Is this such a dire need in the Unimat world??
I mean, it is a tiny lathe, meant to make tiny things. For big stuff, just use a bigger lathe. To me, it makes sense.?
Am I missing?something?

arguably, one could accomplish a similar result using the extra-long Unimat accessory way bars and place the tailstock on the other side of the end-of-bed.

Hello, Bill
I have often had thoughts of making two rectangular blocks from cast iron with two ¡°v¡± grooves to make my own extended Unimat clone. With this arrangement the bed bed length can be varied to suit at will depending upon how far apart the blocks are placed. No
need to cut up a perfectly good SL. I have made several sets sets of way bars from Thomson linear precision ground and hard chrome plated. I made a special fixture for drilling the cross holes with carbide spade drills to bolt down the way bars. I will probably
follow though with this as soon as I get my shop relocated and set up.
