?The worst part is, that it allows you to go through all of the motions and it looks like it worked. Then nothing. You do not know it it is just being slow or if you need to repost. Much wasted time.

Re: Problems posting again?

The Missing In Action photos was #1 reason I am glad that our group moved to Groups.io.

It was a really easy transfer and now we are past a year, and I'm glad that we did it.? The timing was not good for me from a work perspective, but our members (mostly woman) have managed just fine.?

Jeff, no photos since 2/3/19 and 2/1/19.

Yahoo is exasperating!

Re: new topic: extended x-axis way bars

Jeff- As far as I can tell Tom’s only has the standard length way bars. I need parts A2Z 2300 010, #1395 conversion kit.

Machine two square blocks that can clamp on the rods. Assemble blocks and rod on your best surface - a surface plate is ideal. That way, the holes will be aligned when drilled.

Greetings- I need to extend the x-axis way bars on my alloy Unimat to gain length between the headstock and tailstock to be able to turn 2 piece pans/pencils. Getting the right size (10mm?) drill rod and cutting off 2 lengths present no difficulties. My problem is how to ?drill the countersunk mounting bolt holes at either end so that both holes are at the same “time”, say 12 o’clock for example. I worry that using a proper drill press with wooden v-blocks as opposed to precision metal ones aligned to a fence that the holes would not align properly and therefore wouldn’t fit the mounting holes on the basic Unimat frame. I’m sure some of you real machinist out there can give me the advice I need.

Many thanks, Bill in NC

Re: Unimat 3 tool bit size

I think I got one set from Victor machinery in NYC? used to be lower Manhattan now Greenpoint brooklyn 5/16 will work on a QC post lowering the tool to the correct height

Re: Unimat 3 tool bit size

Thanks Ed. I am having a hard time finding carbide insert holders in the 1/4 inch shank size. Where do you get yours?

I posted twice yesterday asking what finish was used on the Unimat wooden box. Oil stain without top coat, shellac or Poly and neither showed up. I have also tried posting photos several times and nothing.

Re: Unimat 3 tool bit size

Unimats in general easily use 1/4" or 6mm toolbits, they fit the toolholders very well.? I use a A2Z quick change toolpost? with 1/4" tools that take a carbide insert they work well for me turning acrylic, delrin and 6061 aluminum.

Re: Unimat box finish

Mine is like new and it is just a dull stain with no gloss added.

What was used to finish the unimat wooden box, was it just a oil stain? it does not appear to have a coating on it like Shellac or Poly.

You are right, just a bit of stain and nothing else.

?That is what I have also. looks like it is just a oil stain. The electrons must be moving slow for Yahoo. I posted this yesterday at 6:59pm their time and it just showed up a short while ago ( 17 hours later). No sign of the 1st post or the last three photos that I posted days ago.

I don’t have my original box anymore, at least I don’t remember seeing it during the last move.? But that’s the way I remember mine, it had a dark brown stain with no sealer of any kind.
