Re: U90 motor suppression capacitor
Some eBay items are only available via a specific country. If you need Unimat items for example, it's worth trying eBay Germany and asking the seller if they'll ship. However these caps are very generic so I'd also try AliExpress and even local electrical wholesale places. Neil Morrison? Re: U90 motor suppression capacitor
Apologies - the Ebay code that was mentioned for whatever reason does not get me anywhere. Could either of you perhaps share the German supplier's website with a link to the specific item? Many thanks in advance,
Herman?

Re: U90 motor suppression capacitor
Many thanks all, I was speaking with a guy yesterday he said have a look in an old electric pistol drill you might find one there, but if not have a look on e-bay and he directed me to the same German site so I ordered one from there.
So will let you all know how it goes when I get it. Many thanks? Phill? |
Re: U90 motor suppression capacitor
when I looked a few years ago I couldn't find a modern version that would fit inside the motor. I had to fit one outside, and made a cover for it. The only small ones I can see now are rated at 100 V DC or less, so not useable on mains power even in the USA. I can't see another three lead version for mains use, even though I got one within the last ten years. It is the type of safety critical component that gets ever tougher specifications as time passes.

Re: U90 motor suppression capacitor
It's not critical. The motor will run okay without it but you'll mess up radio reception around you. Just get one that fits with the right number of wires and the right voltage ratings.? Re: Unimat SL1000 adjustments.
As Scott says, the head stock likely needs adjustment.

How are you aligning the head and tail stocks? You can't rely on just the locating pin. That is only approximate. On 6/20/23 3:14 PM, Scott B wrote: Hi, --

Re: Threadcutting on a Unimat 3

Ideally I'd like to be able to cut imperial threads as well but (as I understand it) this would require a 127 tooth wheel, which at MOD 1 couldn't possibly fit on a plate between the headstock and lead screw shafts.Somewhere I have a set of change wheels for inch threads on the Basic (also a 1 mm pitch lead screw) and clever things are done using 17 tooth wheels. It gets very close to the correct pitch - last time I calculated it the error was something like 0.1 mm over the length of the lathe. Unfortunately the gears are 0.75 Mod, which is not common, so sorting out further pitches is a problem. I can't find the charts at the moment. On another lathe I saw lots of pitches using a 19 tooth wheel, but that was for making metric pitches with a ?" pitch lead screw. A quick example: with a 1 mm pitch screw (25.4 tpi) using a drive of 17:18 gives a pitch of 23.988888 tpi - near enough for 24 tpi, certainly for a short length of engagement. Playing with the numbers should yield other inch pitches. Allowing for a compound gear somewhere in the drive should make many more pitches available. The game is to find lots of pitches that only require a limited number of wheels. |
