For your consideration

John Miles

No, no, Fred. Those differently-literate people serve an important purpose:
to supply cheap equipment to the rest of us! After all, "Tectronics" gear
can be had dirt cheap on eBay compared to "Tektronix" gear, because nobody
can find it in their search engine.

Hey - c'mon you guys! If I'd joined the list having got hold of a 549
storage scope, and everyone got anal with me about the way I spelt a damned
word, I'd be off like a shot and good riddance!!

Cut the guy some slack, OK?

Craig

He is from the UK after all. I think you cut him some slack just based on
on the issues he's had with the car he's restoring! He's sounds like a very
interesting chap and it's nice to have some diversity here.

I agree with Craig. Don't be such snobs...

I think the key point is this - there are 1062 members currently on the
Tekscopes list. Whenever posting something, it is important to ask this
question - "If I was actually standing on a stage in front of an auditorium
with over 1000 people from all nations in front of me - would I actually say
this?".

If the answer is "no way" it is time to keep ones mouth firmly shut.

And yes - if anyone has missed the point, I feel very strongly about this.

**** Didn't you see the " ;<)) " in the OP?

I will second that.

I once saw a list composed by the Tektronix mail room of all the various
ways "Tektronix" had been spelled on letters that still made to the company.
Unfortunately, I did not keep a copy of it. I just laughed a lot! There
are at least 30 ways to misspell it.

It seems even worse than my name. I've had main come to Sawyer, Saywer,
Saywers, Saunders, Swyear, Sowear etc etc. My off the cuff reply when
someone on the phone asks how to spell my name is to say "Like Tom, but with
an S on the end", but it seems that the adventures of Tom Sawyer isn't a
standard text at school these days...

Perhaps 35 years ago I received a letter >from a company field rep< in
which he misspelled it!
I worked for a company called Scientific Generics at one stage, and received
a letter from a pharmaceuticals company addressed to Cystic Genetics.
Sounded very painful to me...
