This message is sent to all new members, and to all members every now and then. It has been revised as bounce reports have changed a bit. Any of us could experience no longer receiving email from the UI-View support list. You might want to print this message and review it if you stop receiving messages from the UI-View list. If you stop receiving messages from the UI-View list, suspect that either... 1) this or some other Yahoo group that you are a member of is sending email which some spamblocker system regard as spam or junk mail (quite a lot of these reports since summer 2009). 2) it may be that your email account has filled up with unread messages or that the account on your mail server has ran out of storage space. Read or delete the old messages on your mail server. 3) Some MSN or Hotmail accounts, and others such as arrl.net, qsl.net which are used as a forwarding address from time to time cannot forward to your primary address. When this hapens, the Yahoo group receives an error message with something like "impossible to relay to xxx" and you are then in the "bounced" list. There are increasing numbers of bounces from some service providers about messages which are blocked by them for policy reasons. 4) You or your email provider have set up a challenge-and-response system for those sending e-mail to you. The moderators will not send replies to such challenges. You should select another address for your list membership(s). Sorry, but we cannot investigate every one of these blockings. Please be aware that if you haven't received list messages for some days, and reactivation requests are not reaching you, or not answered by you, your account at the UI-View list may be deleted. It may deleted if several bounces occur in less than a week or two. It will also be deleted if the bounce report says that your address is invalid, discontinued, or unknown. Be aware that the bounce can relate to messages from other lists than the UI-View list if you are a member of other Yahoo groups. If your membership is deleted, you will not be able to log into the Yahoo group. If you try and send email to the group, it will be rejected. However, you can subscribe again with a valid and working email account by sending an empty email to ui-view-subscribe@.... If you are away for some time, you might want to set your account to temporarily receive only special messages or even no email at all, but we recommend that still receive special messages. You can log into the Yahoo group when you return and change it back to daily digest or normal email. File - Posting guidelines
The UI-View Group is very active. Most already do so, but here are some some guidelines to follow. 1. Civility... this is practiced well by our members! 2. Sign your messages with your name and callsign. 3. Only post messages and responses that are relevant to UI-View. 4. Use plain text for messages sent to the UI-View support list. When you address some 5000 recipients, you cannot know what their email readers do with HTML formatted messages. Some will experience unreadability. 5. IMPORTANT: When replying to a posting (message), kindly delete all unnecessary text including the trailing text. Only leave the poster's name, callsign and the time stamp, and the text from the prior message about which you are commenting, and then trim the rest. When viewing messages in the Yahoo web based interface, the command [Up Thread] at the top of the message can be used, and many email clients can group messages by thread also. Some members have slow connections or pay for bandwidth. Brevity can often also improve the clarity of your message. Do not top post... i.e. do not type your reply above the quoted text. 6. When replying to a post, please decide if your comment should go to the entire group of about 5000 or directly to the author. Please think before replying to the group... replies like "I sure do agree with that" do not add much to the group. Send thoughts like those directly to the poster please. 7. Postings of sale or swapping of items are not wanted. 8. New members are all moderated for a number of postings. If the messages follow the guidelines, they are approved and the member is changed to un-moderated status. This is a partially moderated list, i.e., only the user's first messages are moderated, but all messages are monitored after posting. If an un-moderated posting is found by the moderators to have a problem, then the poster is changed to moderated status and in most cases also contacted directly to resolve whatever has caused the problem. Actions are taken against those that chronically violate the rules. The reason for this form of moderation is to block spammers from the list and it is working well. 9. Do not add disclaimers to your posts that (1) restrict the ability of other members to use the information you post, (2) claim a copyright to your post, or (3) to claim any type of "rights" as a consequence of another member replying to your post either directly to you or to the group. 10. Do not use anti-spam tools like challenge/response; the moderators will not respond, and since messages to you then will bounce, you most probably will be removed as a user of the group.

Not working
8
I earlier this month replaced my i-gate computer with a newer one. I thought I had all the settings right, but guess not. I can see all the inet traffic coming in, and I can see all the rf traffic around here, but none of the rf traffic makes it out from here into the inet. It all come in but doesn't go out in other words as far as the inet goes. Is there a setting I am missing here? Using win xp for operating system, on an IBM r51 thinkpad. Using the wireless connection to the router for inet connection. Suggestions? 73 Mike - N7ZEF

Howdy; I installed Precision Mapping and Streets v9 per directions listed by WA8LMF. All went well until I needed to use the "RegisterMyApp" link mentioned and all I get is an "HTTP Error 503.The service is unavailable. Tried directly, same response. Any links that may go to Undertow Software do the same. Did Undertow suddenly go away? Is there a fix to get around this? Suggestions? Thanks 73 Mike - N7ZEF

