Re: 2465B Display issues..................
Tom Miller
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi David,
?
Your measurements look ok to me. Did you go through the DAC
adjustment procedure?
?
See attached. You want the voltage difference between the
+1.25 and - 1.25 to be exactly 2.500 volts.
?
So, at first, set the -1.36 to -1.2504 then check them both.
Allow a 20 minute warm-up with a fan blowing
on the main board hybrids.

Re: 2465B Display issues..................

Hello All,
I am hoping someone with either experience on this A5 Board problem can help or someone with a 2465B can give me actual readings in circuit that might be able to shed some light on the topic. My 2465B Ser No. B053XXX with an SMD A5 Board info is as follows with all info pulled in circuit: -1.36 varies between 1.0431 and 1.34 ish +1.25 is steady at 1.2496 Top of R2016(1.0k) is 9.999V and the bottom is 8.981V. Resistance is 0.977k Top of R2013(10.0k) is 8.981V and the bottom is 156.95mV. Resistance is 7.12k Top of R2012(10.0k) is 154.41mV and the bottom is 0.0V. Resistance is 7.76k Top of R2011(4.75k) is 8.981V and the bottom is 8.336V. Resistance is 4.438k Top of R2014(221k) is 8.336V and the bottom is 0.3555V. Resistance is 14.11k Left side of R2015(82.5) is 8.336V and the right side is 156.94mV. Resistance is 10.6k I am clearly not an engineer and could use any help offered. Cheers, David |

New 7xxx readout board
EB4APL
I think that somebody recently mentioned a "new type" readout board, microprocessor based, even I think he attached a picture or a link to it. I think that he mentioned that his manual has not the info about his board.
I tried searching the archives but I was unable to find anything. Was I dreaming or was it real? Ignacio |

Re: Taps and setscrews
Whatever you get, make sure to get plug or bottoming taps too, not just starter taps as you may see in some sets. For knobs and blind holes you won't have much clearance behind the threads.

Way OT - I vowed never to buy another Craftsman power tool. Thirty years ago I bought a cheap Black & Decker circular saw at Kmart for $30 on sale, used it successfully on lots of lumber projects, and then put an abrasive blade on it to cut steel stock and car body panels, etc., but the plastic blade guard started to melt through. I lined it with copper sheeting and continued to use it that way for many years. A few years later I treated myself to a nice new $100 Craftsman saw, but didn't get around to using it seriously until a year later, at which time it blew its bearings and seized up after only a few lumber cuts - of course just past warranty. Sears would not exchange it, and I was out of luck. I continued to use the old B&D for many years, building several decks, various remodeling projects, and cutting countless pieces of steel. About ten years ago I got a new Makita, and retired the B&D to to its final duty as a concrete saw - sans blade guard, which finally fell apart. It has since then sat outside many months in the rain, and cut through about a hundred linear feet of rock and concrete. It just keeps going and going, even though its bearings have long ago disintegrated internally, it's covered with rust, and full of dirt and grit. I have had no problems with Craftsman hand tools, but I haven't bought any for quite a few years, so don't know what they're like now. I still exchange worn out screwdrivers there - at least they honor that. I figure they still owe me a lot of screwdrivers to compensate for that saw. Hakan,
The way things are going we will need to know if you will contribute your fiche by morning in the US. ?But seriously, this group of people NEVER ceases to amaze me. ?Truly astounding response folks. ?We are half way there and just need to double the contributions that have already come in. ?Lets try and get this done sooner than later. ?This is going to be the most useful conversion yet. Thank you for all your support. ?As soon as we get all the contribution commitments I will get this off to the conversion folks. Cheers, David

A 6-32 & a 4-40 tap should cover most of your needs. If you already bought a set you should have a T-handle wrench. Plug & bottoming style taps work where you don't have much length beyond the end of the threads. Taper style will need more length than you can get in a knob. McMaster, as mentioned before, is a good source. So is Enco if you stick with US-made tooling. I've bought lots of stuff from Enco. Hardened cup-point setscrews are pretty cheap by the box, same sources. HTH, -ls- |

