Re: Rear tire width question
?
They are not the same size. The rear tyre is 30
mm wider.
?
There are two issues here. The height issue is
to do with handling, the width issue to do with matching radii. The 120/90 is
slightly taller than the 130, which is good for high speed stability and
secure handling. The 120 is also not as wide as the 'picked for fashion looks'
130 and so is nearer to the 100 front. The front is also a 90 profile so has a
similar curve to the 120/90. The 80's are a shallower side to side
radius.
?
Jon
?
Actually Jon is better at sorting this, as he did
post.

Subject: [W650riders] Re: Rear tire
width question
Thanks for that info Dennis. Stock 130/80 sidewall height =
104mm 100/90 sidewall height = 90mm So with a 14mm sidewall height
difference x 2 as there are two sidewalls in the diameter) the rear has
28mm or one inch taller overall sidewall height than the front tire. So
the stock 100/90 19 and the stock 130/80 18 fully assembled and inflated
are actually the same size. If this is true then why go to a 120/90 rear
and upset the balance?

Well, I'm 12.5-13 stone and 5ft 10in. The bike has the original AC03

be unavailable at the moment, according to my local dealer. The shimmy problem is the same with both new avon and worn rear ac04 tyre. I've also tried various rear shock adjustments but have had no

The cough is most likely a symptom of the W's lean-or-rich mix (depending on

Re: Couple of newbie questions.
You have to pick your speeds...I usually end up sitting on a glove, trying to sort out some issue with a flapping strap or whatever, and watching the bars like a hawk as I wait for the shimmy to start!
My front Avon solved the problem initially but it came back eventually. It's just a thing they do...like the old Commando's used to....
toggle quoted message

Jon, that sounds exactly like my shimmy. It is only noticeable when you take your hands off the bars and goes away when you put them back on. If however you continue with the 'no hands' style of riding, it gets a lot worse. I've just had an avon roadrider put on the back wheel and have now arranged for the matching front to be fitted next, so we'll see how we get on with 2 new tyres. I know there is usually no need to ride no hands, but there are times when you have to use just one and I would like to have the confidence that the bike won't throw a wobbly.
Thanks,
Pete
--- In W650riders@..., "Jonhaddock@..." <jonhaddock@...> wrote:
The shimmy is common to many bikes and is cured by a small amount of
friction. The best place to find it is in the front tyre contact patch...The
stock front wears badly and the contact patch almost shrinks to nothing. A
decent single compound ( i.e. not a stock Accolade) tyre transforms the bike
and pretty much sorts the shimmy. I used an Avon Venom .
You should only notice the shimmy if you take your hands off and just a
light touch restores equilibrium.
If it still persists enough to annoy, buy a steering damper...That shimmy is
what they are built for!

prices about the same as sat access these days, only difference being $300

a better start up deal with cable.

With the radio upload link they have these days, upload
speeds are around 128.

Meanwhile, I have done some research, and Hughesnet, the
biggest sat biz, is like dealing with your worst nightmare cable company. The
other sat option is BlueSky, I can't find out much about them, but they offer
a slower service around 500kbps for a little less money. Now I'm reconsidering
digging that 90ft trench out to the utility pole and doing cable, a whopping

Too far out to get DSL. I could get cable, but that

much per month. I have satellite tv and love it.
