Rustoleum Green Hammertone spray paint
I found a source of Rustoleum Hammertone green spray paint in a can! I will see if it available in my local store. The store is regional in the Midwest.

No, you are not missing anything. It is just that some of us like to tinker with things and experiment with ideas.

Re: tailstock end of Unimat alloy bed...
Back in the Day, Tom's Tool Store used to sell a kit with the extended ways and a cut off tail stock section. I think it was mostly extended for wood working and not metal. We sometimes forget the they offered a lot of model building and wood working accessories for the unimat, Table saw (2 versions), Wood lathe rests (2), Lathe dog, Lathe tools,Jig saw(2) Planer, Shaper etc. ?Jeff

arguably, one could accomplish a similar result using the extra-long Unimat accessory way bars and place the tailstock on the other side of the end-of-bed. -Guy- On June 30, 2023 at 8:22 PM "OldToolmaker via groups.io" <old_toolmaker@...> wrote:

Re: tailstock end of Unimat alloy bed...
I don't have, nor have I ever seen the extended way bars? from Emco, but I made a replacement set of way bars from chromed 12mm linear guide rod, and cut them down to match the original way bars for the 1st Unimat. I've got a pair of 600mm long, 12mm? linear guide rods coming. Should be here Wednesday. I'm not going to be using the full length, I don't believe, but it won't hurt me to have a bit more stock for my pile, either. I believe I'll see if I can get 12" between centers. IIRC, I used 300mm linear guide rods for the stock-sized ways. Just using extended way bars hanging out loose at the end might be OK, but I knew where a cut down bed was, more or less, and it's on it's way, too. They're maybe not as rare as I thought, but they're not in production anymore, either, so didn't want to cut another one down. Photo I took of my SL after I fit the new way bars to it, and before I cut them down I could move the ends of the bars pretty easily. For just parking the tailstock, that's probably alright, but I'd like to be able to use it, if possible. Still might not work. As Andrei noted, the 12mm way bars aren't the most rigid things in the world.? So we'll see if it's practical. And if not, I've got spiffy new way bars on the DB, as well, and it didn't cost me a great deal to figure things out.? Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Re: tailstock end of Unimat alloy bed...
Hello, Bill
I have often had thoughts of making two rectangular blocks from cast iron with two ¡°v¡± grooves to make my own extended Unimat clone. With this arrangement the bed bed length can be varied to suit at will depending upon how far apart the blocks are placed. No need to cut up a perfectly good SL. I have made several sets sets of way bars from Thomson linear precision ground and hard chrome plated. I made a special fixture for drilling the cross holes with carbide spade drills to bolt down the way bars. I will probably follow though with this as soon as I get my shop relocated and set up. In the wee hours of the night, I had an idea for an extended bed Unimat SL/DB to play with. I know some folks here have cut down an alloy bed to use the headstock end for a milling setup. I'd be interested in the rest of the bed... I want to put a set
of longer rails on the bed, with the tailstock mounted to the right of the original tailstock end, so the ends are constrained. Anyone got one they'd be willing to let go for reasonable money?

Re: tailstock end of Unimat alloy bed...
He wants $50 for a useable bed. I don't want to chop one up, but know at least one got chopped some time back to make a more compact lathe & mill set up. I was perhaps a bit grouchy about it at the time, because it took me nearly 50 years to acquire one of my own. But a guy who needs a setup like that needs it, so it isn't wasting a good machine.? And apparently they're still more common than I thought at the time, too. :) I'm a tool user,? not a tool collector. Ok, not exclusively a collector. :) Bill in OKC? William R. Re: ALERT eBay¡¯s Latest Attempt to Fleece Buyers and Sellers
I suspect ebay's changes to deposit money into your bank account relates to an underlining issue has been a tax issue from governments for sellers who are not reporting income.
I still enjoy the eBay marketplace, and would rather pay shipping then get into a tricky situation meeting someone in person, whom I don't know on FB Marketplace and having purchase a few items on Marketplace this past year, my credit card company has not been very happy. I think of eBay as a figurative box of chocolates, where you never know what you will find.... I have found some treasured items, but I remind myself it is a situation of buyer beware. Tamra |
