Re: 453 trigger issues
Probably yes, but I need to know which model. Is it a 453 below serial 20,000, a 453 above serial 20,000, or a 453A? Dale H. Cook, GR/HP/Tek Collector, Roanoke/Lynchburg, VA

Re: 453 trigger issues
It would bear mentioning that a tunnel diode cannot be checked or tested like a conventional diode. Tunnel diodes can be damaged by such tests, -- Michael Lynch Dardanelle, AR

Re: 453 trigger issues
My 464 had similar problems. Because my TD¡¯s plug into sockets, I tried new tunnel diodes. I was careful to grip the leads with small long beak pliers, before bending the leads to align with the

Re: Removing the Adhesive From Hell
The water-based version of Goof Off (in the spray bottle) is good for this, better than Goo Gone. Be careful with it on painted surfaces, though, it tends to lighten the color a bit. Test it on an

Re: Tektronix 576 CRT replacement
Thanks a lot Eric for your kind offer. The 576 I got is actually quite beaten-up, there is some kind of black substance in it, like soot, as if it was rescued from a fire. It's close to being a basket

Re: Horizontal preamplifier
#chat-notice
It would help if you'd tell us what 'scope model you have and what you did to come to your conclusion. All kinds of things may be wrong. E.g. did you check the connections to the horizontal plates?

Great -- verifying supply voltages is a good first step. Next, trace signals as they progress through the trigger chain, perhaps following up on Harvey White's good suggestion. At some point, you'll

Re: 7k plugins fault finding outside scope?
Did that once when I was impatient, to smoke out a tantalum cap that had shorted out the -15V rail :-) To make a test jig like you suggest, I would just get a card-edge connector with solder lugs

It can be lots of things, of course. I am not a fan of the "random potshot" method of repair in general. The wear and tear on a pc board from unnecessary desoldering/soldering adds up. Also, TDs can