Not seeing Internet tracking
5
Howdy; I am not seeing any internet traffic like what is created when using APRSdroid. I have seen it before, but suddenly it has stopped. Wondered why I stopped seeing my trackers, ad checked to verify operation. Stations do appear on aprs.fi, and on another device using APRSdroid. But nothing at all on Ui-View. If I use the RF approach, it does work. I know it is there because I see on my phone, but not on Ui-view. What changed? I don't think any settings were changed, so what can I check? Appreciate any suggestons. 73 Mike - N7ZEF

Telemetry data flooding my message window
10
For some period of time I have watched a rising number of telemetry packets being posted in my UI-View message window. Is this happening in other cities also? Since my own telemetry messages, from a fill-in digi I operate, do not appear as a message formatted packet, I believe other APRS programs may not be programmed correctly and send the telemetry data as a simple message. That would explain why they show up cluttering my UI-View message window. I'm hoping I can get an idea if this is a local issue or is occurring everywhere. The telemetry packet clutter makes APRS messaging much less convenient for all users. Mke KB7WUK Portland OR USA

New Record for Multiple Instances of UIview on 1 Computer
I run multiple UI-Webservers for 2M VHF, 30M HF, 60M HF, the ISS Digi, and a Special Events webserver for balloon launches, hamfests and other one-time events. The gateway page for all these servers is on my website at <http://WA8LMF.net/map> All these pages are served by a single Acer E3-111 11.8" "netbook" PC. I like using these netbooks as 24/7 servers because the AC power draw is only about 10 watts. The 30-meter HF page is served directly by the Windows 7-64 host on this machine. All the other pages are served by 4 VMware virtual machines running simultaneously on the same machine. The VMs all run Windows "micro-2003", an unofficial "light" version of Windows Server 2003 (essentially the server edition of Windows XP). "Micro-2003" has about half the memory and disk footprint of the standard Server 2003. The 2M VHF virtual machine is running 4 separate copies of UIview simultaneously to capture separate map views of all of Michigan, the greater Lansing, MI area, the greater Detroit MI metro area, and a high-res view of the Michigan State University campus. The Special Event server runs two copies of UIview simultaneously to provide both a regional view of the area around the event, and a close-up-view of the event venue at the same time. (For Dayton, the regional view showed about a third of the state of Ohio. the closeup view showed an area only about a mile across.) Normally, I set up the Special Event webserver for an event, and start beaconing objects for the event about two weeks before the event. I just discovered that TWO Michigan hamfests are happening on the same weekend - one on Saturday and the other on Sunday. How to show detail for both at the same time? I held my breath and added yet another instance of UIview to the Special Events VM -- not certain much more this would further load down the netbook's CPU. It worked! There are now *TEN* instances of UIview running on the single netbook - 1 on the host, 1 on the 60M VM, 1 on the ISS satgate VM, 4 on the 2M-VHF VM, and 3 on the Special Events VM. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's actually fairly easy to setup multiple instances of UIview on a single machine. For example, you might want one instance for VHF and one for HF that can run simultaneously. UIview has very low resource demands on today's PCs. A complete install occupies about 25 MB of disk space and has very low CPU loading when running. The key to running multiple instances is to do a base install in one directory ("folder"). Then copy the entire contents of the directory to one or more additional new directories. In my setups, the original directory is C:\UIview32 . The three additional copies are in C:\UIview322 , C:\UIview323 , and C:\UIview324 respectively. Then rename the main program file and the UIview32.ini configuration file in each added instance. The primary instance contains UIview32.exe and UIview32.ini (the default names). The three copies contain Uivew322.exe & UIview322.ini, UIview323.exe & UIview323.ini, and UIview324.exe. & UIview324.ini respectively. [The .INI file name must exactly match the .EXE file name.] Multiple copies of UIview can share the same "Extra Maps" directory, and multiple copies can all use the same Precision Mapping server setup. However, UIview plug-ins that exchange data via DDE (dynamic data exchange) will only communicate with the FIRST STARTED instance of UIview. This includes add-ons like UI-NWS and UI-HeightTrack and UI-PHG. You can have the Scheduler in the primary instance start up the additional instances. I use a staggered startup sequence that launches the extra instances a minute apart. I.e., "RUN +1", "RUN +2", etc. This avoids swamping the OS with too many calls for disk access and memory allocation at the same time. The UZ7HO Soundmodem (or AGWpe) soft TNC can create entirely separate virtual TNCs on the left and right channels of a stereo sound card. The two virtual TNCs can be set to different baud rates and/or modulation types if desired. For example 1200 baud for VHFon one
