Ahah, I've just learnt...
I was using AGW on the remote. Removed it and it still talks! Thanks Andy

Hi Bob
Woops you need only run AGW on the packet machine it is not needed on the
remote machine.
As far as I know you need agw see below for the extract from
changes 216.txt
As for setting up an IP adress do start -> settings -> control panel ->
network
Then look for TCP/IP > do properties on the IP adress tab do specify ip
adress and pick something at random such as 33.33.33.01 this is
now your IP
adress and for god's sake do this only on your packet machine not your
internet machine otherwise you will run into problems with your internet
machine.
Hope that helps.

(V2.16)
20. AGW host mode now supports the Packet Engine tcp/ip interface.
Previously it only supported the DDE interface. If the Packet Engine
and UI-View are running on the same PC (the normal situation), there
is no advantage to using the tcp/ip interface. However, it enables you
to have AGWPE running on a different PC to UI-View. PLEASE read the
"AGWPE Setup" section of the help, and PLEASE TAKE NOTE of the
requirements. In particular, you MUST have version 2000.13, dated 29th
December 1999, or later of the Packet Engine, because all previous
versions lacked support on the tcp/ip interface for a feature used by
UI-View. NOTE - there was an earlier version 2000.13 that didn't have
support for the required feature.

Hi Bob
First make sure your network works using windows so you can
access files
on
the other computer.
Then install AGW (new version) on both machines
On the packet machine make sure winsock interface is ticked
run ui-view on the packet machine and make sure it works with agw.
run ui-view on the remote machine and setup the host to agw and clck on
setup and enter the IP address on the packet machine.
Once this is done you get UI-View on the remote machine
operating exactly
as
if it was on the packet machine. Nice one Roger!
====
If you wish to setup it up so as to connect to the internet from your
packet
machine then you need to get hold of wingate and install it on your
internet
machine.
Good Luck- Andy, G7OCW

Subject: [ui-view] lan feature !!!
well I have sat here for the past 3 hours and tried to get my packet
machine to work with my internet machine over the LAN
being a newbie to LAN I still need to do a bit of soul searching.
I have read the docs and still it eludes me
what exactly do I need to do ????
can someone enlighten me in layman's terms
I have for my internet machine a p133 with a pci network card running
into
a 5 port hub
for packet I have a p300 with the same type of network card running
into
the same hub
UI-view 2.16 is loaded onto both machines
I have seen the lights on the hub flashing (port 1 and 2) which leads
me
to believe that I am most of the way there but I am missing that vital
ingredient !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ho hum
BTW Roger thanks for the f8 key on disabling the GPS makes driving a
lot
easier now that I can switch to another application while on the move
Regards
Bob Scaife using ui-view 2.16 reg
