Vector/Waveform Monitors 13
I have 2 vectorscopes/waveform monitors, one 1740 not an A made around 1988 and one 1760 made around 1998. Both units exibit the same problem, weak display. I did some quick tests and all voltages look good and functions I know how to use seem to work. Most likley these both have weak tubes but I need to be positive any help on what to test next? The 1760 manual is on tekwiki and I have the 1740 manual on order. I do not have a tube checker or a HV probe of 1G resistance at this time. -- Jeffeelcr

DSA602 useful? too huge on a bench? 6
I could get a a couple of these cheap locally, (one for parts), except they are not super repairable...and they are huge. Anyone like their function? Skip to 11801 or CSA803? John

Tek 465b focus issue 42
Hello, I'm a new member here. I'm not a repair professional but a vintage audio hobbyist and use a scope for testing amplifiers and other audio gear I restore or build from scratch. Most of the equipment I work on is vacuum tube type. I got this scope on ebay for not much more than the shipping charge. It is in very good cosmetic shape besides broken away cable wrap feet. Initially, I couldn't get a trace out of it but noticed that many push switches do not return to "off" position on their own, so I started with cleaning the controls that are accessible. Some of the switches seem sealed but there were many that are not. After cleaning I was able to get a trace on both channels that responds to sine and square but it is not anywhere sharp as I'd expect it to be. I have a friend, who is a retired TV repairman. He was able to improve the scope sharpness by re-seating some transistors in their sockets but the trace is still fuzzy. It responds to Focus and Astigmatism adjustments but it just doesn't get sharp enough to use the scope for any kind of measurements. He seems to think the issue is CRT itself. I took a scope reading out of the rear BNC connection with my Tenma and it displayed a sharp trace. Here are the examples. First is 1KHz from signal generator displayed by Tek and second is the same signal displayed by Tenma from Tek's rear BNC port: I can reduce trace intensity to make it sharper but the trace becomes very difficult to see. Increasing intensity makes the trace very fuzzy. Does it look like the CRT is the culprit? My tech checked Anode and Cathode voltages as well as Grid Bias. All in specs. Focus adjustment passes through the best possible image in the middle of the control rotation. Any suggestions? I have a service manual copy but it is not complete. Some pages are missing. Thanks in advance. DG

TDS460 Repair 8
Hi All, Just having gotten one of these (free, broken), I'm starting to evaluate what may be wrong with it. Reportedly, it stopped working suddenly with a POP! The owner assumes a tantalum cap went bust, but he doesn't recall a lot of smoke or anything like that, so I'm not convinced it's that. Some initial observations: Upon opening the case, I immediately became suspicious of the Schaffner line filter, but then I do get 120V out of this AC line input module, so maybe it's not that. From the same module, the fan is NOT getting power. I am not able to find any DC on the PS output header (tried the most accessible 5 or 6 pins). I am uploading supporting pics on the files area of the forum. Obviously, it's going to all be a bit of a blindfolded pursuit, not having a decent service manual (by that, I mean component-level). I am reading through Figure 6-31 Primary Troubleshooting Procedure see if I can come up with a culprit. Thank you for your input in advance. Radu.

Probe suitability 2
Hi All, Anyone know of any issue using a P5050 (500MHz) 10X probe on a sub-200MHz scope (475, 7603) or others. -- Best regards, Graham

TDS-460 component-level service manual?... 5
Hi all, I'm looking for this (see subject line). It doesn't look like Artek has it (though maybe I am missing it). Is this something anyone has seen? It seems a product build recently enough that they may have not issued "CLIPs" for it at all. Thank you, Radu.

TDS 320 SAVE/RECALL ERROR 2
Hello, I'm new to the group and just got a TDS 320 that is displaying a save/recall error when I look in the log. On startup it shows passed in all areas. The manual doesn't provide much insight and I was hoping someone here might have some advice. Thanks, Doug

TDS 7404 configuration issue after replacing CMOS battery 8
My TDS 7404 was working fine when I put it in storage a few years ago. When I got it back out the other day, it would not start up properly. I found that the CMOS battery was dead and the scope had lost its BIOS configuration. I replaced the CMOS battery, set the date and time, and told the TDS where to find its hard drive and touchscreen display. Now the scope boots into Windows and then displays the scope application startup splash screen, but gets no further. It may be that it is looking for the scope hardware but is unable to find it. Is there a setting in the BIOS that I missed? The service manual gives the procedure to reload the CMOS memory, and also discusses various hardware and software diagnostics. If I need to do any or all of those I will, but in the meantime, I was hoping to draw upon the group knowledge to find out if there's a quicker and/or easier way to get the scope running again. Thanks, Stan

Replacing readout lamps in Tek 576 curve tracer 2
My 576 works well except that a few of the #683 bulbs that illuminate the fiber optic scale factor readouts are burned out. The service manual is quite terse on the procedure to replace them, and completely ignores the situation where the burned out bulb is on the front readout circuit board. Does anyone have any practical experience and/or tips on how to replace the bulbs, on both the front and rear boards, with a minimum of risk to the fiber optic bundles? Thanks, Stan

2465B wobbly display 15
I've recently acquired a 2465B. The instrument powers up okay but the display has a vertical wobble (about the 50Hz mark..) which affects both the trace and the alphanumerics. I'd think it's power supply, but is there anywhere to look first? Thanks, Richard
