UI-VIEW2.15b

Alan Hardiman

Hi Roger,
I was doing a Y2K test on my computer and found it changed
over OK .
In the process of doing so it also showed UI-VIEW had timed out.I had
forgotten about the timeout. It is getting very close to this timout and
wondered if you are going to upload the new software before it goes.
Alternatively will the old 2.12 overwrite the 2.15b or will a full install
of it be required as a seperate program.if the new update is not available
in time.

Cheers and Happy New Year to all for 2000.

Bye From:-

Ok roger
here is a wish list :)

it occurred to me while driving over to Rhyl today that when I crossed the welsh boarder (no one checked my passport and I had it ready) that I pulled over to the side of the road in a safe and convenient manner to enter the new callsign of GW7PAF.
could you write it into the next update that when I cross over to GW land or GM land that the program senses the change in lat/long and alters my call sign accordingly....!!!!

if you do roger then we should here from you around the year 2010 along with the up-date to do it hi hi
but seriously those who are running mobile trackers or wot ever dont forget to change your call if you stray over the border.
easy way to tell is look for the signs on the side of the road saying WELCOME TO WALES/SCOTLAND/ENGLAND
a quick look at my map tells me a couple of welsh stations have sneaked across the border and not changed there call signs.

I aint one to spout the regs at people but I thought I would bring it to light
it caught me unawares a few weeks ago when I was over in welshpool driving round like lord of the manor with my callsign at g7paf and then not realising until I was way home that I should have been GW7PAF

ho hum
on another note to anyone with a laptop and if it has usb ports on it the maplins usb to serial converter works a treat
so you can run the tnc and the GPS at the same time

I have no got my kpc3 my gpsII and the Aisin $20 GPS all hooked up and running (more like thrown together).
the only faffing about is that I have to remove the IR. port from the device manger so the entrega usb converter chooses a com port lower than 5 and not reboot the machine if I do then the IR. port is detected and installed and the entrega com port goes to ether 5 or 6

can anyone shed some light on how I can stop the Infa-Red port being detected and installed.
if I disable it the comport still goes to 5 or 6 it has to be removed ?????

I completely agree!

I sometimes want to run my weather station data into my own programs as well as
into APRS. I can do it by splitting the rs232 and tying up two ports, but
doesn't that seem silly? Here's what I'm currently working on. I have a Linux
program to monitor my Ultimeter 2000. Currently, it writes out the data it
collects to a file. I then have another which reads this file and another
skeleton html file, and it writes out a new html file that includes the weather
values. It's still pretty rough around the edges, but you should be able to see
the results here:
If it also wrote the data into a suitably formatted file for UI-View to
pick up, then it would beacon it. That's how UI-View's support for wx
station hardware works - it relies on another app to write a suitable
file at frequent intervals.

the results here:

My next step will be to make the program which collects the data into a tcpip
server. Rather than write a file, it will take requests and return data to the
client. I'll change the second program above to use this method, as well. With
this change, the data could be made available to any machine on my lan, or, for
that matter, any machine on the internet. This, to me, seems like the way we
should be designing software.

Is anyone interested in developing a client for UI-View? I have developed a
keyword "language" of sorts to encapsulate the set of data the U2000 can
provide. I think it's fairly generic and could be expanded, as well. My vision
is that we could have similar servers for all different wx station models, for
different platforms (Linux, Windows), etc, all speaking the same language.
Adding a new model or adding support for a different platform would be easy and
could be done apart from the client code.

When I have the code working as I'd like, I will make it available open-source.
If I have time, I may port it to Windows, too.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Tony - AA0SM

Another small wish for UI-View

Keith Maton

Hi Roger and all.

I have another small wish which I'd like to share.

Please would it be possible to split the message window so that internet
messages are handled in a seperate window? ie, have two available message
windows. One for port I and the other for all radio ports. The reason is
that there's so much internet message traffic that it makes it very
difficult to spot radio traffic.

