Did you happen to see the E-mails where the NWS has been updating their servers?
I think on the 16th.

Subject: [UI-View] NWSGet fails to get weather products

Hello,

On the 17th of December, my NWSGet started failing to get products with a 404 not found error.

This started at 18:50 EST and has continued ever since, I suspect the NWS has "reorganized" it's website and broken NWSGet, but I'd like to know if anybody else is seeing this error as well. I'm trying to verify everyone is broken before I start trying to fix things that aren't my problem.

I know that NWSGet broke a long time ago when the NWS went exclusively to https, I have a proxy that solves that problem, which I documented here so everybody could keep running NWSGet. I'm thinking I might be able to modify that proxy to rewrite the https GET so it get's what we want. BUT, I need to know if everyone else is broken as well - otherwise, it's just me.

I hate to admit it but YAAC is looking better and better at every new breakage point in UI-View.

Thanks,

Matt K8KDR.

Re: WXBOT

Phil,

I see you showing as N1BOW-1. I initially looked at N1BOW, sorry about that.

N1BOW-1 looks to be getting into APRS-IS via both RF and internet:

Looking through the raw logs back to the 2nd and the last 14 days I see no message traffic on either RF or the internet.from N1BOW-1.

I just sent you a test msg and got an ack back. So I can only assume something on your end is preventing any outbound messages? You might try again and take a screencap of your messages screen if you don't get a response. Maybe there is a syntax, typo, or port # issue at play here.

Re: WXBOT

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the reply.

In the years that I have had UI-View, I have changed a couple of computers
that run it and I have a list of settings to make sure it is set to what it
should be.

The nearest IGATE to me is W1OEM on the north side of town and it reported
at 10:35am.

If you have any info I can use to check things out, change items or
troubleshoot, I would appreciate it.

You don't appear to be hitting any I-gates or even on APRS-IS since the
first of November:

[cid:fafca457-c5cb-40f4-baa4-d7fbe5dd0087]

You will have to either be connected to APRS-IS or in range of a properly
configured 2-way I-gate to get such responses.

WXBOT can be down or quirky a times, but seems to be working okay.

Re: PMAP Server is "dark"

No, both screens you see came from the same computer. The rest of the
desktop on that computer displays fine even as UI-View is displaying dark.

I should have sent this with my original problem report. On the left is UI-View and on the right is Precision Mapping. As you can see it's almost like the map has decided to get shaded black, which makes readability terrible.

WXBOT

Greetings, Group.

In the past, I have used UI-View to get weather reports via the Messages portion of the program.

Normally, I would go to the Mine tab under Messages, enter WXBOT in the "To" box, enter a zip code in the "Text" box, say 06357, hit Enter and get a response.

Lately, no response. Messages will keep trying until I clear the entry.

Any ideas??

I operate on 144.390 MHz here locally.

PMAP Server is "dark"

Hello,

Ui-View running pmap server v9, the maps have gone "dark" almost like
the screen has been put in night mode or something. If I load a map
outside of pmap server (a static map) this problem does not exist. If a
bring up precision mapping itself, the problem is not there. So I'm
guessing it's in the pmap server software itself, but I've tried
everything in the pmap server control panel and nothing seems to solve
it. Any help is appreciated.....

Once again, read my extensive write-up on UIview install considerations located at

<>

before installing UIview. UIview "died" over 16 years ago. Many many things
need to be updated, changed or worked-around.

Among many issues discussed is this very problem of the help system.
Starting with Win Vista, Microsoft quietly dropped the classic help-file player
HELP.EXE from Windows . They had been pushing developers to put up help
systems as compiled HTML ".CHM" files viewed in Internet Explorer. Instead of
.the traditional "HLP" files viewed with HELP.EXE. This move rendered the
help systems of thousands of older programs un-usable in the newer versions of
Windows.

It is possible to restore the old HELP.EXE player to Win 7-8.x-10. An
installer for the classic HELP.EXE player is on my website linked to the page
above.

They haven't made this program for many a year now, and it is just about impossible to find.

Before you do anything with UIivew, read this:

? ? *** Important !!! ***

Roger Barker G4IDE, the author of UIview, died abruptly of cancer in later
2004.? At his request from his deathbed, the source code for the program was
destroyed, making updates impossible.

*The main UIview program has now remained unchanged for /_OVER A DECADE_/. It
is an "orphan" frozen in time as of? 14 April 2004 during the "Windows XP era".
This is long before Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10 appeared*.

Even so, it is STILL the most fully-featured APRS client, and one of only three
that can provide fully zoomable, scrollable dynamic mapping WITHOUT an Internet
connection.? (The other two are APRSpoint <>
(discontinued due to it's dependence on Microsoft MapPoint which was
discontinued in 2013.) and YAAC (still in regular development).

Uiview can be made to work with Windows Vista and later, either 32- or 64-bits,
but /_it _//_*IS NOT*_//_a mindless? "just run SETUP and accept the defaults"?
undertaking._/

An increasing number of out-of-the-box defaults and settings are outdated.?
Fortunately, many of these can be changed _after_ the initial install.
