Re: ALERT eBay¡¯s Latest Attempt to Fleece Buyers and Sellers

All human enterprises seem to have some "bad apples."? And in the case of eBay, I'm sure many have seen inaccurate listings merely because the seller didn't know anything about the subject matter (such as model railroad engines)."? I've been burned once by a deliberate scammer.? A couple of times something innocently not as described, a couple of times something badly packed.? And even a couple of times where a dishonest buyer scammed me (and I certainly DO block them.)? I have dealt with over 4,000 other eBayers, have almost 5,000 feedbacks (buyers and sellers) which means something north of 5,000 transactions since some don't bother to leave feedback.? I would consider the percentage of malfeasance, at least in my case, as an exceptionally low percentage.? In fact, I find it amazing how well eBay works since eBay is wide open to everybody with a vast range of skills, or lack thereof, and wildly different levels of business acumen, or lack thereof.

But most everybody who transacts a lot on eBay will have some anecdotal story of grief.? Just like somebody will always have a shipping grief anecdote (USPS, UPS, FED EX, take your pick).

e-Bay wasn¡¯t like that a few years back, as I was burned a couple of times by sellers that overtly lied about the goods (such as saying a tool was ¡°new¡± and then finding the seller¡¯s name carved into it).? Sent pictures to e-bay and they did nothing.? When I tried to complain to the seller, they banned me from contacting them.? Nice!

As a buyer, what I like about PayPal is that they will go to bat for me if the seller doesn't respond to an issue; PayPal's entire business model involves keeping me happy, especially by protecting my credit card info, so I will continue to use them and pay the fee. EBay's business is facilitating transactions, and yes this includes protecting credit card info; but it is not the one and only reason for their existence as it is for PayPal. It looks like eBay is trying to muscle back into the payment territory it left to PayPal when it was spun out.

Can't comment as a seller. I tend to use Facebook groups specific to whatever the sale item is and where many of the buyers are geographically close by, so we can meet in person somewhere (coffee shop), the buyer can evaluate the goods, and pay if he likes them.?
