Service Manual for a 5223 w/ Opt. 10
I acquired a 5223 in order to test some plug-ins (5A48s and 5B25Ns), and I guess I didn't do enough research before I bought, because I wound up with a 5223 Opt 10 (GPIB) and TekWiki says that there are different manuals for the Opt. 10 scope than for the non-Opt. 10 scope. The manuals that I see on both TekWiki and on eBay indicate that they are for non-Opt. 10 scopes.
Does anyone have a service manual for the 5223 Opt. 10 that they would be willing to part with? -- Jeff Dutky |
Re: High voltage supply T-935
Thanks - Cap seems OK, can't find VR 746 (as Tektonix seem to have their own way of assigning groups. Maybe I'd better get better close-up glasses!)
So voltages seem normal - and the fuse is OK. Maybe the Hfe of the transistor is too low - but it seems a very simple and robust circuit. |
Re: Anyone Have a Peltola Socket?
I noticed the "little wings" on the Berg design and I didn't recall those being on the one I have. That's part of what prompted me to wonder if they were interchangeable.

Re: Anyone Have a Peltola Socket?
One more advantage of the Berg design is the silicone plug. It is moisture proof and solder proof. That¡¯s great for washing after soldering and limiting crud after the wire is inserted.
Take care to remove all of the solder from the pcb hole. The Berg socket is intended for machine insertion and has a feature for retention in the hole. It is a snug fit. If the hole is too small or has excess solder, the little retention ¡°wings¡± will peel up and get sloppy. |
Re: Opinion on 'scope selection
Sorry for veering off-topic, but I have a room for my hobbies and my other half has a room for hers. The rest of the house is ours.

It works delightfully for both of us. My room is also my work-from-home office. On several occasions, I've reached for something behind me on a Zoom or Teams call, and someone will almost inevitably exclaim, "I thought that was some sort of fake background! You mean all that stuff is _real_!?" I think it looks great in my man-cave, but I can appreciate that it wouldn't be appropriate outside of it. -----Original Message-----

7904, 7103, 2430A, and TDS540A on the bench.? 2430A is mostly backup, 7103 is just in case.? work gets split between the 7904 and the TDS540A depending on rep rate and what I need to do. The 2465 doesn't have a battery backup, unlike the 2465A and B. So you don't have to worry about a battery that has failed, or is about to.

Again - good points to think about - I'm not one to worry too much regarding noise - my wife says I'm deaf, but it's more that I come from a large family.? I must admit to wanting to keep a THS730A as a back-up and lean towards the 2465/2465A after checking the items out. I have a few scopes in my lab, including a 485, 7834, 2430, 2465, 2467 with CTT, TDS784D and a HP54622D. My first go-to is always the 2467 because it's very very usable and usually more than capable. It's only when I run out of "slow" that I go to a digital scope (the HP), or if I run out of fast I go to the TDS784D scope. You should definitely go have a twiddle of all the scopes on offer, and you might want to listen to them as well. You may find that the 2465 is more suitable for a quiet lab than the 2465A, because the former has that wonderful impeller fan, while the latter has a "computer" box fan. On the whole, I'd probably go for the 2465 or the 2465A, though the THS730A is interesting in its own right, as it has two isolated channels. Assuming it comes with suitable probes, this can be a nice feature to have on occasion.
