Re: April post meeting comments-
Hi Larry... I do hope that ur getting better from all your ailments. I did miss your voice on the conference call last night.?
Question... it has always been my desire to talk to my ham buddies back home in Sioux City and surrounding area. Most are on 2 meters and some on HF. With Allstar, will that help me accomplish this? Don WB0QFR?

April post meeting comments-
I am recovering from Shingles on my face and Bell's Palsey, so speaking is not my forte. Nor is swallowing, drinking, or blinking. The entire left side of my face is kaput!!.. Attempting Re-boot daily.. 90% of the people who get Bell's Palsy recover.
I muted myself at the meeting because of feed back on my telephone. I have resent invoices, and attempted to text Pat KC?ZRY during the meeting to inpput I was actually.
I Built 4 ALLSTAR HOT SPOTS today.. They are available for sale. There operate identically to the one on W?VFW- VHF repeater. The beauty of the ALLSTAR Links, is that they have CD quality Full Duplex audio. quite an advancement over ECHOLINK or ILRP.. which by the way is incorporated into ALLSTAR.
By building- buying or owning your own ALLSTAR link, it enables you to connect to 14,000 plus other nodes ll over the world. This lends itself to our mission, helping Veterans, Military ad their Families.
W?VFW VHF repeater is normally linked to th eBlind Hams Talk Group Allstar #50631. There are nets on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays both Morning and evening. It is not unusual to hear callsigns from foreign countries or other states. A great place to listen and learn.?
By buying your own ALLSTAR HOT SPOT you can control it and it's many options. To access a Talk Group -ROOM- Reflector or Node.. All basically the same thing.. It is as simple as dialing a phone. and we all know how to do that. Each room has a Node Number- it's phone number- It can be just a hot spot, or a club repeater, or an entire network.. Some Nodes, are defined geographically, like- South Carolina, or a city, like Hollywood, or a country like England. Some nodes are specialities- Blind Hams Talk Group, or model Rail Roaders...
Once the VFW opens up again, I may have technical meetings regarding ALLSTAR, as this opens up a wonderful facit of Amateur Radio we all can benefit from.
If anyone is interested in ALLSTAR please email me... I will say digesting the internet postings can be somewhat daunting.

Mike I am confused.. Also if someone starts talking before th ecourtesy beep, the repeater timer will continue to run, and time out that person instead of resetting the 3 minute talk timer.
A "roger beep" (a carryover from CB not ham radio) is generated by the user's radio. It is to indicate the person talking has ended his transmission. CB does not have any timers.
The W?VFW repeater transmits a DPL tone of 071 but receives a PL tone of 103.5... The reason for that is if they were both the same a spurious transmitter could trip the receiver. That is not our case. The second reason is I hear 2-3 repeaters on our frequency, Topeka, Ponca City and Oklahoma City. Probably because of antenna height and troposphere conditions.
Currently W?VFW is connected to Blind Hams Talk Group. there is light activity, but tonight there will be a net at 8PM tonight..

A day of Fusion...145.5625 Mhz on 4/25/2020
?
After the YAESU FUSION webinar last week many have asked about how we can start to promote and use 145.5625 Mhz SIMPLEX to make contacts on the frequency. So....what are you doing next Saturday?
Next weekend, Saturday April 25th, all day let us use 145.5625 Mhz and make/log contacts. Use simplex or WiRES-X but make sure that it is on 145.5625 Mhz (in this case repeaters would be out for usage). If you use Group Monitor (GM) make sure to use DG-ID 00.
Now to make it fun let us talk about how we can confirm exchanges with each other (and this is really good practice for DP-ID registraiton). Practice the exchange by making contact with others and exchanging your DP-ID with their DP-ID and mark the time.
Do not underestimate the distance that simplex can reach as well as a digital signal on simplex. Let us work to establish this as the Fusion frequency.
This fits into band plans worldwide as either a DV frequency or experimental sections. Go into the menu and set the STEP to 6.25KHz.

