Extra Tektronix 155-0019-00 part (free)
2
Hello, I inherited some old parts and came across this IC, documented on the website (https://w140.com/tekwiki/wiki/155-0019-00). Perhaps a Tektronix user might be interested? It was free to me, so free to whomever might need it. Thanks, --- Zach

Slightly OT: Question on commercial PCBs (such as PC computer motherboards) vs "one off" or prototype PCBs (Oshpark / JLCPCB)
8
Hello All, I have done many custom hobby level PCB and circuits (four layer and two layer boards), bought thousands of components from Mouser, Newark, etc, purchased hundreds of feet of hook up wire and never once did any of them have that "strong new electronics smell" that I detect when removing a new PC motherboard from its static proof plastic bag or when opening up a new-in-box PC power supply. I have never noticed it when purchasing brand new higher end electronic test equipment (Tektronix, HP/Agilent/Keysight, Fluke). I have done many web searches on what the cause might be I have come across some suggestions as to what may contribute to the chemical off gassing. - bromide based fire protection coating - board cleaning / flux cleaning wash - fire retardant infused hookup wire insulation (this seems a bit far fetched to me) Anyone here involved or had experience with consumer (read as low cost / high quantity) commercial PCB and electronic manufacturing that could give some clues as to what it may be and if it is infused into the PCB / wire / components or if it can be cleaned / removed? Thanks, Dave

Looking for rear feet for 2465 DVM scope
4
I just picked up a 2465DVM from a TV station nearby, I have a few questions but I'm mostly looking for the rear feet/cord wrap that is supposed to be on this scope. The bottom parts of the feet are broken off, I suppose from being bashed around on a cart. Also, is it normal for the fan on this model to be loud, as if it's off balance? The 2445 I bought and got back working, the fan on it is quiet. Not so on this one. Naturally it doesn't have the original manual. I read somewhere there was a different fan put in serials after B050000 but I don't have the manual to see the schematic and part changes there.

WTB: P6245 probe, but just the probe end....
Hi, I recently picked up a faulty P6245 probe, mainly for the accessories that came with it. It looks like someone blasted it past it's ratings and blew a chip in the probe end, but I'm thinking it could be fixed with some spare parts. I found it is quite possible and not too hard to pull the ceramic PCB out of the probe to swap it over. So, I'm wondering if anyone has one of these probes that is damaged in another way, but the probe end is still working? If so, I'm interested in throwing a few dollars at this to get it working again... Does anyone have this part that they could stick into an envelope to Japan for me? Thanks! Jared

Tektronix 547 Lack of Sweep or Intensity Control
36
My ancient Tektronix 547 oscilloscope with 1A1 plugin was working fine until a few weeks ago when the display suddenly went intermittent and bright, and an arcing sound came from the area of the crt high voltage circuit. No arcing could be seen anywhere, but the sound definitely came from the vicinity of the high voltage assembly. At this point, the Intensity control had no effect, and the intermittent sweeps were very bright. The sweeps only occurred when the arcing sounds were heard. Otherwise, a bright spot stayed on the left side of the display. The focus control also had only a slight effect. Suspecting the flyback transformer T801, I sourced an assembly from another 547 that included the transformer and the voltage multiplier comprised of the 5642 diodes. Symptoms remained the same, unfortunately. Replacing one of the regulator tubes in the 350V supply (6CW5) with a brand new one strangely made the arcing go away, but still no display. In fact, no more intermittent sweeps, only the ultra bright spot at the left hand side of the display. Currently, I have no way of measuring the high voltages from this assembly (10kV), so I¡¯m not sure if they¡¯re within spec. I also changed out the four 0.01uF caps in the Intensity circuit in case they were arcing, but no improvement. Scoping the output of the B Sweep Generator section (at tube V91), there was no sign of a sweep waveform (consistent with the stationary bright dot on the left side of the display). I¡¯ve tested every tube in the scope, except for the 6080s (and checked all transistors for opens or shorts). None gave the impression that they would be show stoppers. I also scoped all B+ and B- rails. All were rock steady except for the +350V line, which had some ripple. Even after changing out the 6CW5, the ripple was still there. It¡¯s obviously generating high voltage as evidenced by the bright spot on the crt. I can¡¯t understand the relationship between the inability to control Intensity and Focus and the lack of a sweep signal. It doesn¡¯t matter whether I¡¯m in A, B or ALT timebases. Could the crt have an internal fault? Any advice or best guesses as to where I should look next would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Tek 2432 & 2430A Power up fails
26
Hi all, I have a Tek 2432 which fails the following; 1: 7000 CCD 2: 8000 PA 3: 9000 TRIGS I also have a Tek 2432A which fails; 1: 5000 WP 2: 8000 PA -- no pass/fail message 3: 9000 TRIGS -- no pass/fail message Is this an almighty going round in circles job or has anyone been through this before? Before you suggest it - the batteries are ok. I may donate these if they require a lot of time to fix to somebody who has the time. Regards Gearoid Loughnane Dublin

