Re: 547 Repair - how do you locate where parts are located on ceramic strips?
For Q173 and Q373, the critical attributes are Cob and BVcbo. Q184 same except Cob is not top priority. My best results were BC556 and KSA992. Both required extra speedup capacitance. MPSA56 was okay

Re: 2247A Counter/Timer Calibration question
Agree, Ram stby current should be in that neighborhood if no other extraneous leakage. New battery is on the way, so will measure current before installing it. BTW wanted to mention that in those 8

Looking for 70ies "Pulse Parameter Analysis" Program
Hi! I'm looking for a program called "pulse parameter analysis" which was provided by Tektronix in the 70ies. I've uploaded a short program description and an unsharp picture from the original manual

Re: TDS 684A needs recapping?
You might look at this YouTube for a brutal but effective way of recapping boards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8N9O3a9jiM Smon

Re: 547 Repair - how do you locate where parts are located on ceramic strips?
This problem has been discussed here in the past. A common loss of B sweep intensification (not actually retrace blanking) is caused by failure of either or both Q184 or Q173, both fast pnp germanium

Great job, Timothy! Glad to see that your persistence paid off. Cheers Tom Sent from my iThing, so please forgive brevity and typos

Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
Anyone who suggested the problem was bad contacts (Tom etc.) was correct! I did clean the contacts but one of the finger contacts in the CH2 AC/GND/DC switch was not making good contact. I ever so

Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
I have swapped the removable attenuators around and it did not cure the problem. Also they usually dont have such a drastic affect on the trace in my experience.
By Timothy · #171552 ·
Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
Could the attenuators themselves be bad?? It's happened before. If so, then the problems could be variable depending on the attenuation factor. Harvey

Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
Yes, It starts in attenuation. After the C53. I went back to do more probing and found this saw wave in the switches at the spot the arrow is pointing to. I will see if I can figure out how its

Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
I¡¯m interpreting your post to mean that the signal looks bad before you get to the input FET. That reduces the search area considerably. So the problem likely lies between the input bnc and that

Re: WTB 015-2350-01 head for SG 5030 Generator
It is missing. But thank you for the suggestion! Maybe I can find a bad one and fix it to save some money. I dont make a lot of money when repairing/calibrating scopes, its more of a hobby.

Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
The problem appears very soon in the circuit in the attenuation section. The resistors all measured normal. I have swapped cables as a sanity check and the problem did not budge. I fiddled with the

Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
Yes. This is a 465 (not B) so the final transistor is actually Q262. I am able to trace the entire problematic waveform with a second scope all the way from the attenuators R65 to Q262 and also to the

Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
Also, as a sanity check, swap the coax driving your two channels, just to make sure that the problem you're seeing is indeed originating inside the scope and not from, say, a flaky cable. -- Prof.

Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
Correct -- the delay line can't be your problem, as it's common to both channels. Your "ramping" waveform looks like a simple bandwidth reduction. It's what you would see if you passed an ideal square

Re: Tektronix 465 CH2 issues #photo-notice
Timothy, Have you tried using CH1 (or another scope) to trace a signal applied to CH2? It should get through at least to Q1833 (CH2 Trigger signal) even if CH2 is not selected. --John Gord

Is your SG5030 head missing or do you have a bad one ? The reason for asking is if it is bad this might fix it: http://www.hakanh.com/dl/sghead.htm /H?kan

That's an easy one (once you found it!). Swing panel, middle pair of ceramic strips, between 2nd notches counted from the rear. Value rings brown-black-black-yellow. As far as I know the only way to
