WM 490 mixers on e bay - any good or all fried?

What are the odds that ebay external mixers are all bad and unrepairable? I guess what I'm asking is what the failure modes would be. Looking around a bit to figure if I want to jump up to microwaves. Its just for retirement/hobby stuff at 24G.

Grease for the VOLTS/DIV and the SEC/DIV Controls on TDS Series 310, 320, 340, 350, 382, 420, 430

I am cleaning up the Front Control PCB (A4 Front Panel Board) on a TAS465.
TDS Series 310, 320, 340, 350, 382, 420, 430 use the same type of PCB Printed Control. I believe all of TEK Scopes during the 90's era used the same design.

The Controls are a Simple Wiper that makes contact with carbon element pads on the PCB.
Tek had some sort of original Black grease to lube the rotation of the Wipers.
What type of grease should I apply to the Carbon Element Pads to Lube the Wipers?

I have the following:
GC Electronics Conductive Grease
Silicon Grease (Food Grade)
CRC Bulb & Connector Di-Electric Grease
CRC 2-26 Multi-Purpose Precision Lubricant

Thank you!

I have models 011, 012, 013 and 311 (never tried them), but I might already have a manual somewhere.? I'll have to do some searching.

Re: FS: instruction manual for Nelson-Ross spectrum analyzer plug-ins

Bill and Brad,

I might be interested, depending which exact plug-ins Bill has. I only have a 500-series scope, not a 560-series.

Bill, do you remember which model plug-ins you have?

thanks

Re: FS: instruction manual for Nelson-Ross spectrum analyzer plug-ins

Interesting! Many, many years ago I picked up two different versions of those plug ins. Being an audio engineer.?? But I moved the Tek mainframe along before ever trying them out. They are a bit dirty now but if anyone would like the two for shipping cost and a couple bucks for cats let me know.?? I will dig them out and find out the model numbers. Thanks,Bill

Missing Guitar Player Magazine, November 2019.

I am sorry that this is rather off-topic, but I have tried almost everywhere else with no luck at all. I suppose that since the time was at the beginning of the pandemic, I shouldn't be surprised, but despite a subscription, I have no copy of Guitar Player of November 2019. This copy should have a picture of Warren Haynes on the front. On the occasion when some kind soul might just have a copy that they don't want at a reasonable price, bearing in mind that I live in London, UK, I would be interested. TIA.

Colin.

Re: Tektronix 576 CRT replacement

Jan, I also still have the tubes and they both still work they are just VERY
high hour let me know if you are interested. One is extremely dim the other
is dim but readable and double peaking using a 3d printed viewer it might be
usable. Not idea but It might get the instrument off the ground.

That's the 577 that shares the crt with the 5000 series. With the 576 you
have to find one. Nobody's come up with an LCD replacement (yet) but I
would expect to see something eventually.

Re: Tektronix 576 CRT replacement

The CRT in the 576 as far as I know is unique to the instrument. However if
you find one that is a soutable match please let me know I have 2 in the lab
that need CRT's and one that needs a HV transformer. I have a few ideas on
the old HV transformer that I would like to try as well. As I still have the
leaky one on hand.

Re: attach a file

Many here use an email interface to read messages and some have slow download speeds. Having to download attachments would be undesirable. Your best bet is to upload the image, as Jeff said, and view it to get its address and copy that address (URL) into your message text. That way people can click on it for viewing without being forced to. You don't even need to do the upload if you already have it accesible to the web, just use that address.
I think it is possible to add an image inline very easily, if you know rudimentary html, but that would circumvent the apparent attachments enabled/disabled setting for the group and really make a lot of email users unhappy. I don't dare even test it to see if it would be post-processed out. <emoji here...also undesirable>
Just a link to a pic is a very good compromise.

Re: Tektronix 576 CRT replacement

The 576 CRT (154-0563-00, or -01, or -05) is unique to that instrument.

The RPR doesn't show it being used in anything else.

Re: TM500 tester switch - Attn. Jared Cabot.

The oddity is that the serial number printed on the Grayhill switch is 71BDF30-02-2-AJN just as yours, so why didn't Digi-key include the extra parts, or did I manage to lose them? (I don't think so).

I have now bought the correct stop pins and sticker from Digi-Key which were just a few pennies, though the postage was a bit on the expensive side.

I used to have a message that suggested that Digi-Key had an excellent customer service, but (1) I couldn't be bothered with fiddling about with costs when I could get the parts I needed even if they cost me a bit and (2) I couldn't find the message referring to Digi-Key customer service anyway and I live in London, England so it would have cost someone the shipping costs.

that was recommended for the tester. The stop pins are shown on page 11. <

Colin,

I purchased the parts for this project from Mouser in January of this
year. The Grayhill switch we are discussing arrived packed a plastic tube
and included the pins, stickers and paper instructions for configuring it.

Re: 577 D2 Display Issues

Have you checked the IC sockets? Most 577s were built with Texas
Instruments edge contact DIP sockets that proved unreliable and were later
replaced. If re-seating any of the IC's makes a difference, it might be
time to swap the sockets in your 577.

It took about 30 minutes of prying around the rubber gasket to free the
'577 tube. I broke the gasket
too. On the other hand the 5110 tube came out very easily. On swapping
it I get a pretty stable display
now.

After running through the calibration procedures, I used it to measure the
beta of a 2N4403 at
185, which seems pretty reasonable (once I realized the lamp behind the
step knob is
burned out - initially I was worried it was indicating 1850).

The only issue left is when the number of steps is even, the step waveform
is very steady. When
odd (and >= 5), it shimmers vertically quite a bit. Something odd in the
step generator board up next I
guess.
