Re: Spotting modifiers

Sure, but as you quoted yourself, there is also a?+1 spotting modifier for units which have fired. So We've always played that unit on the table are known to the force commander (you) but not necessarily visible to the troops on the ground.

Re: Spotting modifiers

Yes, they are replaced with figures - but that is not the same as being spotted!
Even if figures are on the table, opposing troops still need to spot them; it's easier than spotting a blind, but you still need to roll.

Section 2.1, page 22, clearly states:

Blinds are replaced with figures when they are spotted by the enemy or when the troops they represent open fire.

Re: Spotting modifiers

It's placed on the table - but that doesn't mean it is spotted. It just means you know it is there, not that your troops know exactly where the guys firing at them are

Have a question.

Spotting rules say "add +1" to attempt to spot role if target fired this turn.

Why would you need to try and spot this unit at all? Once it opens fire, it is placed on the table...right?

check shapeways.com? ?and search for 1/72 scale. I purchased an excellent 1/87 57mm gun from there.

Re: IABSM - Blinds

I find that blinds help me A) to get troops into action faster and thus speed up the start of the game and B) cause some fog of war because I am unable to remember exactly which blind is which. :-)

I do, although I've experimented with deploying units and placing a blind with them to track who has been spotted :)

You still need to keep track of what is on a blind, and what is not, because stuff on blinds is not spotted and cannot be shot at.
Also, if you are the attacker, you can surprise yourself by randomising what is assigned?to each blind.
There's a system in 'Platoon forward' for using blinds to provide surprises for the solo gamer.

Re: CoC Old Hickory US support options

Found 3 sources in my existing book marked suppliers - FAA in the States do both guns and a crew pack; SHQ in the UK also do both guns and a crew pack and finally, EWM do the guns only (twin model packs)

Re: CoC Old Hickory US support options

Just a caution, but if you haven't worked with Ace kits before, they can be very fiddly and frustrating. MY experience is that while they can be made up into nice kits, unlike modern Revell or similar, they often lack precise locating lugs, parts may be slightly warped, or the instructions miss bits out. They do some very interesting models though.

Patience, photographs and dry-fitting are your friends.

Thanks guys for the responses. I will go with 2 of each type.

Looking around in the 20mm scale there isn't a lot of US AT gun models out there in that scale. I found Ace makes a 3in AT gun which will work.

Cheers

Game 10 in the Malaya 42 CoC campaign

This game was really the last scenario in Len Tracey's Malaya 1942 mini campaign from the TFL special.? It was the 10th game that we had done in this series.? After #9 the original Aussie platoon under Lt Archie Cobb had been reduced to just a few men so this was beefed up with replacements to such a degree that it was now Green.? This is really a bonus game as the Japanese offensive is behind schedule.? The scenario involves a Japanese assault on a bridge over a canal. ?
We really love this series and had some great cinematic moments already. ?

Re: Big WaT Games & Initiative

We've used D20s - one per vehicle and added 3 per '6' retained from last round.? Works well with 4-5 players with 2-3 tanks each.? Any equal scores are re-rolled for who gets to go first of those with the same score, so retaining the overall sequence of individual vehicle activations for that turn.

Re: Big WaT Games & Initiative

Yes, I forgot to mention how we handle a '6' to go first.
If you reserve a 6 to go first you put the die aside on your display. At the beginning of the turn I pull the cards of everyone (usually only one, if there are any) who reserved a 6. If there is more than one 6 reserved and they are on opposing teams, I shuffle these cards and draw the first player and so on. However, if you reserved a 6 to go first, you do NOT get to roll this die for your turn. So far no one has complained, but this may be why I don't get many using the 6 to go first. So, while my way may punish you by using your 6 on the previous turn and not being able to use it on the current turn, you do get to first (or one of the first). Not a boost to your initiative or anything. Once the '6' player/s are done, I resume the normal draw from the main deck.

Re: CoC Old Hickory US support options

That depends on how many AT guns the US player has deployed in a sector.
We are playing this currently and (I am figuring you mean the 3¡± AT Guns although there are the 57mm guns as well) at this point
the US player has not deployed more than one 3¡± gun in any engagement - but could.
So, you need 4 total but probably, at least at first, will not use more than 2.
Hope that helps.
BTW, if you are the umpire (like me) you will know what the deployment is before the German player(s) pick their attacking sector so you should not be caught off-guard
Best,
Mitch

Re: CoC Old Hickory US support options

Hi Kieran,

In theory, you could need 4 + 2 for a total of 6 but I think that very unlikely as it would need you to allocate all your ATG to one route and risk being hit from another direction with little to counter the German armour.? Should you get to the last table with all 6, then that would need them but I can't see that happening very often at all.? I also generally allow proxies in cases such as this, as long as it is made clear on deployment. That also reduces the requirement. Personally, 2+2 would sound good to me.

Kind regards,

Richard

Hi all

I just brought the PDF and I'm trying to figure out how many US AT guns I need to buy and paint. I'm hoping I don't have to deploy more than 2 of any type for a game? How have others gone?