465 Dead HV Multiplier?
6
My lovely 465 died immediately after I finished some cosmetic repairs. Low voltage test points all look good. No beam, except when I disconnect the ground lead of the HV multiplier as suggested by VintageTek Museum on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hf1qhx3JNRY). (I also hear some crackling sounds with the multiplier disconnected, so I haven't run it in this state for more than a few seconds.) Could the problem be anything else besides the multiplier? I have a digital scope but no high voltage probe. To measure high voltage DC I have been using a 10MOhm resistor and analog ammeter, but of course that's a significant load. If the problem is the multiplier - part number 152-0552-00 - does anyone know if they're still available? I see that a couple members have built replacements, and I would really appreciate a schematic and/or component values. The location of the multiplier within the scope, and the requirement of potting, will make it difficult to troubleshoot a DIY replacement and I have little high voltage experience. So I'd like to get it in 1 shot.

Tek 453 variants
15
I the three Tek 453 scopes. Two are MOD703K, one is 703H. I find the docs that show some differences, along with changes. In the family, I find these variants 453 SN < 20,000 453 SN 20,000+ Major change seems to be nuVistors are changed out for FET's 453 MOD703H (see below) 453 MOD703K (see below) 453-A Larger CTR, 60 mHZ 453-A Later SN, many changes 453A-1 Uncalibrated delay of the delayed sweep 453A-2 Calibrated delay time 435A-3 Calibrated sweep delay and mixed sweep 454A-4 Single time base 453A-5 No documentation found, X-Y mode The 453 MOD703K seems to have more in common with the 453A-5. They share most of the same boards, larger CRT. The docs I have show MOD703K includes: 1. SAWTOOTH OUT facility has been added to the rear panel via BNC connector. 2. CH 1 OUT connector has been moved on the front panel, Amplitude is 200 mV for each division of CH 1 deflection, 3. A GATE and B GATE facilities have been added to the rear panel, 4, The Calibrator Current Loop has been added to the front Panel, and the 1 V CAL connector has been moved 5. A TRACE FINDER control has been added to the front panel. 6. The HORIZ DISPLAY switch has an added position providing XY. 7. The light on the RESET control has been deleted. 8. TRIGGERING (DELAYED SWEEP); COUPLING and SOURCE functions, have been added including an EXT TRIG INPUT or EXT HORIZ connector, 9. Special accessories in lieu of standard are provided, See parts list. Mod 703H includes: 1. A SAWTOOTH OUT facility is added with its BNC connector mounted on the side panel. 2. Amplitude of CH 1 OUT signal is increased to 200 mV for each division of vertical deflection. 3. The CRT is replaced with a CRT having a special internal rise~time graticule. 4. Two. probe tip adapters, two banana plug tips, and a 13.5" BNC to BNC 50 Ohm coaxial cable are added to the standard accessories. I have compiled a type study showing the board part number designations that were used in all the variants, compiled from docs and compared to the ones I own. The doc I find for changes to the 703H and 703K shows changes for 703H after serial number 60777. They do not agree with the one I have that is 60794. The board numbers listed for the 703K agree with what I find in the two scopes I have. The 703H has a couple of boards that have 703H silk-screened on them, and there is a small daughter board (670-704-00) attached to the A Sweep board, missing on the 703K's

