I've been running UI-View on my Windows XP laptop
which finally died. The backup, which had run UI-View
on Windows 7 w/o issue was upgraded to Windows 10.
On anything newer than XP, Windows uses UAC... user
access control. Where do you have UI-View installed?
Is it somewhere other than below "program files"?
Yes, you can mess around with things like "install as
admin" or "run as admin" but it makes things a lot simpler
if you simply install it somewhere else... e.g.
C:\UI-View32 or C:\radio\UI-View or whatever.
Even if UI-View was previously working under Windows 7,
if you have a problem with it now under Windows 10, my
recommendation would be to uninstall it and wipe out the
old UI-View installation folder and install it somewhere
as mentioned above. Of course, if you make a backup copy
of the files uiview32.ini and uireg.bin, you can star
off with all of your old settings and without having
to re-register it.
Now I can't connect with my D-700. I've tried 3
different USB-serial adapters, including a US
Converters XS882 with the current FTDI driver.
I've downloaded a terminal program, and tried
to connect to the D700 that way, but don't really
have any experience with this.
First things first. Once you have UI-View running
without any UAC silliness going on, you could concentrate
on the serial port. With the FTDI driver installed,
can you "see" the TNC when you connect with a
terminal program? Look in the device manager to
see what com port the FTDI driver is using. The
radio should be set to "packet" instead of "aprs".
I suspect your problems will just disappear once
you get it installed somewhere other than below
Program Files so that UI-View can save changes to
the settings in uiviewe32.ini and so that it can
save lists of received stations and so on.
