Re: Tek 2235 power issue - A6RT901
Thank you all for providing those details so quickly. I will go home and double check the dimensions. I have added the pic to the photos section which highlights the defect.
The two Rifa 2200pF film caps were also badly cracked, but unfortunately my ESR70 meter does not measure at this rating. I have some replacement WIMA FKP1's to put in there.
My next step is to deal with the above and then check the 1amp rectifiers, unless there is anything else which is known cause for power issues on a 2235?
Thanks once again.

Hi Alex, I have a good 2235 A6 board that has been removed from a scope, and RT901 measures 15 Ohms in circuit. The component has no other markings (of use) other than "10 Ohm" (where Ohm is the Ohm symbol). The A6 schematic shows it as a "10 ohm" part as well. A look around the Mouser web site suggests that it might be called an "NTC thermistor". Look at this link: There are links to the datasheets for most of the thermistors, and I would guess that you could figure out the amperage backwards from the physical size of the RT901 you have. There is about 20 mm of vertical room under the plastic cover for the thermistor, but there is room to lay it over a bit to get some extra space. I would consider putting in the highest rated part there was the physical room for. From reading some of the data sheets, it looks like the thermistors have a resistance around 3k to 4k when they are hot. Perhaps one of the members will be able to add onto this story about thermistor characteristics. Your local suppliers should be able to help you once you figure out what you want. tom jobe...

Hi everyone,
I have just acquired this scope which was sold as not powering on. Once opened up I spotted that RT901 which sits on board A6 had a hole in it. I also measured it at 15ohms out of circuit.
According to the service manual this is a 100ohm thermal resistor, 10%, NTC. However, I am having problems finding a replacement in the UK. Is this part known under a different name?
I've taken a photo which I will add to the site.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

As you probably discovered by now, there was no TM502. There was only a TM502A.
All of the TM5xx mainframes are virtually identical in the most important respect – how power is provided to the plugins. They all use a classic transformer power supply. So if you have schematics for one TM5xx power supply almost everything will be similar in you TM502 except for the location of the parts and some parts values.
The TM5003 and TM5006 used switching power supplies to save weight so they are significantly different! .
And the TM5006 keeps my plugins running cooler! ;-) Mark

Re: 2465B SMT cap replacement
The 2465B?S/N >050000?A5 board has four SMT electrolytics that
are known to leak and cause damage to the SMT caps and resistors. If you select
"messages" and do a search for "2456B A5" it should bring up everything about
the problem. At least an hour of reading :).

I'm pretty sure this repair has been covered to death, but can someone tell
me how to find the descriptions? I have not been able to get into the archives

Is it acceptable to adjust the gain settings on a 2235 using an accurate DC signal or must one use an oscillating signal of some sort? The calibration status of my function generator is unknown but I have an accurate and finely adjustable DC supply. The adjustments seem to work well according to the procedure but when I check the deflection with various settings of the V/div switches and various input voltages using the same DC supply the results are not within spec for all switch positions.
|
I downloaded the Tektronix 7B51 manual and found that schematic page 6, the power supply, is missing and it appears to have just the information I need. It is on 11" X 17" format. If anyone has that page and can send me a copy I would appreciate it.

I'm looking at used 465 and 475 scopes. Apparently the 465's with serial numbers 250,000 and up are more desirable. Why is that? I've also read that the "later" serial number 475's are better. Later than what, and why? And does that apply to the 475A's as well? Should the lower serial number scopes be avoided? Thanks.
