Re: Another new file

Oh, 2732 will work, just make sure that un-used address bit (A11, pin 21) is
nailed down, so that it is lower half of PROM that is read. As for 2764,
that is a different proposition because it is 28 pin DIP (four pins more
than 2716 or 2732), but doing a jerry rig to translate pins would make it
usable.

You have also to watch programing voltage. Some of early PROMs used 21V,
then came 15 V, then 12 V. You can program 12V device on 15V programmer
setting, but there is no promise that device will not be damaged.

Another consideration is speed, but as densities went up, so did the speed.
If PCB is poorly decoupled, higher speed might work against you, but that is
not very likely to happen.

With thanks to 'Greyhawk,' a pair of firmware image files for the 7B90P
programmable timebase are now available. Note that these images are 2048
byte, meaning that they were most likely designed to program into a 2716.
Considering that 2716's may be pretty hard to find, advice on whether
they'll work in a 2732 or even a 2764 would be welcome.

Keep the peace(es).

OK, if you haven't caught on to this tip yet:

I have a favorite eBay search for (Techtronics, Tektronics,
Techtronix). These listings tend to go for less, since a lot of
potential buyers fail to search for mispellings. ;)

P.S. They also forget to search for misspellings. :)

I once saw a list composed by the Tektronix mail room of all the various
ways "Tektronix" had been spelled on letters that still made to the company.
Unfortunately, I did not keep a copy of it. I just laughed a lot! There
are at least 30 ways to misspell it.

7000 series PI interface

Craig Sawyers

Hi all

I'm building up a pair of flexible extenders for the 7000 series (because
the price is stratospheric on eBay), and was wondering why all but three
connections are made end to end when so few seem to be used by any one
plug-in.

Starting from the list on Mark Kahrs site, which has a lot of connections
listed as not used, I've built up a more complete picture. Most of the
seemingly not used connections are used for the GPIB interface for the
programmable plug-ins (7A16P, 7A29P and 7B90P), and for additional
+5.1V/-5.2V supplies.

Anyway, if anyone would like a copy of the file (Excel) let me know and I'll
pass it on.

Cheers

Craig

phillips scopes???

Just given a solid state Phillips scope - good condx EXCEPT none of the
half-turn dzus type quick release fasteners that fasten the cabinet top and
bottom to the scope chassis work. The screw heads turn, but they don't
"grab" on anything...

If anybody on the list has any experience with Phillips scopes pls contact
me off-line...

Hello Christian,
Someone said that you worked on car kits. I understand that is enough of a
punishment, you did not have to take on hp 1740A, you paid your dues with
kits. hp 1740 will give you good excercise in setting trigger level, somehow
that thing always wanders around.

I am looking for all valve scope next. Since I am doing a lot of
work with high voltage power supplies and believe that valve
technology it a bit more tolerant than the modern stuff. I was
reading about the comments on lethality of high voltage. I used to
work on laser scanning systems but now in the rail industry. I often
worked on 15Kv and 450 Volts Dc. Don't get much chance of the MCB
tripping either since its rated a 44k Amp.

Best regards Christian.

Many Thanks Fred

Christian

Dear Fred

Thanks to you and the other members for the good advice. No need to
worry I have not been offended by the comments and am glad of the
correction. I have also corrected the spelling on the web site.

I have never used a Tek scope before. They were always out of my
price range when I was younger. So I had to make do with a
telequipment. I have a 100Mhz Hewlet Packard 1740A and one of the
new Fluke Digital combi scopes. I really don't like the Fluke
digital scope its for ever trying to be helpful by changing ranges,
but usually gets it wrong.

I am looking for all valve scope next. Since I am doing a lot of

Cut the guy some slack, OK?

Re: For your consideration

Craig Sawyers

I agree with Craig. Don't be such snobs..
I think the key point is this - there are 1062 members currently on the
Tekscopes list. Whenever posting something, it is important to ask this
question - "If I was actually standing on a stage in front of an auditorium
with over 1000 people from all nations in front of me - would I actually say
this?".

If the answer is "no way" it is time to keep ones mouth firmly shut.

And yes - if anyone has missed the point, I feel very strongly about this.
