Re: 549 transformer question
Jim Ford suggested sine wave drive.
I think, How about a shaft coupling made of elastic material with damping??
Oh, now that I read ahead I see you're already thinking about it.
I am eager to hear

Re: 7904: odd readout issue + vertical gain issue
Hi Sean,
A bit of drift shouldn't be a big problem if both resistors in a pair do it
by the same amount ¡ª it's when one differs from the other that you'll get
the trace shifting up or down. But

Re: 549 transformer question
I don't want to gloat or anything, but I had my 547 transformer rewound by Bill almost 20 years ago IIRC. It's been flawless, I even put back the 5642 rectifier tubes so it works at load.

Jon,
Static precautions need to be followed when handling. I¡¯ve heard about cleaning the hybrid mating surfaces with the iso alcohol, but personally never done it to solve any issue. Why would you

Re: [dead tek 485] Can i fix it ? (newbie here)
Hi Jose,
Because of your work, I found that in my 485 the Pos potmeters (all three) are dirty, that's why I opened mine.
Tomorrow morning I will check the voltage on C1660 and report back to you

Re: 549 transformer question
Hi All,
A document explaining how Tektronix wound their transformers (including the HV ones with the specific machine used) can be found here:

Re: 7904: odd readout issue + vertical gain issue
Thanks everyone. I think Nick here found the winner. R670 and 672 have both drifted over 5 ohms on both vertical amps I have. I'll try replacing those two first.

It might have been for TDR, or for RADAR ... as an alternative to tunnel diode based pulse generators. (Tunnel diode based pulse generators.. the patents show up circa 1950... whilst transistor based

Re: Tek 2235 with long persistence orange screen and unknown opt 76
The Keller book (rev.1991, pg 17) indeed describes the exact technique as used in my scope, even the amber filter.
I wonder what P7 does to the writing speed. At 50 Hz trigger and 100ns/div the trace

Re: 2465B hybrid cleaning?
Dear Chuck: Great advise again! Will try with ISO Alcohol, and order the Deoxit liquid.
By the way, Amazon has some 99% isopropyl alcohol in gallons or as smaller bottles, ~ 25-30$/gallon.

Jose,
I am not that familiar with the inside of a 485 as mine is purring along just fine. I am still interested in anything that relates to the 485, none the less.
One thing that I know about the

Re: 2465B hybrid cleaning?
IPA should be fine, use cotton swab with a little
gentle rubbing on the hybrid side, and wiping the
contact springs towards their open ends, on the
socket side.

Re: 2235 Horizontal Calibration Issue

You are right. My schematic scan is so fuzzy I can't tell the last number but part list is much cleaner and it is actually VR749.
VR749 is the suspected zener diode. Before removing it I
