Diferent optiions for units !!
Dear Roger, Is it possible to change in next versions the program functionality about units ? In one of the menus, we could have the possibility to choose between royal and metric units to use in our windows and station details. One example of this is the wind speed in miles per hour, an unit that I'm not used to. Thanks in advance for your attention. Best regards, Rodrigo Matias (CT1GQU)

Minor Help File Problem. 2
Hello, When I double click on Using UI-View - Teh Menus - Terminal I receive the following message:- The topic does not exist.. Contact the application vendor for an update. At the same time the Win 3.1 Help screen appears on-screen. For information I am using Windows 98. 73, Ken - G4FIP

Thanks.
Hi Roger, Thanks for the answers to my two queries. I am forwarding the chill factor answer problem to Alan. He raised the query with me. No need to send a new Help file in response to the second one. This was just part of the beta testing and I have no problems running the program. It is all working great. I even de-installed W98 to Win 3.1 and apart from a map color difference everything worked fine. I didn't mess about with the palettes as I wanted to put W98 on again quickly. Cheers. 73 - Ken

Any more bugs?
Apart from a problem with a duff link in the help file, I haven't had any bugs reported with V0.4b. I found one other slight problem in that, in WINPDDE mode, you could use the "Query All Stations" option (all tx options are supposed to be locked out in WINPDDE mode). I've also rearranged the "Load A Map" list so the description comes first, done a bit of rewording to one or two help topics, put a LICENCE.TXT option on the Help menu, and added a Europe map. Unless someone finds any other problems, I'll put V0.5b together this weekend, and that will be the first public release. It will be time limited to the end of May, and it will still carry the restriction in LICENCE.TXT that it cannot be put on any internet sites. -- Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@... Weather Bulletins 2
Can UI-View be configured in such a way that in the event of the weather data timing out, it will revert to sending just a home station location report? Regards - Alan

Latest News!
The problem with the copyright of the sample UK maps included with the program has been sorted out, and I have got permission from both Attica and the Ordnance Survey to use them. I have now put together V0.6b. It has a few changes compared to V0.5b (see below) and it acknowledges the OS. It is available for the next couple of days from:- http://www.peaksys.demon.co.uk/uiview/ui06bsfx.exe Please do not publicise this link. It is there only for the use of people who already subscribe to this list. I still want the distribution of the beta version to be by means other than internet web sites. The full history.txt is available from:- http://www.peaksys.demon.co.uk/uiview/history.txt but here are the changes since V0.5b:- V0.6b 1999-Mar-24 1. Distance and bearing added to Station List. 2. "Randomize grid square plot" option added to Miscellaneous setup. 3. If UI-View is configured to send WX beacons, but the WX information is out of date, then it will instead send the station beacon (if the required information has been input). -- Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@... Support for UI-View?
UI-View has run for over 2 weeks at my QTH, with no notable bugs, its proving to be an excellent package. Full marks to Roger (G4IDE), once again! To keep Roger enthusiasm going, lets start to see ideas for addons, hardware & software support for GPS & WX node, maybe other ideas not yet thought of? Again this could be an unbeatable "British" software package, but it needs your support!! Steve, G1KQH, Sysop @ GB7RUG --------------------------