Again thanks for the nice response. One of the
great challenges one has with this equipment is sourcing replacement parts, and
in the case of high voltage components it's a big challenge. This morning I was
searching the internet and came across otelectronics.com. They have both diodes
and high voltage capacitors at very attractive prices and the shipping is cheap.
If you're interested I'll let you know if they perform as advertised; if so
they're one that other members of the forum may wish to note. The bottom line is
I'll change all the voltage doubling components and see if that solves
it.
?
Thanks again,
Phil

I should have been able to guess that suits inside Sears would corrupt the Craftsman brand and quality. ?I am sorry to hear that. Here in Colorado Springs, CO we have an industrial supply company - Shop Tools - which offers quality tooling to machinists. ?Additionally, like I previously indicated McMaster Carr provides good quality items that are reasonably priced and delivered swiftly. Not to start an off topic rant - but I sure would like to see American ingenuity and quality return on a grand scale to the manufacturing realm. ?Right now we're driving down the wrong road into oblivion. Try McMaster Carr - their web site is very good. Ken On 10Dec, 2010, at 4:47 PM, Artekmedia wrote:

Could I suggest that you buy a few thread forming taps ( aka "roll taps") for the common sizes found on Tektronix equipment? A normal tap cuts metal away to straighten up a deformed thread, and a roll tap pushes the existing metal back into its proper position. The main difference being that you have not lost additional material out of the threaded area. Also the material has now been work hardened by the thread forming action which is probably good. The common small threads on these older Tektronix scopes seem to be either 4-40, 5-50 or 6-32 with an occasional 8-32. I keep roll taps in 4-40, 5-40, and 6-32. Any machine shop supply, McMaster-Carr and the like, or eBay will have them. Try your local hobby shop or eBay for the set screws, they sell them in small quantities. If you buy set screws from a machine shop supply you have to buy a box of them which is usually 100, but the price will be very good per set screw if you can use that many. When using any roll tap, be sure to use some good lubricant so the base metal and the tap don't weld themselves together. tom jobe... PS If you use a roll tap to make a new thread, the hole needs to be the correct size or there will be no place for the metal to move to if the hole is too small, and you will break the tap. ----- Original Message -----

Jerry, If you live near a larger metropolitan area, look for an industrial tool supply store. ?In the Detroit area, Production Tool, and some others provide quality taps and hardware to local companies. ?Your area should have a similar business. Craftsman tools are reasonable. ?I've had a couple sets for going on twenty years and they serve me well. For a wide variety of individual taps and setscrews check out . ?That's the website for McMaster Carr, a very well established industrial supply company in Chicago. ?They have been around since the dawn of time and are a fantastic resource. The 7603 spec (1984 ed) for the calibrator says that the 4V output is approx 450 Ohm output resistance, while the 40mV and 400mV are approx 50 Ohm. The circuit schematic indicates that the 4V is driven directly from the collector of Q1072 which is a PNP device part#151-0220-00 which Sphere.bc.ca says is a 2N3906 rated at 40V Vceo/Vcbo and ??? joules of energy. The 450 Ohms is the load of the 40mV and 400mV attenuator on the collector pin. Because of the direct connection I would be cautious about connecting anything inductive to this 4V calibrator output. The other two outputs have quite a bit of protection in the resistive attenuator network, but excessive dissipation in those resistors may necessitate recalibration afterwords. My 2 cents, Geoff. |

RPR Conversion from Microfiche to OCR'ed PDF...............
David Garrido
Hello Everyone,
I have taken the liberty to rename the "CONVERTING FICHE TO PDF" thread. We are about 20% to the finish line and I will continue to update the topic about once a week to let everyone know about the progress of the project. Again, so far I have received commitments of about $200.00 USD. We are well on our way to getting this done folks. Lets keep it going. I will not ask for the deposit into my account until we have commitments enough to cover the project cost.......about $1000.00 USD if we are able to use Hakan's latest copy of December 01, 1997. Please email me offline and I will put you on the list for your commitment and keep you updated privately as well as the list here. Cheers, David |