Station G6IFS can be accessed by:
G7HJX-2 GX0HMP GW0TQM-9
Ahh.. that rather depends where I was parked at the time... :)))

Mind you, I have now discovered that with the TINY2 in GPS mode,
I can STILL log on using the Psion3c and THD7 and alter all the
TNC parameters withouth having to grub about with the cables
under the back seat :)

Perhaps callsign substitution isnt so useful in a mobile :)

UK site cleared nodes overlay

Roger Barker <[email protected]

I've uploaded an overlay showing all UK site cleared packet nodes to the
files area. It's nodespos.zip in the Overlays folder. It's based on
G8SFR's DCC bulletins, so it's as accurate as you can get.

(For those not in the UK - We aren't allowed to set up remote nodes
without getting a special licence and "site clearance" - which means
they've been approved by our regulatory authority. We are allowed to set
up nodes at our home locations, but there are restrictions on what
frequencies we can use for unattended operation. For any unattended
operation from home, we have to inform the authorities that we're doing
it, and provide information on close down procedures. Is it like this in
other countries??)

Re: Routes

Hi All

Hears some output from UI-Path showing network routes around north England
Station G0DJA-3 can be accessed by:
G7VBT-3 G7HJT-3 M1AJG-3 G0UOS M1EKD-3 G0VRD-3 G7PAF-3 G7UAN-3 G8UAQ-4
M1BYT-3 G7KEZ-3 M1DNV-3 G7SRI-4
I'm a bit confused here. Whilst I'm honoured to get a mention <blush>, some
of the stations metioned are at least one hop away from me under normal
conditions.

Even some of the ones I can get to 'normally' get covered by the Objects
that ZRN mentions.

So, please do not be surprised if I'm not the next station on from all of
those listed. In fact, some of them I have to double hop to get to on a
regular basis.

Cheers - Dave (G0DJA)

Re: messages -> Internet

From: Hamish Moffatt <hamish@...>

The linux machines run 24x7, while the Windows machines don't. Hence
I deliberately leave the packet gear on a linux machine (it's an APRS
digipeater too). But it does mean when I want to run WinAPRS or UI-View
to actually view the APRS network, send messages etc, I have to do
everything via the Internet. (Actually, just my ethernet, but who's counting?)
I'm sorry to go off topic, but I'm having 'fun' setting up Linux on my machine!

Without going in too deep, I managed to partition the drive, installed
Linux, moved some files for Windows to a third partition and the 'poof', the
other two partitions dissapeared.

Now what I get is an error message (even though Windows - Spit - seems to be
seeing the whole HDD) when I run FIPS saying that the end cylinder is not
empty (because the Windows files are there?) any one out there any ideas
whta I should do next?

Thanks - Dave (G0DJA)

Station G4LBJ can be accessed by:
GB7OMN
Hmm, this one you'll have to be careful with - GB7OMN can only really be
found on 433.650 & 144.975 (9k6), and to digi by it you would need to
specify the output port callsign - GB7OMN-7 (for 433.650) or GB7OMN-2 for
144.975 as it is a PCFlexnet node.
I had put a beacon on for it merely to show it's location, and it is most
likely that it has actually appeared from Lenny G4LBJ's crossband digi.

But it is good to see it and my own callsign, making their way around the
country!

I wonder how far away the beacons have been seen with and without digis?

In one of the digests I received there was a link to a web site showing the

I'm interested , as well as use with UI-View etc it was/is capable of

I'd be grateful for the link again.

Attica maps

Does anyone know what the full procedure is for producing attica maps for UI-View. I've got a copy of the winaprs procedure. GM0UDL anmd myself have been sruggling to get our stations positioned correctly on any maps produced. The inf file is correct and corresponds with the attica map. Its probably something simple.
Appreciate any advice.

Hi all,

To explain the apparent backlog of digi'ed beacons.

;-) I was actually up and down the M1 last Thursday, my first job was
straight up to Leeds and then half way back I got a phone call to go back to
Leeds and collect an item for return to Redditch then home to Kidderminster
for tea.;-)

Talking of Leeds, there's a lot of strange objects floating around to the
point that I can't read my GPS display ;-(

P.S. if you see me beaconing the car icon then I'm usually scanning the
repeater section of 2M if anyone wants a chat, if I'm on the bike then sorry
no phone comms as the headset in the helmet is tied up with the mobile
phone, no peace for the wicked!

All the best for the season.

Its depressing just seeing your own house on the screen.

Occasionally I see a station in Essex I think but that is depicted as a

I am on 144.800,perhaps everyone has migrated to 8125 and not told me hi.
