Re: OT: Artek Manuals "Distro"?
I would be interested to know the story behind Artek Distro; I also believe
that it is a legitimate company; I do NOT know if it is related to ArTek media. ISTR ArTek media was located in Texas before being moved to Florida; maybe it moved back to Texas? I dunno. I suspect the "distro" is legit, is run by a list member, and they'll chime
in shortly to explain. But I don't know these as facts, so I'll hold my tongue so as not to muddy the waters. Dave Casey On Tue, Jan 7, 2025, 1:10 PM Dave Daniel via groups.io <kc0wjn= [email protected]> wrote: ArTek manuals (artekmanuals.com) is located in Florida. Artek Distro |
Re: OT: Artek Manuals "Distro"?
ArTek manuals (artekmanuals.com) is located in Florida. Artek Distro
appears to be a completely different vendor and an ebay seller which sells lots of random electronic equipment. I personally would continue to buy manuals from artekmanuals.com, mostly because I personally knew Dave Henderson, value the quality of and respected his work and honor his legacy. FYI Pre-accouncement: Private Sale of large quantities of Tektronix 5000/5400 series oscilloscopes, plugins, Tek 7704A, plug-ins and HP equipment later this year
Good day to the group,
I trust everybody has made it well into the New Year. This is a pre-announcement, if you allow, please. I am located in Germany as most of you are aware. So this is very likely only interesting for group members located in Germany or the EU. * I will scale down and I plan to sell most if not all of my inventory of old T&M equipment this year. * I plan to sell most of my Tektronix 5000 series oscilloscopes, plugins, Tek 7704A and some plug-ins. * Also, some HP equipment, HP141A mainframe, some plugins, a HP 8443A tracking generator etc. * And related service and instruction manuals in paper form. * This will include dozens of Tektronix 5000 plugins incl. type 5A14N, 5A20N, 5A21N, 5A22N, 5A23N amplifiers, the timebases 5B12N, 5B10N, a few 5000 series mainframes, 5440/5441 mainframes and a few 5400 series plugins, and a functional 7704A mainframe with plugins. I intend to provide a complete list by early summer. * I plan to sell this on the "Test-Equipment-For-Sale-Wanted-or-Exchange.groups.io" - but please feel free to reach out to me if you are already interested in purchasing several components or even the whole lot. magnustoelle //@// yahoo.com * I have no false illusions here. I am realistic about the price level of this vintage equipment, so my ask pricing will be low. * I have had a great time repairing and collecting these items, and I will be forever very graceful that this hobby has allowed me to getting to know great people around the globe. But it's time to move on for me. Thanks for bandwidth and kind regards, Magnus |
OT: Artek Manuals "Distro"?
I came across an ebay store named "Artek Manuals Distro", selling Artek CDs and test equipment. Located in McKinney, Texas. Weren't they based in Florida before?
Is that a copycat or a legitimate Artek store? And if the former, do they have a license to Artek's name and scans? |
Re: Burned diode on CRT driver board CSA803A
Hi Evan,
No need to open up your scope. From other group members, I have received additional information. The driver circuit of the line transformer is very close to the one used in the 11401/11402. This shows that the diode is a fast switching Si diode (600V, 3A). In the coming days I will replace the diode and hopefully this solves the problem. Kind regards, Gerard |

Hi Gerard,
Since you have the 11403A do you need me to open one of mine up to take photos and try to ID parts? -Evan On Mon, Jan 6, 2025 at 1:42?PM gjm45janssen via groups.io <g.j.m.janssen@...> wrote:

Re: 7904 pre-260000 PSU crackling
Jon, Ed, Mark and everyone else, thank you so much! I had to go to work today, an "occupational hazard".
Tonight I clarified a couple of things. The neon stays on for a good 30 seconds, but I need a dark place to see it in, so my bad that I didn't see it before, apologies. Second, the noise comes from the middle of the PSU. I'd love to say from the trafo or the caps but it's too tight in there to tell, definitely in there. Sounds like both ends of the unit. Sorry for the lack of certainty. Voltages say tight, the ripple is of variable frequency across voltages if that matters, this with a vertical and horizontal unit inserted. There are snaps, crackles, and pops from the hv cable when wiggled so this needs further cleaning as well, but it sounds different. |

I understand. I plan to pursue those relays on my own but just wanted to ask just in case. I'm still interested in getting a few of your boards as I have two 7A13s and I think the 7A12 also uses some of those types as well. Thanks again, Barry - N4BUQ Hi Barry, |
Re: Tek T-130 LC - add mains/EMC filter or not?
Over the years I have heard that the meter scales on certain HP gear were custom ruled as part of initial calibration, so specific to the individual instrument, but I have no idea of which ones are this way. I don't know if any Tek ones are, but I doubt it. If anyone gets to a point where they need to take a meter apart for repair, it's a good idea to take an accurate picture or flatbed scan of the face just in case, for future reference and use.

Re: Burned diode on CRT driver board CSA803A
Hi Evan,
Thanks for replying. The CSA803A has a color display. I have put some pictures of the A8 video driver board in the photo album under: /g/TekScopes/photo/299921/3873248?p=Created%2C%2C%2C20%2C2%2C0%2C0 I realized that my 11403A has the same A8 video driver board. Fortunately, I could make a picture of this diode without removing the board (Pic4 in the album). It is a glass diode with thick wires and a white ring at the kathode and partial identification "H-7". Kind regards, Gerard |

Re: Adapter PCBs for 148-003x-00 relay replacement
Hi Barry,
sorry for the confusion regarding the 148-0063-00. I didn't know the part number and just googled the part. From the pictures I found I thought it was just as simple DPDT relay (like 148-0034-00) with an additional internal connection. As it turns out, this is not the case. It might be possible to build an PCB adapter for this one as well. But as it is only used in the 7A12 and nowhere else it might not be feasible to go through this effort. Bye, Wolfgang |
Re: Tek T-130 LC - add mains/EMC filter or not?
When I started working on mine, I found that bits of the meter scale were flaking off; so, I made an accurate photo of it. (I have a fairly good digital macrophotography setup). If the scale gets bad enough to need replacement, I'll edit out the bad parts of the photo
with gimp or photoshop (for Windows users), and print out a new high quality scale with a photo printer. |
Re: Tek T-130 LC - add mains/EMC filter or not?
Wow - I had spotted my scale is non-linear but had not appreciated that they were individual to the meter.
When you say 'meter' do you mean one scale for that particular range of meters as used in that piece of equipment, or do you mean individual to each meter and/or each piece of equipment? I too need to re-do mine - the red has almost gone. |
