Before you do anything with UIivew, read this:

This is the first part of this page:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*** Important !!! ***

Roger Barker G4IDE, the author of UIview, died abruptly of cancer in later 2004.? At his request from his deathbed, the source code for the program was destroyed, making updates impossible.

*The main UIview program has now remained unchanged for /_OVER A DECADE_/. It is an "orphan" frozen in time as of? 14 April 2004 during the "Windows XP era". This is long before Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 10 appeared*.

Even so, it is STILL the most fully-featured APRS client, and one of only three that can provide fully zoomable, scrollable dynamic mapping WITHOUT an Internet connection.? (The other two are APRSpoint <> (discontinued due to it's dependence on Microsoft MapPoint which was discontinued in 2013.) and YAAC (still in regular development).

Uiview can be made to work with Windows Vista and later, either 32- or 64-bits, but /_it _//_*IS NOT*_//_a mindless? "just run SETUP and accept the defaults"? undertaking._/

An increasing number of out-of-the-box defaults and settings are outdated.? Fortunately, many of these can be changed _after_ the initial install.

Involves PM v9 so I'm not sure if registry workaround works with v8.
Precision Mapping v9 copies and ISOs still float around out there.Shame they don't support anymore, but still very usable for a variety of needs.

Thank you for that information Stephen!

Like I said - I can still use the maps in UIView; I can move them around & zoom in & out. I cannot dynamically zoom them, if that what you mean. I have to turn on alternate mouse functions and then <left Click & drag>

I guess fussing with "things" as hams naturally do, is not always a good thing!

Fall is here and hopefully an end to this nightmare is closer to an end as well.

Precision Mapping 8.0 has been "abandon-ware" for nearly a decade now! There is now no way to activate or use PMap 8.0 either stand-alone or as a component of UIview. However, UIview definitely still functions. You can use a wide variety of static (fixed-view non-zooming) maps from various sources. And Precision Mapping 9.0 can still work with UIview.

The registration server "RegisterMyApp.com" was required to activate all versions of Precision Mapping. It spit out the "magic number" required to unlock and activate Precision Mapping. This number was based on the version number of Precision Mapping, and a hash of the version/serial number of your copy of Windows & the serial number of your hard disk. I.e. it locked an installed Precision Mapping to a particular machine and hard disk.

IMPORTANT! Replacing your hard disk with a new bigger one, or replacing a conventional mechanical disk with an SSD, will "break" this activation.

Over time, as newer versions of Precision Mapping were released, activation
support for older versions were gradually discontinued.

-- In Nov 2006, Precision Mapping 8.0 was released

-- In May 2009, Precision Mapping 8.1 was released.

-- In February 2013, the last & final version 9.0 of Precision Mapping was
released, along with a new PMap Server 9.0.

-- In April 2014, Precision Mapping 9.0 was abruptly discontinued. At this
time the activation support for Ver 8.0/8.1 was discontinued. However
activation support for Ver 9.0 continued for 6 more years.

-- In March 2020, the activation server was completely shut down, orphaning
ALL versions of Precision Mapping.

IMPORTANT! Unlike earlier versions, Precision Mapping 9.0 WILL work with
UIview and the PMap Server 9.0 _WITHOUT_ being activated. However, you can't
run the stand-alone Precision Mapping 9.0. (Which DOES require the
no-longer-possible activation code.)

The MP2011PM.OCX "Active-X control" is a component of Precision Mapping 9.0. ? It is normally located in the main folder where you installed Precision Mapping.?? From you description, you don't mention Precision Mapping (the main program -- not the PMap Server plug-in for UIview.)? Have you installed Precision Mapping 9.0? a.k.a. "Precision Mapping Streets & Traveler 9.0" ? ? You MUST have Precision Mapping installed and working before the PMap Server plugin will work.

Note that the main (standalone)? Precision Mapping 9.0 program has to be activated via a website that no longer exists.? I.e. it won't work, except for a trial period of a few days. ? However the Precision Mapping database of roads and other details, and the? MP2011PM.OCX, , WILL work with UIivew WITHOUT the main program being registered and activated.

Re: Stolen Object

Lynn,
I have been looking at the raw packets from KD5BIG-1 and I have not seen any more corrupted packets. As I previously stated the band was wide open causing extremely heavy traffic. I now feel this was a one time event due to the heavy load that will most likely not occur again. It is interesting that this was the only <<UI>> packet I have ever seen this station send.
I had originally reached out to the station owner but he has never replied.

I do have one question. Why or how is all the traffic KD5BIG-1 is sending to the internet being shown in raw packets? Looking at other igates including mine I only see the id information my station sends.

Wayne