Welcome to the group W2PAN- 1st. have to apologize as my mailbox had over 120 emails because of my vacationing this past week in a secret bunker advising our local medical teams. A new members 1st post must be approved to prevent drive by sniping. 2nd. A bit has happened since you last were involved with W?VFW and our repeaters. our 440 machine 443.325 PL162.2 is now on K-Link (Kansas Link) .? I believe there are bout 12-18 repeaters linked 24x7 to give us statewide coverage. It is expressly dedicated to SKYWARN and they have priority at any time weather issues are present anywhere in the state. Now for our VHF repeater 145.27 PL103.5. -That repeater was dormant for 2-3-4 years, hardly used. Since I retired and was disappointed in it's operation, I decided to take over it's care. It is still a work in progress because There are a number of nets this weekend and I need to pull the repeater one more time and make a mod to the controller board and change the interface cable to reflect that mod. It will eliminate the occasional squelch tail noise we have when someone in the neighborhood turns on what we believe is a plasma TV. Before the cootie invasion, the noise would run for an hour at 7am and 5pm.. watching the news we surmised. Now that the cooties took over, everyone is home and it's on for hours.
Now since I took over the Repeater we spent hours working on the repeater, duplexer, the networking at the VFW and the computer that runs it all.? We even hired an Australian Girl -"Shelia" to identify the repeater every 10 minutes. ? We have placed the repeater on "The ALLSTAR network" which is a leap forward over Echolink. It uses CD quality full Duplex audio, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP). Unlike DMR which is a commercial Digital protocol, ALLSTAR can be adapted to AM- FM- SSB- DMR- D-star - P25- Fusion as it's just plain audio when it's on the internet. It's up to you to to decide how to access ALLSTAR. You can use a radio, a computer, a smart phone or even a landline and dial up a 800 number. There are 14000+ nones and a node can be a hotspot or a repeater or a entire state network. In theory, we could link all 14,000+ nodes together..
But we are straying from the W?VFW repeater... when we got ALLSTAR going I had it linked to a blind buddies repeater in Rochester, NY - a city about the size of Wichita. But we had problems and I broke the connection. We have a number of Visually inconvenienced Hams so we started to connect to the BLIND HAMS TALK GROUP ALLSTAR #50631.. They have nets on various days. So it's possible to listen to hams from all over the USA, Canada, I have heard, France, Germany and Switzerland plus New Zealand..
So you know the only thing I can play is the JukeBox. But we have had Christian prayer nets, Blind Hams, just general Ham radio and a music net, that comes from being connected to the Blind Hams Talk Group.. We hope someday to involve PTSD Veterans with their own node.... Heck with the cooties thing everyone will be PTSD- OCD- and just plain crazy.
Final thing - Since you've been away 10 years..kind of think of this as turning up the volume... 146.52 - every evening local rag chew? (also 146.42, 146.55, 146.58 to a lesser degree) Plus all the repeaters 146.94 - local new $$$ repeater - Best coverage in town but set your radio to narrow band.. or back off the mike. 443.325 - State wide? K-LINK 146.82 -? (KAN-OKLA) Kansas -OKLAHOMA Link 145.27 - Mainly North America -but World wide...Blind Hams Talk Group...

Just joined the group.? I was listening Tuesday night and you all were talking about music and Zappa.? The discussion was also about gigging and how for the past 20 years it pays $50-100 (depending on venue).
I came to a meeting about ten years ago when I first got licensed as KD0LAS.? I think I was at a BBQ with you guys on a separate occasion?? Can't remember... as that was awhile ago.
I had to renew and went ahead and got a vanity of W2PAN.,, which sparked my interest again in HAM... hence boxing up my beat-to-crap ic-726 and bought a Xiegu G90 (backorderd).? My trusty Yeasu ft-60r still works!
I remember not being able to get on your guys' repeater ten years ago, but now it's crystal clear!!!
I'm not a veteran, but my grandfather fought in WWII (Italy/France).? My father was in Korea (during the Vietnam war) as a typewriter/radio dude.? Maybe that's where I get my HAM interest from?
My buddy (my bass player)?KE0ZUU just got his Technician and took the test over at the library.? He's kicking himself in the shin for not taking the General exam now that the COVID-19 struck.? He went ahead and bought an IC-7300 and is listening.? I sure bet he'd like a remote option to grab that General... hihi
Anyway,?KE0ZUU and I listened in on Tuesday night and we both are steel drummers and love Zappa.? We've played a number of gigs around Wichita too, and know the heartache of cheap paying gigs.
Cheers & thanks for letting me join this group!

