensor, which does not provide full advance of 35 degrees until 5,000,is too conservative. Happily, the throttle sensor is adjustable. Naturally, one does not want to go to far with this as it may provoke "knock." Does any have any experience adjusting this thing for a better advance curve?

Re: NWC: Back from hols etc
?
I was thinking about that
Starfire. It's a damn shame it's got a 3TA lump in it...They were a little on
the gutless side. What IS interesting is that the unit 500cc motors are
identical at the bottom. I reckon a post '68 ( better bottom end bearings)
single carb T100 with a low compression head would be really nice. What that
little bike wants is a soft, torquey motor with reasonably high gearing. The
ultimate motor would be a bronze or iron head pre-unit 500...very smooth and
softly tuned ...but sadly they are like rocking horse shit these
days!

Just got back off my holiday (BSAOC rally

I also came back to find that I am being
offered the opportunity to buy?the Starfire/3ta that I recently
posted pictures of.? This probably means that the TY250, Morini and
the Bantam will be up for sale very shortly - selling the W650 is not an
option, of course - the fact it is totally reliable and beautiful is
what enables me to indulge my more foolish bike buying
urges!
?
Saw a W650 parked up just before the
Dartford tunnel on our return journey.? I think it was a
maroon/cream one but didn't get close as we were just passing.?
Gorgeous sunshine as we crossed the channel (Dunkirk-Dover) but
torrential rain by the time we got home.? We were fairly lucky with
the weather, only a couple of days when it rained (and we were in a
cabin, not a tent - hooray!) - and there were lots of interesting bikes
at the rally too.? Also a three-wheeler BSA car and a couple of
folding BSA bicycles......Jon's mum has just bought me a folding
BSA bicycle for ?8 so I was quite interested to see some
others.
