Re: Multi rule set campaign?
Personally I would go with IABSM for anything larger than a platoon a side - Big CoC is ok as a way of playing larger games if all you are familiar with is CoC, and gives a good well paced game, but it is too well coordinated between platoons for my liking. IABSM has more friction between platoons, which I prefer, and can handle much larger games (and also handles asymmetric battles better).? Hope that helps. Cheers, Jim? Re: BTH: responding to bogeys
Oh yes, 7 of my eight Blenheims got through and inflicted damaged to the airfield and planes on the ground. We were doing the first scenario in Chris Stoesen's 'The Falcon and the Gladiator' campaign book. This game was based on the 2nd attack of the day on the El Adem airfield on 11th June 1940 and interestingly a number of the historical events seemed to reoccur in the game. A good game enjoyed by us both.
We didn't have a desert terrain mat with hexes so had to pretend it had been an unusually wet summer on the North African coast and the desert was extraordinarily green. After the game discussion turned to buying a desert hex mat and the likely cost. We are both tight fisted so the conclusion was that we would try a hexless mat next time and use the movement templates and advice given in the Summer 2012 Lard special. Has anyone else tried this?? Re: Multi rule set campaign?
Thank-you Andrew (S). The playing group is geographically spread, and has a variety of experience. The core of the campaign will be CoC played 1:1 at various houses.? The thought is that it would be fun to set up one bigger game for a larger encounter mid campaign - in large part as an excuse for us all to get together and have a game. Hence the fairly specific questions about comparison between Big CoC and IABSM. Some of us have quite a Lot of CoC experience, some less. None have big CoC. ?some have experience if playing IABSM, but none of designing/fitting it into a campaign. Markers/cards are really not an issue. Really what I’m looking for are hints about where people would put the break points between games in those two rule sets. Re: Multi rule set campaign?
Thanks Andrew (H), Obviously none of us here have yet played ‘On group - although I am looking forward to it immensely. Given the time we have already spent on research, for that reason, I was discarding it as an option. Re: BTH: responding to bogeys
I think John is right. His pilots can see black dots in the sky so they know someone's planes are there. They just don't know whose. That is what a bogey is in as air encounter context. So they fly closer in order to try and gain an identification.
Now on to the more interesting question - ...did you get through and flatten the target or did he successfully intercept you? Grah |
Re: Multi rule set campaign?
Hi Nick,
Well a consideration is how familiar are you and the other players with IABSM, plus you'll need whatever associated tokens and cards that IABSM requires. Will there be lots of transporting so need to make sure have both sets of rules carried around. Of course you've got them both together in the carry case not like took them out the night before for some bedtime reading and left them on the side cabinet and nobody else brought a copy and dammit what is that rule on page 32. Also depending how many other players, you don't want to see one player turn up wanting a game of CoC but other wants a game of IABSM. If this is your first multi player campaign, or even if not, keep it as simple as possible at all times. As a general rule, I'd say stick with the one rule set, if Big CoC isn't going to quite scratch the itch then maybe you need to do the whole thing in IABSM. Will you be using Platoon forward or at the Sharpe end, can it still work mixing the games? Also is this being played at a club, or someones man cave (front room when the misses or parents are out). How likely is a player at a loose end going to arise and you want to see where you can fit them in,what if they don't know both rule sets and don't get to engage as fully (read have as much fun), as they expected, as your organising the campaign YOUR fault when it goes wrong and there's a player left hanging or worse disgruntled. If your playing as well as umpiring the campaign play the one rule set, whichever you decide on. As a thought you could run it all in CoC/Big CoC with outcomes recorded for some bonuses for an end of campaign more epic flourishing finish of a larger sized IABSM. Imagine the chat at the end you might have, after all, who knew that one guy hanging in to protect the well/petrol pump/ammo dump/crossroads would make here. When you've got a group to organise Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) at all times including for yourself as the organiser, the more complex the more work, and the more that can go wrong. Just a few thoughts, I've never run a campaign, yet anyway, so hope it all goes well and have fun :) |
Re: Multi rule set campaign?
Big ChoC can handle up to a company per side. Bigger than that would suit the forthcoming"O Group" from TFL. Should be here by Easter ;-) Regards ---- Nick wrote ---- I’m currently working planning a (primarily CoC) campaign, set early war , western desert, 15mm, and a little thought has crossed my mind. There are more than two of us intending to take part in the campaign, we’re all busy preparing forces, and I know that I, for one have over prepared. Primarily the campaign needs to be 1-on-1 CoC, and I am working on scenarios where this can work. Fringes of larger encounters etc. There are however historical encounters too large for CoC, and it would be fun at some point to have a larger battle involving more of the players. So, the question. Big CoC, or IABSM for larger encounters?? Reasons for either? Any thoughts? -- Nick Meredith nick.meredith@... |

Replying to this as it appears to have fallen down the gap between hosts. On Sat, 16 Nov 2019 at 13:17, Nick Meredith <nick.meredith@...> wrote:

BTH: responding to bogeys
I had the situation last night where my British Blenheims were on? bombing mission against an Italian airfield. The Italian defenders had failed repeatedly to spot me, so I was still a bogey to them,? but they? started to manoeuvre to gain a firing position anyway. A friendly difference of opinion ensued! I was saying they couldn't do that because they didn't know anything was there and the Italian player (John , you know I mean you!) took the view that they knew something was there just not what, and therefore it was legitimate to act in the way they did. Opinions please.

开云体育Enjoy it while it lasts.? Thomas has probably already glued himself to a climbing wall and Koen is trying to keep him calm since somehow Thomas managed to do it upside down. A few of the yahoo groups I was on have gone to and it has been pretty?good. I think that the yahoo group had got quiet due to how flaky it had become under yahoo as much as anything else. With the other channels I find twitter can be noisy so things get missed even though I do participate and forums have the problem of being in so many different places.?
