6 Commando attack on Leese, 7 April 1945 6mm IABSM game
We played this 6mm IABSM game back in December and it gave me a chance to get my Commandos on the table for the first time. This scenario came from the Forgotten Battles from France to Germany, January to April 1945 scenario book from Anschluss Publ. The gist of the game is that the defending Germans are expecting the British to come from the west and have placed their defenses accordingly. However the Commandos have worked all the way round to the east and are launching their attack from that edge. Germans are defending with a company from a SS training battalion and have 4 20mm Flak guns in support. The Commandos start with 2 Troops and get additional units later including a troop of tanks. 6mm Poland 44 IABSM AAR
3
This was a somewhat generic game based on actions to the east of Warsaw in August 1944 where the Soviets had sent masses of tanks through thin lines of the German defenders. The panzer units were then forced to scramble to cut those units off before they totally disrupted the front. Russians had 2 T34 companies and a company of tank riders Germans started with 2 StuGIVs and rec'd a counter attacking force of 4 Panthers, a Stummel and 5 Pzgrd sections in Sdkfz251s. You've all got it in for me.

I began the year setting out to play a game in a period I love with a commercial set of rules. I just got nowhere and abandoned the attempt. Inspired by the TFL Advent Calendar, I got out "Infamy! Infamy!" had three exciting games and got my mojo back. Thanks TFL Stephen

Need term equivalents
5
A Sci-Fi skirmish game I'm playing has tactics cards that say "Move It!" and "Out of Ammo." "Move It!" gets a soldier going with another activation. Like "Get Off Your Arse and Move It!" "Out of Ammo" is just that -- your soldier is out of ammo. Now a friend and I are designing a fantasy version of the game and need "older" equivalents for these two terms. It could be something from ancient or medieval days. Note that "ammo" now will include arrows, darts, spears, rocks (for slings). I'm considering "Stand To!" for "Move It!" and "Depleted" for "Out of Ammo." But I throw this out to the group for ideas. Thanks Chuck

Buna Beach head December 42 CoC game
From back in December we played a 20mm Chain of Command game based on the 18th Australian Infantry Brigade, 2/6th Australian Armoured Regiment attack against some troops from the 229th Rgt (probably) in December 42. It was an uneven game with Jon having to face 2 platoons of Aussies under Rob and Bill and a M3 Stuart. Both sides had slightly depleted units. All the Japanese were dug in or in hard cover. The Aussies choose a pre game barrage and 1 Stuart. The Japanese had a MMG team which Jon put in hard cover on his left to sweep the coconut tree flank. The only AT assets were a team of tank busters with grenades. Click on the pics to get a description: https://www.flickr.com/photos/6mmgaming/albums/72177720295871231 Mark

Holiday Sharp Practice AWI game
After a year off, I ran another of the 'Apparently Annual (except during a pandemic) Sharp Practice Holiday' games. This year it was another AWI foraging game. The difference was that I had 3 competing Crown units against 1 defending rebel player. The premise was that the combined Crown force was moving in on a small group of farmsteads that was suspected of having some ripe pickings. As each group entered a house, barn or outbuilding, they would dice to see what they found. So many of the goodies in the dwellings had some alcoholic spirits which while desirable might also cause some debilitating effects on the combat effectiveness. Chickens, pigs, cattle . . . could all be taken away by a few designated men. The Jager, Light bob or Highlander unit with the most loot would win. I also have multiple choice quiz questions between phases that award a Command Chip for correct guesses. This year's quiz was focused on European Holiday food traditions. To get everyone in a festive mood I handed out treats ahead of time. The Brit Lights received a pack of Penguin biscuits, the Jagers got a bag of pfeffernusse cookies, the Scots a box of Walkers shortbread and the New York colonist a bag of Tate's Bake Shop cookies. And any casualties would initiate a cup of Hersey kisses to get passed around. And since Gigabites has a great selection of beer and cider this was the closest thing to a wargame holiday party that was going to happen. coc us squad/ team activation query
7
I note on page 93 the US armored platoon, squads 1 and 2, each have a junior leader and a team of 11 men. I take it this can activate on a '2' as a squad but should the Leader be killed they count as a team and can only be activated thus? Thanks

15mm German infantry in Greatcoats (flames of war), where to find them?
7
I realize that they quit making this line of figures but surely they are out there somewhere, does anyone know who is still carrying them? They go by “German Infanterie platoon (greatcoats)” ive ordered from multiple places that day they are available only to have them email me the next day saying that they don’t carry them, which is a pain. I’m sure someone has a couple platoons out there, can anyone help? cheers!

