TDS software
Hi everyone , I often see posts where people are upgrading the s/w for TDS scopes but always the A,B,C or D versions . Mine is an original version ie. not ABC or D version is it possible to upgrade this scope or is attempting that going to create a large doorstop for me . Your thoughts and help will be most useful and appreciated .

It may be possible to use TDS744A firmware on the TDS744. I have a TDS744A processor board here in my stock of spare parts that looks identical to the pictures I can find online of the TDS744.
If you try updating the firmware using this guide and the scope doesn't boot, you can always flash back to the original firmware (just remember to copy out the original firmware and NVRAM first!) !-(firmware-flash-tools-for-old-tds-series)/msg3758918/#msg3758918 |
Hi Jared , thank you for your response . I have tried looking for any posts from anyone that has actually done it for a very early TDS744 . Mine seems to be late in the production or has been hardware upgraded - no electrolytics on the acq pcb all decoupling caps are ceramic -- even the 10uF caps and in felt pen on the pcb is a date in 1996 . As you discovered the pcb looks identical to the 744A pcb . I will have a good read at the link you provided and see if it helps .
