Dear ones,
I had questions sent to me private email and I will answer them here (minus
the senders' identity to honor private mail status). I am making a post
because others may be silent and what is asked here is good to know.
This was the note:
-----------------------
Hi David,
I was a bit disturbed to find I had been moved to a new list,
as I'm sure other people were. There was no warning of this and it
came as a shock.
Am I right in understanding that the JDC list has simply been moved
to ONElist, and not merged with any other list. ?
Why was it necessary?
Do we have to have the ONElist sponsor blurb ?
----------------------
To sender and all,
The ONLY thing that is different is the server itself. The list constituency
is EXACTLY the same, not one more JDC'er is here. Nothing was "merged".
It is on Onelist for a vast multitude of very good reasons:
...lots more features, less cost. The service: As good or better!
(on the cost: it is the difference of $348.00/year - versus - Free ),
and "Free" is why there is a blurb at the bottom of each email.
It is all about advertising, and there is only a quiet little line there to support
all Onelist offers, and that is a lot.
And now.... TA-DA....((((((More good news))))))))....
As I mentioned yesterday, I really and truly *love* an ad-free list,
(or an ad-free anything for that matter), which is what I paid for on LSoft.
For only $59.40 per year, ($4.95 per month), Onelist removes the "blurb".
The check went in the mail yesterday for that. When Onelist gets it,
they will remove the blurb line there. Look for that benefit in a week or so. YAY!
This is a gift I give to myself, as you all are, and I want no compensation for it.
On Onelist it is just more gift for less. <g>
Onto another private email question:
"Is there presently an archive anywhere that reaches back further, and if so,
how far back does it go, and will it be maintained, and how can I get into
it?"
One BIG benefit is that Onelist stores all posts forever, (amazing but true!)
All anyone has to do is click it over to:
to see anything posted. It is neatly indexed by date and subject title there.
The email address of the sender is also truncated there for privacy. As far as what
was posted before just recently when this list was moved; I have stored
all archives since October 15, 1998 on my laptop. I have stuff much before that,
but every one since then, and I will do a search of them if asked. That is
why I stored them. I also felt moved to do that since I was the list administationist.
Now anyone can search anytime of the day or night. There isn't much there now because
this list is new to Onelist.
Another benefit, as I mentioned yesterday, is that Onelist has a "no attachment"
feature. This is indeed good news. What we get here is *only* text, and that is
insured. There is no way to receive a virus or megafiles sent to the list.
It leaves this sort of thing for private email or other lists, not here! I really like that one!
Onelist does offer a "shared file" area, where anyone can go to upload a file, or pick one up.
This is done at the discretion of the list subscriber,
...and *never* sent to directly to the inbox of the subscribers directly.
Again: "Is good"!
There are LOTS more benefits, but I will leave it at that for now.
Much love and growth,
InJoy!
david.
