Re: Tektronix 577 Regular board capacitor question
I haven't opened up a 577, but those are likely the typical Sprague capacitors

used by Tektronix in that era. They may still be good; I'd check them with a good capacitor and esr meter before removing them. If you need to replace them, the neatest repair is one I use in 4xx and 7K scopes - use a small carrier board to mate the footprint to a commonly available snapcap. This provides the jumpers that Tek used and the footprint for the new cap. Use 105C caps as replacements. You can find these on ebay and there are gerbers floating around if you want to send them to a board house yourself. You can also etch them yourself of course. Some purists might restuff the cans with a new snapcap. Paul On Fri, Aug 09, 2019 at 07:15:33AM -0700, DW wrote:

Tektronix 577 Regular board capacitor question
I decided I would replace the electrolytic on the regulator board as I noticed the capacitors appear quite old.
On removing the board and looking at some of the radial style capacitors I noticed they are not your standard capacitors. The bigger capacitors have 4 metal feet towards the rim that seem to serve two purposes, hold the capacitor in place and serve as a electrical connection. And then there is a a 5th connector towards the middle. I am thinking if I replace these I will need to come up with some kind of retrofit unless they stock similar capacitors like these. And thoughts? Thanks |
Scopes to Sell
I am ready to part with the following:
TDS520D Oscilloscope with options 1F, 2M, 2F, and 2C. Passes all self tests and SPC. Bright monochrome CRT. Has some screen burn but it's really only obvious on screens without the graticule. $400. 7L5 Spectrum Analyzer and 7603 Mainframe. Analyzer has L3 input module, optional tracking generator, and optional front panel readout. It suffered shipping damage at one point that has largely been repaired, the exception being some of the plastic pieces that hold the front panel to the plug in chassis. It's not falling apart, but should be handled with care. Neither the plugin nor the mainframe have been powered up recently, so will need to do some checkout if there's interest. Mainframe has not been re-capped (and ripple has not been measured). $400 assuming I can verify basic functionality. Won't be testing the front panel readout as I don't have a non-readout mainframe. 7L18 Spectrum Analyzer and 7603 Mainframe. Mainframe has option 6, internal spectrum analyzer graticule on the CRT. Neither the plugin nor the mainframe have been powered up recently, so will need to do some checkout if there's interest. Mainframe has not been re-capped (and ripple has not been measured). $400 assuming I can verify basic functionality. Happy to pair either mainframe with either analyzer for those who do/don't want the internal graticule. All scopes are in the Dallas, TX area and are priced for local sale and for TekScopes members. Not dying to find boxes for these, especially the 7603s. If there's not enough interest here, they'll end up on eBay at slightly higher listing prices to account for eBay fees and the hassle of having to ship them. Definitely not interested in shipping these internationally. Please inquire off list for any further details/pictures/test results/etc. Offered as first come, first served with special consideration given to local pickup/delivery. (I think we'd all be happiest if our gear didn't have to be packed up and subjected to shipping carriers.) Regards, Dave Casey |
Re: Does anyone have any info on the 2466B scope?
Can you take some pictures? Thanks for the info!

Ok, so after digging through some Russian forums with Google translate, it seems it is likely to be an Asian (Japanese?) model customised to be a hybrid 2465/2467.
It seems to have a different tube that isn't MCP like in the 2467, but is brighter than the standard CRT in the 2465. Apparently it's something Sony used to do sometimes. This one has a smaller screen size and it's also run at a higher cathode voltage to get the increased brightness for taking photos more easily it seems. |
Re: Does anyone have any info on the 2466B scope?
It can be 400 Mhz and 4 channels (mine is 2465 DMS it is the same but 300
Mhz ) You can find manuals: but must pay. Here are free: /g/TekScopes Info for your 266B: This is a nice page full of info: Serice Manual: Let me know if you like more info, or go here: Tony On Thu, Aug 8, 2019 at 11:33 AM Jared Cabot via Groups.Io <jaredcabot= [email protected]> wrote: Hi all. |
Is an early 7A26 a keeper?
John Griessen
I was getting some extra 7A26's ready to sell, and came across 7A26 B154366,
which is an early one with the familiar aluminum isothermal clamp blocks for transistors in cans. Is that just as good as a late model if it has mostly metal film resistors? Is it worth keeping for repairability? I see little failure in 7A26's... tear drop tantalums, scratchy knobs, stiff knobs, and dust under the attenuator contacts. Keep or sell/toss? P.S. I've got an attic that needs to be cleaned out in preparation for moving to Albuquerque, and a server that can show you pictures of it's box contents. Email me if interested in browsing that web server. |

I didn¡¯t get the picture? I have a 2465 BDM and not 2465 DMS of which I know nothing. My serial number is on the front of the scope. larry On Aug 8, 2019, at 8:32 PM, Tony Fleming <czecht@...> wrote: |

Great! Congratulations to you and your "new scope"!
Where is this serial number on your scope? I have 2465 DMS and it comes with some extras in the back, but I can't find the serial number there. I'll include a picture what I see on the back of my scope. Thanks and good luck! Tony [image: 20190808_153518.jpg] On Thu, Aug 8, 2019 at 3:11 PM Lawrance A. At 78 dollars, seems like a goo buy just for the parts.

Re: Does anyone have any info on the 2466B scope?
Yeah, I think it might be an Asia specific model (It is being sold here in Japan), but information seems really scarce, I 'm not too keen on buying an unknown with no service info (Although, it's probably 90% functionally identical to a 2465)
It is definitely a 2466B as per the front label, and looks the same as a 2467B, but with a black surround around the CRT that appears slightly smaller than a 2465 CRT. Here's the listing with some average quality photos. I just want to figure out if this one is worth taking a punt on, or if I should just wait for a 2467B to pop up. I like the idea of that special CRT in the 2467B. :) |

The case comes off with 8 torx screws through the feet, and two through the back panel...above and below the plug. After the back is removed, the case slides off of the back. You have to watch a couple of cables and spring clips when you slide the case back on. Don't get aggressive tightening the screws in the plastic panel. Since your serial number is in the B014 range, A5 capacitor electrolyte leakage should not be a problem. Most power supplies will have at least one bad capacitor, typically the inverter filter for the -15V supply. Its total failure doesn't cause much, if any, damage. Enjoy your scope. -Chuck Harris Lawrance A. Schneider wrote: Thank you Chuck; Very bright and sharp - no halo. Fastest speed is 5 nano - at that speed, trace is easy to see.
