the tnc works great using putty alone .

The UZ7HO Soundmodem will work on practically any sound card, VASTLY outperforms the 40-year-old hardware TNC-2 design,? and is FREE!?? It starts and runs NATIVELY in KISS mode.?? It can connect to APRS applications via either KISS-over-IP (most modern APRS clients) or via the AGW Packet Engine IP interface (UIview).?? I have numerous copies of the Soundmodem connecting to UIview -- just select the AGPE in "Host Mode" under "Setup", "Comms Setup" in UIview.
The soft modem also lets you get rid of over an amp of power drain at 12 VDC that the TNC2 consumes!