Anyone have a power entry module for a TM502 chassis? Or advice on how to repair a broken one.
8
I got a TM502A that is in working condition but was dropped at some point. The spot welds that held the power transformer bracket gave out (I assume from being dropped) and the weight of the transformer broke the snap in tabs that hold the power entry module in place. It's a custom Tek part, so finding an off the shelf part is going to be tough. I know it's a long shot but was wondering if anyone had a spare one in their parts bin? I'm also trying to think of creative ways to secure the broken one in place (both tabs are broken) and have a few ideas but haven't come up with anything that I'm comfortable with yet. Worst case scenario, I can make an aluminum plate for an off the shelf part and forgo the input voltage selector and wire it for 120V and be done with it. The transformer bracket was easy enough to fix with machine screws and is much stronger than the wimpy spot welds that originally held it in place. Ideas? Thanks Jay

vintageTEK new debugging aid
14
At the museum some of the volunteers would use a curve tracer to try and characterize and isolate faults. One of our volunteers used this concept to develop a low cost versatile debugging aid which we now sell. It is a two channel device that uses a weak signal to display two I-V curves on a windows PC. This allows you to compare various circuit elements and look for anomalies to help isolate an area for further investigation. We call this the Curvebug. Our web page has more information including a 9 minute video and the user manual. https://vintagetek.org/curvebug/ Dave

WTB: HV transformer for SC502, Part# 120-1016-00
2
Hi all. Looks like the HV transformer in my SC502 oscilloscope has decided to die... Does anyone have one of these they can sell to me and send to Japan? The one in my unit has part number 120-1016-00 (looks to be used in the SC504 too?), but any compatible revision of this part would be fine. I have paypal ready to go. :) Thanks!

Tek 7a13 mechanical to LED display conversion ? / 7ct1n user notes ?
8
This may be two (2) silly questions: a) Is there a way to convert the 7a13 mechanical ( "veeder root" type ) display to the LED display ? Did Tektronix provide any field Tech notes for doing such ? Does someone have the schematic & parts list for the LED module ? ( does anyone have that module from a dead 7a13) Could it be transplanted into a 7a13 that has the older mechanical module ? b) I am trying to understand how to use the 7ct1n Curve Tracer in a 7704 with the 7a13. Does anyone have a set of simple notes written up for this ? The 7ct1n manual seems a tad confusing ... thank you, rick

identifying this Tektronix GPIB board
2
While going through another crate of Tektronix gear I came across this board, which has the legends "GPIB", "TEK T1", and "R-0291-XB". My google fu might be weak but I can't find any hint to the board's use or origin. Anyone recognize it? Here's a link to the photo: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/7g8yxs2uy8vssnegli0ka/K7WXW-GPIB.jpeg?rlkey=q8333no7z0l761n7jpk6kwcht&dl=0 Thanks - Bill

Nuvistor tubes for sale
3
Morning all, I've got about 70 plus Nuvistor tubes that need a new home. These are nearly all NIB NOS. 6CW4's, 6DS4's, 6DV4's, one 13CW4, and about 35 2 volt versions. I've checked all the boxes to be sure that the brand of the tube in the box matches the box. I haven't tested any of these, but this batch of stuff came from a closed electronics distributor in OH. I want to sell the whole lot. I've got pictures of what's there. I wasn't sure that I could post pics here so if you need to see them I can e-mail them to you. I'll sell them here for $65 for the box including the shipping CONUS.. I'll ship them overseas too, but the shipping will be extra. PayPal works. Let me know. Tektronix 145 PAL test signal generator - repair (oven control circuit and maybe more)
24
Hi all Here /g/TekScopes/topic/107425848 H?kan kindly provided the service manual for this signal generator. I had time to have a look inside and found a shorted cap on the -15V supply (C1200 of A13 board), now the power supply seems to behave a bit better (the 3.6 V rail is still off, at 3.3~ ish Volts) According to the manual the oven temp normal light should come on but this never happens (this circuit doesn't seem to use the 3.6V rail so I ignored it for now) The manual says that TP1100 should be around 4.1-4.2 Volts for the "oven temp normal" light to come on but that never happens.. it hovers around 3.5 V and varies a bit. I noticed that R1156 gets really hot (>100 ¡ãC) but I don't know if this is a fault or not. I took the oven apart to check the thermal fuse but it seems ok... so I'm not really sure where to go from here. I updated the album: /g/TekScopes/album?id=296482 Can I plug the oven in without enclosure for testing? Disclaimer: I obviously have no idea what I'm doing... there doesn't appear to be any notable occurences of this SG on the net so I will try to find faulty or out of spec parts and hope any of you have a good idea where to start Thanks Luca