Reporting Problems
I've just added the following to the Support section of the help:- Reporting Problems ------------------ Because UI-View has five operation modes (WinPack DDE, TNC in terminal mode, TNC in KISS mode, BPQ and AGWPE) it is important, when reporting problems, to say what mode you are using. If you are having problems with UI-View not recognising beacons, it is very helpful if you include a sample of monitored data. You can do this by opening the Terminal window, marking a sample of data by dragging the mouse, pressing Ctrl+C to copy it to the clipboard, and then pasting it into your message. -- Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@... Unproto set to UIVIEW? 4
At the moment I'm not going to join in any bulletin discussion of UI- View on the packet network, because I think it's only a matter of time before the usual wreckers get at the topic. However, I have been keeping an eye on the comments being made. The idea that has been suggested of setting the unproto address to UI- View is potentially a good one, because I realised some time ago that there was a problem of telling who was running the program and who was just putting out compatible beacons. The one slight problem is that an unproto address of UIVIEW isn't APRS compatible. That is, of course, only a problem for APRS users! UI-View will accept beacons sent to any address, because it looks at the structure of the frame, not the address. I've always thought that APRS has got it wrong, at least as far as usage in the UK is concerned, by recognising only a few unproto addresses. However, I thought it was worth mentioning it, before some APRS users pointed it out. Someone suggested using an unproto address of APRS - I would definitely not recommend that, because UI-View is not compatible with most of what APRS does, and should not be regarded as an APRS program. One thing that has occurred to me is that using different unproto addresses could be used as a filter between different groups of UI-View users sharing the same frequency. Perhaps it's looking too far ahead, but I will make it possible, in the next update, to exclude by unproto address besides excluding by callsign. -- Roger Barker, G4IDE roger@... Connection via WINPDDE ? 3
Yesterday I installed the software, and at first tried using the WINPDDE option in the "host mode" settings. Unfortunatly there seemed to be no response via WINPACK 6.4 (Winpack was running, but not connected)T I then tried setting "None", closed Winpack and all started to work OK ? Is there something I have not done ? I also have a problem setting UNPROTO in my TNC to CQ,Relay,Wide (Wrong syntax, does not like the comma) The only way to enter this is:- UNPROTO CQ Via Relay,Wide Will this work ? At present I can only see three local stations, which are in direct range of my station. The TNC is a Kantronics KPC2, with direct connect to PC running Winpack.Operating system Win98. Regards G8XLH General Comment for Roger"It looks a fine program, I hope it continues, and may restore some real-time QSO's to packet users. It would be usefull if the stations running UIVIEW also included some real-time information in the Station Info screen like....Monitoring 70.200,144.300 beaming north etc.......Then it could be used as an indication of where real-time voice traffic can be exchanged, or help with DXing, but for distances not worthy of posting on the DX Cluster. I guess some form of Input form would help eg Whats your BBS,E-Mail,Where do you listen...What do you think ?"

Tracker not showing 3
I've been having some problems, trouble is there has been no one else around to test it with! A local has just appeared using APRS..I cant get an ack back from him when sending a message, but that may be due to incompatibilities between the two systems? The problem is, my tracker isn't appearing on the map. I can see the packets appearing in the monitor screen at the bottom of the display. Looking in the terminal window the format from my tracker is: 10:11:32R G3XVL-9>CQ,RELAY,WIDE <UI Len=68>: $GPGGA,091644,5202.9506,N,00108.9689,E,1,08,1.3,83.2,M,47.0,M,,*74 I'm also sending $GPRMC for height but I wouldn't of thought this would matter even though UI View doesn't use it. Tracker displays fine when I use WINAPRS. I tried turning the logging on but although G3XVL and M1ADT are showing in the log, there is no sign of G3XVL-9 Home station is a G0BSX TNC, running KISS mode, any ideas/ help appreciated Cheers Chris chris@...

Digest Number 10 3
Hi All, No problem here running the proggy. Apologies if anything has been mentioned before, I take the 5th amendment as a new subscriber ! South Yorks Packet User Group, Nodes and BBS's are now sending beacons in Lat/Lon format, and we request further development of the program....Please Roger ! We are all using BPQ..Kiss software on various machines and we are hoping it could become a usefull development tool i.e. if you know where the users are, you can plan ! I appreciate the progam may be in its early development stages, and therefore needs some tinkering, but the group fully supports Roger's latest enterprise. Thought's for the moment: 1. Can we have the station list in time order or a choice ? 2. On Win 3.11 the Window does not display 2 lines... I know, but the other machine has just gone down, and it is the old font problem :-) 3. A standardised digi sytem... I know that others are trying over Packet..perhaps the Users will win...but Roger knows the limitations ! 4. The maps are good, and I expect that is all we can expect, as a continuos zoom is not possible without the CD being in the drive, without making them toooo large. (?) 5. Educate the User's who are frightened in case you or I give them a visit...most don't even know where they are! :-) If this has all been said before, then my apologies, but perhaps it needs to be said. Well Done Roger...keep it coming...we like it ! 73 John M0ADS M0ADS@... M0ADS@... Packet M0ADS@GB7MRU.#19.GBR.EU

Software reports
Firstly, thanks to Roger for such a superb program. I for one hope it continues after the beta stage and yes, I'd be prepared to pay for it. Now, a couple of suggestions/observations. 1) Move or remove the "exit" option on the top bar. Traditionally the rightmost option is always "help" and I've already closed it down by mistake a couple of times! 2) Possible minor bug report - Options/Announce Stations. When first going into this option the tick doesn't show as to what is selected until the mouse is moved further into the box. 3) There is no number 3. 4) Would it be possible to set the size of the fonts for the displayed callsigns. I'm running a map covering a good few miles and a cluster of stations in the same town are pretty much unreadable. 5) Is there any way the map can be zoomed? Once again, thanks Roger!