6mm IABSM Highway Seven Anzio bridgehead AAR
4
Thought it would be nice to do a game with US troops for Veterans Day (Nov 11), and since I had no US 6mm minis Jon would bring his long hibernating 6mm Americans. So I stole another scenario off of Rob Avery's Vis Lardica site that would be a simple set up. For variety I wanted a game that was in Italy so the Highway 7 scenario from the Anzio pack looked good. The action takes place on January 31, 1944 with units of the US 3rd Div trying to expand the Anzio beachead out through the dug in Herman Goering Pz Div. https://www.flickr.com/photos/6mmgaming/albums/72157720185498434 Mark

Fall East Front CoC game AAR
I wanted to get a game in with some seasonal color, so decided on a WWII East Front CoC game in 15mm. With a nip in the air, I used my Gebrigsjager and the caped Russians. The Mountain troops were rated as Vets and had the extra colored dice (5 and 6s did not count on that dice). Soviets got enough points to dig in and opted for a minefield and light mortar. They also had 3 extra smgs per section-which were an actual detriment for most of the game. Link to the flickr AAR: https://www.flickr.com/photos/6mmgaming ... 0164364646 Mark

coc unattached leaders in close combat
3
I know this has been discussed before, but I can't quite remember the conclusions. Isolated leaders when attacked in close combat can seem to put up quite a fight. Did I read somewhere they are automatically killed? Or was this perhaps done on one of Richard's You tube videos? Martyn S

multiple sixes...again
9
I know this was discussed back in 2016 in the CoC critique thread. Back then I was happy with the multiple phases knowing it didn't happen that often and often to my advantage but after last nights game where I gained four phases in row which skewed the game to make it a pointless. The game had barely started and I had blown my opponent away through firepower and jump point capture. I'm now thinking of only allowing it once and any extra sixes to add a point to the CoC dice. Four sixes would of course result in a whole CoC dice instead. Martyn S

83rd Naval Infantry Brigade north of Verkhnebakanskiy 6mm IABSM
2
I had been wanting to get my 6mm Soviet Naval troops on the table for awhile so this scenario was designed around that thought. The game was based on the fighting in north Caucasus in August 1942. The Germans were closing in on the port of Novorossiysk from the north and the Soviets had set up blocking positions before Verkhnebakanskiy. This represents the 83rd Naval Infantry Brigade's fallback spot after getting push backed from an area further east. They were facing the 125th Inf Div with some StuGs and armored cars. A pair of 15mm Crimean 41 CoC games
2
Played these a month or so ago and my Soviet Naval troops had a hard go in each of them. I treat them as Green for firing/casualties but give them 5 dice. As Green targets they really need some hard cover to get behind. The first game was an attempt to take out a single German platoon using 2 of the Naval platoons. Link to flickr AAR: https://www.flickr.com/photos/6mmgaming ... 9953214174 The second was a German attack on an entrenched position which included a bunker holding a 45mm ATG. This was a very close one. https://www.flickr.com/photos/6mmgaming ... 0006088040 Mark

Grudziadz Sept 39 IABSM in 6mm
After a late war game I thought some early actions in the Poland 39 campaign would be in order for a September IABSM game. I stole this scenario directly from Rob Avery's excellent Vis Lardica site. Grudziadz is a town in the Polish Corridor and the Germans were actually attacking from East Prussia. The attackers were from the reserve 10th Panzer Rgt. They had a load of light tanks-- 2 platoons of 2) Pz Is and 3) Pz IIs and a HQ platoon of 2 more Pz IIs and another Pz I and a Pz I Befelswagen. They also had a company of 3 platoons of infantry, a 4 gun MMG platoon, 2 AA Halftracks The last 2 units came in after 5 'Time' cards. The town was strategically important because it had several military schools and staff offices. But it was lightly defended. Only infantry and Border units (KOP) and some artillery. Jon had was the defending Poles. He had 3 2) section platoons of infantry. One of KOP troops and the other regulars. They were large sections of 10 men though. The regular platoons also had an ATR and a Lt Mortar. Also 3 taczankas and 3 37mm Bofors ATGs. 2 medium mortars and some artillery--which never came in. Rob had some PZL 37 aircraft to bring in but alas, I did not. All the Poles could be dug in within the perimeter of the town outskirts. Outpost Actions Guadeloupe 1759
Getting around to editing some games played this Summer This is another older game from our GB Historical Day event I am a great fan of the 'Wargaming the Sugar Islands Campaign" booklet by Stuart Insch and thought this game would be a nice addition to our July 2021 event. Colorful Seven Year War troops in a unique setting always make for an interesting battle. This scenario was based on 'Outpost Actions' scenario on Guadeloupe in April 1759. The British are to sally from Fort Royal and attack the French in the more "open" terrain 15mm minis and Sharp Practice rules.
