manuals needed for DSA602

reteb1

Hi all,

I am new to this group.
This week my DSA602 will arrive and I need a bit of your help.

I need some manuals.
I got the tip to ask on this list for help of Dave DiGiacomo for
DSA602 manuals (*).
Could someone reference me to Dave ?
Or could someone help me or reference me to other manual sources ?
I searched in vain in the archive.

I am told this DSDA602 is a great gear, but it seems strictly
compulsory te use the manuals to enjoy this DSA's full power.
In particular to have the DSA computer controlled thru IEEE 488.

Thanks,
Peter, PE1ECM

Re: Recommendations?

Denis Cobley

I would recommend the 2235.
Cheap, reliable, easy to use and repair if needed.

I am looking for a good reliable used Tek scope to learn on and use
for amateur radio repairs. I see many up for sale on eBay and would
welcome any advice on which I should consider, and which should be
avoided due to common problems, or inavailability of parts. I would
like to spend up to $200, but would possibly consider going as high
as $350 if there is a compelling reason to do so. Thanks in advance
for your advice and counsel.

I would say, it came after TI fixed flux wicking.

Gosh, after two tinnies of Foster's Lager,I certainly cant say that
correctly!!!! :-)

Re: 7D20 RAMS

I had something similar with my 7D01, except that RAMs were from even lower
layer of Pleistocene, they were 1 K capacity. Surprisingly, I was able to
find RAMs at the local junker store and price was not too unreasonable.

It is interesting that sequence of fixing resembled closely what Fred
described: first replacement did not work, but second chip did. Then, I put
back the original chip and that worked, so I concluded that problem was with
those 'low bidder' sockets that Tektronix' accountants liked to buy for
instruments that had lot of DIPs. The sockets looked like infamous TI
products, but judging from age of the plug-in, I would say, it came after TI
fixed flux wicking.

Subject: [TekScopes] 7D20 RAMS

Hi All,

Today I fixed my 7D20, it had come up with an error, (fail 531). A
closer look in the manual pointed to U710, a dynamic RAM (4116) from
the prehistoric ages.

All RAMS on the memory board where from ITT, date code 8232 and 8237
and had also a white 'TEK' marking.

I replaced the bad chip with one from a scrap TEK 9100 logic
analyser, also an ITT chip, and made me wonder, because this chip
gave me exactly the same error.... So was it perhaps something else ?
However a 9100 has 16 4116 so I took an other one, this time an NEC
one with a white TEK marking... And this seemed to be working fine.

This made me curious and I started to test them all. I found three
other ITT chips which were bad, non of the NEC or Mostek chips
failed.

Could it be that the ITT chips are of inferior quality, or is the
chip OK and is this a timing problem in the design of th 7D20 ?. I
must say, that the scrap 9100 was also failing due to a bad uP
board, the cause is still unknown.

Here are the error codes and their chips associated in case you have
a similar issue with the RAMS.

4116 RAMs did not have completely standard refresh requirements. The RAMs that fail probably need to work with a different refresh controller.

1L5 on eBay

Craig Sawyers

I seem to remember that someone was looking for a 1L5 a while back. There's
one on eBay at the moment - 3800914707, a little grubby and missing a knob,
but it might be OK.

Texas swap meets?

Darrin Conniff

Hello,
I am sending this in hopes that a fellow Texan in the group may know of any swap meets. Preferrably near San Antonio or Austin, even Dallas. All I can find here in San Antonio are "flea markets" where the most "high tech" devices sold are statues of Buddha. Although I think Buddha is kinda cool, I am looking for Tek equipment.
The worst part is that I found a federal & state surplus outlet 3 miles from my house that has 'scopes for $20-$80.00. But they are sold only to other agencies, or some types of non-profit groups. Please! Does anyone know of a place or annual event, anything? I will drive 300 miles, if needed.
Thanks in advance,
Darrin

Re: Tek 570 missing 7 pin tube adapter.....

Was the fire set by disgruntled customers?
<grin>. I was wrong about the number of XKSS's though - there were 16 made
before the fire - and they tend to go for around $1m on the rare occasion
that one comes up for sale.

Still in my view one of the most beautiful cars of all time; there are some
good shots here

And just so you know that I'm not a single marque guy, another all-time
favourite of mine is Carroll Shelby's original Cobra. Astonishingly, he's
still around, and still making superb cars - .

Re: Recommendations?

John,
Since this will be your first and only scope, for a while, try to
get a scope from a seller willing to say it was thoroughly checked
out. Most eBay scopes have problems - great for me, since I like
fixing them. Bad for you. And these scopes have many functions
that you will eventually want to learn to use. A scope shown
displaying a signal may still have many problems.

A scope guaranteed to be in decent condition will probably (SWAG
alert) cost 50% to 100% more than a scope that "powers up and
displays a signal". Fixer-upper/parts scopes are for fools like me.

Unless you are dealing with freqs over 50 MHz, most the old Tek
analog scopes will do you well. Larger screens are nice, but not as
important for you as guaranteed workability. Newer scopes will
usually have fewer aging problems and larger screens, but their
prices go up rapidly while actually providing few new operational
features.

In other words, I would place condition above the actual model type
for your purposes.

Good luck.

Wow - a Tek 570! You're a lucky chap to have one of these in the first
place. Consider the statistics - I've heard it said that ony 2000 of
these
units were originally made. Lets assume that 10% of these haven't ended
up
in the crusher in the last 50 years - that means that there are only 200
(or
fewer) left in the world.

Now what is the chance of being able to find a spare adaptor?

It is a bit like finding an original spare for a C-type or D-type Jaguar,

were made before Jag's factory burned down in a fire in 1957. Not
dissimilar rarity, or vintage, to the 570.
