1. First be sure the channel you plan to use is not in use.
2. Now go to frequency mode and type in the frequency you want, no decimals needed. Frequency must be 6 digits.
3. Hit menu and 27, then menu. When it says memory channel put in the channel you want to store it in, then hit menu and listen for “Receiving memory.” Wait until you hear the blip musical tone before moving on.
4. Next we put in the tone. Hit menu and 13. When it announces the type of tone you type in the code and hit enter. You should hear confirm. Wait again until you hear the blip.
5. Now for the transmitting side. Type in the transmit frequency, even if it is the same. Then hit menu, 27 and do like you did above, putting in the same memory channel. You should hear “transmitting memory” if you got it right. Again wait for the blip sound.
After you complete the steps go back to channel mode and see if you got it in there.?
If I may help in any other way please get in touch.

? What time this afternoon works best for you?? And is that?146.520?simplex??
Mike ?kd0wpg Have been thinking about your issues Mike and decided to post my thoughts and offer to help. I do not use Chirp to program mine. I do them manually and they work well.
First, since you have been changing settings and stuff I would suggest a factory reset. That way you clear away any issues created by previous actions.
Then I would program them manually. Not real hard actually and I am quite willing to talk you through the process. We can meet up on 146.520 and go through the process if you like. I work 2nd shift, so a Saturday or Sunday afternoon time would be best for me. We can get you up and running on the repeaters.?
And if you are just too frustrated to mess with it anymore I can simply do it for you. You can bring me the radios and I will program according to your wishes.?
Happy Hamming Ke0tga Patricia ? I'm not ignoring you, stuff came up.? There was a net last night and Patrica did have someone with no audio trying to get in. I don't know if that was you.
You claim they work simplex just fine??
Have you digested this? This is the "authority" Read all about it...
Specifically look for a "Factory reset procedure" .. Give that a try then retry just 1-2 channels..
Contact me "off groups.io... maybe we can get together this up coming week if you don't have the "2020 cooties"

Mike I am confused.. The only beep W?VFW does? is a courtesy beep at the end of a transmission that is a delay between dropping of the carrier and 1 to 1.5 seconds then Beep then about 2 seconds later the repeater carrier drops. It is generated by the repeater. ?It's purpose is to have all operators standby till the beep to allow others to enter the conversation, hence a courtesy beep. Also if someone starts talking before th ecourtesy beep, the repeater timer will continue to run, and time out that person instead of resetting the 3 minute talk timer.
A "roger beep" (a carryover from CB not ham radio) is generated by the user's radio. It is to indicate the person talking has ended his transmission. CB does not have any timers.
The W?VFW repeater transmits a DPL tone of 071 but receives a PL tone of 103.5... The reason for that is if they were both the same a spurious transmitter could trip the receiver. That is not our case. The second reason is I hear 2-3 repeaters on our frequency, Topeka, Ponca City and Oklahoma City. Probably because of antenna height and troposphere conditions.
Currently W?VFW is connected to Blind Hams Talk Group. there is light activity, but tonight there will be a net at 8PM tonight..

Can you send me a copy of your chirp programming file..

I bought a little frequency counter that Larry showed me, non of the radios are right on frequency but within 100khz.the frequency seems to be close enough that it keys up the repeater, just no voice.
