Locked Texas Wildfire Ham News 3
Good morning, Just wanted to let you know that Texas RACES is active during the historic wildlife events. I have looked for information about Oklahoma groups and haven't found any yet. This is from the official state website. I personally haven't been too active due to spin off from CV exposure health issues. I hope to start work on one of my base station antenna late this afternoon. I have been doing some work also on my 6M/FM base antenna also. I might have it fixed. 73's Chuck Digby --KB0TOT " Larrys-List | FYI Topics Date State of Texas>>>Wildfire KB0TOT Chuck Feb 29 Thursday, February 29, 2024 Texas Division of Emergency Management State Situation Report 24-0001 Wildfire Season 2024 Date February 29, 2024/10:00am Operational Period 8:00 AM February 28 to 8:00 AM February 29,2024 #1 TDEM Communications Coordination Group (CCG): [?]Amateur Radio operators (RACES/ARES) are supporting the Panhandle with the wildfire situation. Locked Radio Club Meeting - New Business tabled at December meeting, missed at January meeting. 2
I could not make the January meeting because of some health problems that have caused some lingering issues. We've been fighting insurance which does not want to pay for Diagnostic procedures. So an actual diagnosis is unknown at this time. Insurance approved 3 procedures, 1 is scheduled for 2/15 at Westley a second 2/19 at Rock Regional Hospital and the 3rd has not been scheduled as it was only approved yesterday. Should the diagnosis point to a surgical procedure I refuse to have it done in Wichita but Instead will return to Detroit where top surgeons in the field reside at William Beaumont Medical center or Henry Ford Hospital. I see from other postings I am not the only member having medical issues. I wish everyone health and happiness... 2023 was not a good year, but I have high hopes for 2024. Especially since minutes ago Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, meaning an early spring. My parents grew up only 40-50 miles from Punxsutawney and during the depression winters there was a big dang deal... Prior to the closing of RADIO SHACK in DERBY (RIP- now a cigar shop! and flooring outlet) Mark asked me if I would host his SIDEWALK SALE in my pasture 2 miles down the road.. My issue was even though my house has 2 bathrooms, I just can't let 200 strangers into my home-- especially with all the gold, jewels, drugs, guns and loose women laying about.. Besides the pasture has cow pies that city slickers do not know how to avoid stepping in them. Mark has had the RADIO SHACK SIDEWALK SALE for 20 years... THIS IS THE PRIME TIME FOR W?VFW TO STEP-UP... Time to take over this 20 year annual event. I do not want to see it go to another club, The "SIDEWALK SALE" is always the Saturday before Field Days.. June 15th.. This could be a money maker for us!!!...Since it's a Saturday Morning our post parking lot will be empty. Hams even come up from OKLAHOMA to Derby, I don't think it's impossible to fill the parking lot with flea market trunk sales... I am not going to do this by myself... I may be down 2-3 months if surgery is required. The club can sell the following.... Coffee, soda - water breakfast and lunch (hot dogs) 1st parking space is free additional spaces are $10... 50/50 raffle membership to the club.... if a club member 2nd flea market space is 50% off, likewise food and drink.. raffle a radio, HT, antenna, blah blah... We could sell inside tables in the back area of the post... in case someone wants a roof for protection and a chair to sit in.. We can reserve the parking lot. and advertise in QST and other groups (Facebook -520 crew, Ham Radio 2.0) but we need to commit ASAP.. I feel 5 people in the committee would cover it all and we would have backup should someone get shot.. A decision needs to be made by the next meeting February 27th.... discussion can follow this thread. if you'd like to comment pro or con. It's your club too..

Locked W?VFW Radio Room 3
Hi gang. It's wednesday night 7pm local.. I usually play cards at the VFW on Wednesday's. Again there were an odd number of players, so I gave my seat to one of the gals. Since it's mostly women and only 3 men play.. The on tap beer is down.. They had only bottles... I opened up the radio room and decided to check the equipment. Last week I straightened out TEAM VIEWER and could connect from home. This week I fecided to look into these 3 programs WSJT-XFLDIGIHAM RADIO DELUXE Well I got on WSJT-X and found the configuration between the ICOM 718 and the computer was all screwed up. I got that straightened out and I have just made 3 FT8 contacts on 20 meters running 29 watts.. One in Canada... So the ICOM718, Signalink and Computer is now working in WSJT-X.. be sure however to add your call toFILES>SETTINGS> REPORTING> OP CALLSo when WSJT-X logs the contact the entry shows who the operator of W0VFW was. Also be sure to run NISTIME to syncronize our computer to the time standard so no FT8 messages are lost. It's interesting that 20 meters is open past dark.. some signals are 10 over S9.. I switched to FLDIGI and set up the rig interface and was copying the ARRL CW propagation bulletin from W1AW almost perfectly....Here is an excerpt: THEREFORE, MUF VALUES WILL BEGIN TO SLOWLY DECLINE. <BT> AS LONG AS THE CORONAL HOLE REMAINS STABLE AND PERSISTS IN THE SOLAR DISK AFTER PASSING THROUGH THE CENTRAL MERIDIAN, DISTURBANCES WILL BECOME MORE FREQUENT. Johnson was joined in introducing the legislation by Rep. Joe Courtney of Connecticut: Congressman Bill Johnson released the following statement after introducing H.R. 4006, the Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act, to govern private land use restrictions on amateur radio. Johnson was joined in introducing the legislation by Rep. Joe Courtney of Connecticut: Antennas are essential for all wireless communication, whether TV broadcasts, wireless internet, Wi-Fi, or amateur radio. Existing federal law provides for the installation of TV broadcast and wireless internet antennas and satellite dishes at private homes, but amateur radio antennas are not included in the statute as currently written. This bill would correct that. “I reintroduced the Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act to remove barriers to disaster and emergency communications and training, and to promote education in STEM subjects related to critically needed wireless technology,” Bill Johnson said. “Passage of this bill will promote developing and sustaining our nation’s wireless future and facilitate and encourage amateur radio operations as a public benefit.” “As their actions during recent natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy proved, amateur radio operators in Connecticut can be a critical component of disaster response and emergency management. It is in our communities’ best interest that we give them the capabilities to operate at the highest level, and with the re-introduction of this bill, we’ve taken a strong step in that direction,” said Rep. Courtney (CT-02). Rick Roderick, K5UR, President of The American Radio Relay League, the National Association For Amateur Radio, extended on behalf of the ARRL, its Members, and America’s Amateur Radio community their thanks and appreciation for the leadership of Congressman Johnson in his tireless efforts to support and protect the rights of all Amateur Radio Operators and to further STEM education and the advancement of American expertise in wireless technology.
