Re: 7854 vertical amplifier
Solid BeO is not dangerous. The only dangerous form is BeO powder (dust); as long as you don't grind BeO, you're safe. Ages ago, BeO microspheres were developed as a safe form of BeO for incorporation

Re: 7854 vertical amplifier
Miguel,
Sorry, it can't be fixed. Don't open it either, hybrids like this sometimes contain BeO, which may or may not be indicated on the cover.

Re: Tektronix 475
Is there hv on the tube?
Do you see the heater glowing?
Measure the DC supplies with a scope, should be flat (-ish), no noticeable ripple.

Re: 7L13 Works! Interested in a TR502
Haven't seen these for a while now.
I recall... even used...they were pricey... everyone "needed'' a TG.
And you need an external counter... to 1.8 GHz... which isn't cheap either.
AFAIK... nothing

Re: Tektronix 475
Check the three transistors and IC associated with the 50V supply. One or more could be open/leaky/shorted. The series pass would be the first to check. Check to see if you have the 9V across VR1416

Re: NVRAM back-up battery change on a 2715..... avoiding disasters
Dears,
I got a 2715 with battery down. Do you have an idea where I can recover the elusive "271X Flatness Tests" software?
Are you so kindly to send me it?
Thank you very much in advance for any help

Tektronix 475
Hi everyone, I¡¯m starting with oscilloscopes and electronics. I got a Tektronix 475 that I would like to repair for my lab. It turns on but unfortunately I have no trace...I tested the voltages.

Re: 7704A PS - Rapid Tick Mode
Thanks, Tom. This scope has had a bad case of that curse. One tantalum went up in flames and two more smoked pretty significantly. This one just shorted with no glorious demise. There are still

Re: 7704A PS - Rapid Tick Mode
Bad tantalum, C3396, on the OUTPUT SIGNALS board. Replaced C3395 and C3396 and all is working again.

Re: 7704A PS - Rapid Tick Mode
Thanks, Jean-Paul, Mark, and Tom,
The relaxation oscillator I was referring to is the one that makes the neon flash which is comprised of R3019-C3019-DS3019.
I was originally writing the above email

Re: 7704A PS - Rapid Tick Mode
Barry,
A few things that could cause the fast ticking are: one/both transistors from the 0067 IC to the driver transformer bad, the 9V zener to the 0067 open, the two 1mfd filters from the small

Re: 7704A PS - Rapid Tick Mode
When there is an overload, the PS shuts down and tries again a bit later. Each tick is the sound made by the magnetics as current starts to flow then shuts off. No master oscillator drives the tick

7704A PS - Rapid Tick Mode
I powered up one of my 7704As which worked fine the last time I used it several months ago. This time it worked for about 30 seconds and stopped with the power supply going into a rapid tick mode

Re: Tek 453 display
I ground a slight taper on the top of the posts with a tapered Dremel grinding wheel. I vacuumed the cavity and then blew it out at low pressure with an air hose. I remember the HVPS it came out

Re: Tek 453 display
There are dozens of Dremel tool accessories, and other manufacturers have made accessories which can be used with a Dremel tool. I own 25 grinding accessories for my Dremel tool, mostly aluminum oxide
