Happy New Year all,

I can't get Winlink/Vara FM to work on my mobile rig.? I've been through the Digirig setup guide now 3 times.? I far as I can see everything is set up as recommended, but the Vara FM app is both deaf and dumb - The Vara FM Audio input display is not registering any input, though I have noticed that with the USB unplugged the display shows -96 db, and with the USB plugged in it's showing -75db, but whether I move the speaker control up/down via the? Win11 PC or using the pot on the rig (yes Squelch is off) the meter display doesn't budge,? In addition when I start a Vara FM Winlink session, it fails to trigger xmit on the rig.? Note also that the Digirig supplied interface cable is plugged into the back of the control head.

I don't think? you have the radio connected at all....??

Pic number 2 shows a "Microphone" input. ? You should be showing the DigiRig as both the receive and transmit connection, if you are connecting through the 6-pin mini-DIN data port. ? The mic jack or speaker on either the radio or the computer should have nothing to do with this hookup. ? If you haven't renamed the device in Windows, you will need to locate the Windows audio controls for both Record (Receive) and Play (Transmit) for "USB Audio Device".??

Both connections, along with PTT? should be going into the 6-pin mini-DIN "DATA" port on the radio. ? DigiRig makes two cables to connect to the 6-pin DIN port for all three functions.???

I've used both VARA-HF and VARA-FM on dozens of radios, bothj HF and FM with the 6-pin Mini-DIN data port with no problems.?

To achieve the highest data rates VARA-FM is capable of, you need to set the radio DIN port's transmit data rate to "9600 baud" in a menu option in the radio.? This bypasses the mic amp in the radio for a greater transmit audio bandwidth required for the high data rates of 9600 baud packet and VARA-FM fast.??

You will also require a DigiRig-to-radio cable that connects to the DIN port's "9600 baud" pin (the radio's FM discriminator) -- rather than the "1200 baud" pin (the radio's normal squelched de-emphasized receiver audio). ? DigiRig sells both kinds of cables.? You use the "1200 baud" cable for HF/SSB data? connections.? And the "9600 baud" cable for all kinds of data modes on VHF/FM . ?? This means that for "DC-to light" all-mode rigs, you have to switch cables on the DigiRig as you move between HF/SSB and VHF/FM modes.
