Re: How to calibrate a frequency counter (on the cheap)
I only just recently acquired my first reciprocal and interpolating counter, a Racal-Dana 1992. Where can you find Thunderbolts for around $100? I suspect the big glut happened before I started

Re: How to calibrate a frequency counter (on the cheap)
That is how I have done it. On modern receivers using CW instead of USB or LSB will produce a 600 or other tone. You could also just use USB or LSB and tune the receiver 600 Hz off frequency. wrote:

Re: 2465b vertical issue
Make sure when buying a replacement that the manufacturer is "Tek" not "Maxtek". Later units (from around 1992) were produced in a new fab after Tek sold theirs. They are of inferior quality. Try and

Re: How to calibrate a frequency counter (on the cheap)
I just recently picked up a Racal Dana 1992 to rebuild which included the TCXO option and faced a similar dilemma. The 1992 is the only frequency counter I have with an external reference input and

Re: 468 triggering issue
Another suggestion: Set the SOURCE switch to LINE triggering, and with the vertical sensitivity cranked up pretty high (i.e., like 100 mV) on the channel that your probe's connected to, touch the

Re: 2465b vertical issue
Thanks for the info. Checked 3 and 4 and the issue is not present. Looks like a U400. B

Re: 2465b vertical issue
Forgot another very important thing: AFAIR, the issue is *not* present on Channels 3 and 4, if it's the Channel Select hybrid. Raymond

Re: 2465b vertical issue
Forgot: AFAIK, the Channel Switch problem usually produces symmetrical vertical compression. Since your 'scope seems to suffer only "below the belt", there may be hope... The compression that is

Re: 2465b vertical issue
There is a relatively frequent issue with the Channel Switch Hybrid (U400) in 2445's and 2465's. Replacement is the only option if it's the culprit. Sphere usually has it in stock but it isn't a cheap

Re: 7B92 No Auto trigger
Pin 6 goes high when auto with no trigger is selected, so that appears to be fine. I've traced it as far as the sweep gate signal going to pin 3 of U380. From there it gets complicated because things

Oh, also. Use great caution around those pins and don't force anything. If you crack the glass, you will be out a tube. Tom

Re: 2465b vertical issue
Maybe one of the vertical deflection plate leads has disconnected from the tube? On the vertical, there are four connections to the plates, two on the bottom and two on the top. Tom