ALLSTAR - Group buy of Kits and why you'd want one.
ALLSTAR is currently activated on W?VFW 145.27 repeater. We are transceiving with Blind hams Talk Group ALLSTAR #50631. KD4DYI (Pat) servers in NYC bridge our signal into DMR, D-star and ECHOLINK. That gives up multi-mode worldwide coverage. Since linking I have heard hams in about 15 states, France, Germany, Switzerland and New Zealand. The beauty of ALLSTAR is that you can use a radio into a repeater, a radio into a hotspot, your computer, cellphone or tablet, or you can use a land line 800 number and you can then connect to over 20,000 other nodes. All Audio is CD quality, (48Kbits) and FULL DUPLEX..You can even control and use a HF rig..USING ALLSTAR is the simplest of these 21 century innovations. The most popular device to get you on the internet happens to be a $35 Raspberry PI. Then you need a dongle to convert audio to Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) I have researched these "dongles" and they can cost $35 to $295 depending to what degree you desire. Plus how much hand holding you need. I? believe I am the most educated in ALLSTAR in the club, as I got W?VFW/R VHF machine on the air? The unti I am recommending for a group buy is SHARI by N8AR... The kit (of which all surface mounted devices have been mounted and wave soldered.) has become available but in quanity 1 sales. SHARI ?is available as a simple parts kit (install 8 through-hole parts, the radio module and complete final assembly) for $55 (UHF), $60 (VHF). A fully assembled and tested SHARI is $80 (UHF), $85 (VHF) (We build your kit for you. You are still responsible for proper operation in the amateur radio service). Shipping is $8 via USPS Priority Mail. Basically the kit is placing the board in a metal box. I have emailed STEVE and he told me for the Club W?VFW if we ordered 5 minimum, he would ship for free.. The reason for the SHARI is you do not need to donate a multichannel radio to act as the hotspot. It comes with a 500mw FM radio and antenna. So.. You need a SHARI($55-60), a RASPBERRY PI ($35-55), A wallwart ($9.95) a SD card ($4.95), and internet. Then you via your HT can access 14,773 nodes... Here are links for your further investigation. I will be placing an order SUNDAY APRIL 12th. for 5 units in order to get the Free shipping. I need at least 3 others to complete the order. I will be building 2. (1 home and 1 mobile using my phone for internet access) The money can be sent to me via PAYPAL for the SHARI ($55-UHF $60-VHF) or if you have questions larmac17@... as it complies with 6ft separation.

Re: KD0WPG is there anyone who can help me get on repeaters
1. First be sure the channel you plan to use is not in use.
2. Now go to frequency mode and type in the frequency you want, no decimals needed. Frequency must be 6 digits.
3. Hit menu and 27, then menu. When it says memory channel put in the channel you want to store it in, then hit menu and listen for “Receiving memory.” Wait until you hear the blip musical tone before moving on.
4. Next we put in the tone. Hit menu and 13. When it announces the type of tone you type in the code and hit enter. You should hear confirm. Wait again until you hear the blip.
5. Now for the transmitting side. Type in the transmit frequency, even if it is the same. Then hit menu, 27 and do like you did above, putting in the same memory channel. You should hear “transmitting memory” if you got it right. Again wait for the blip sound.
After you complete the steps go back to channel mode and see if you got it in there.?
If I may help in any other way please get in touch.
