of course you're right! I have a writed permission from Tek for non-profit copying. I also contacted all other companies mentioned at me homepage. Most will understand the internet as a "copy-and-paste-all-free" collection. But I thing all material should be published with permission from the authors. without their written permission. When I wrote my book, I got official written permission from Tektronix to use pictures from their old catalogs in my book. Since their old catalogs are copyrighted, official written permission is required. It is true that there are individuals and companies who have been copying Tek copyrighted material for years and getting away with it but it is definitely not legal. On a few special occasions in the past, I believe Tek has given permission to the U.S. Military to copy parts of certain specific manuals, but I don't believe they have given permission to any individual or company to ever copy entire manuals, catalogs, or other technical materials that Tek produces. I have also heard that some individuals have asked permission from Tek to copy some of their Concept Books and they have been specifcally denied permission to do the copies. Tek has shown more interest recently in illegal copies of their stuff. I just wouldn't do it without Tek's permission if I were you . . . and I would not accept permission from the local Sales Office either. Real permission must come from the Tektronix Legal Department in Beaverton, OR. Stan w7ni@... in between I reworked my online museum. All visitors are welcome again at . You'll find there some service documents about Tek instruments. Maybe someone (Stan ?!) can check for errors or so. I also have a large assortment of spare parts (like the 556 final tubes) - but remember: I'm located in Germany. I will not comment any replys as I'm on buisness trip for the next two weeks. Yoohoo. I'm making progress repairing my 1S1 1GHz sampling plug-in. The biggest problem was a kaput power supply filter cap - totally dead - well, many, many kohms ESR. Replaced the big old can with a part about 1/6 the volume, yet almost twice the capacitance, and much better quality to boot! Semiconductors aren't the only technology that's improved in the last 35 years!
Also paralleled the smaller final power supply output stability caps with new ones, again much smaller, yet more C's! As for the six missing GaAs diodes in the sampling bridge and elsewhere, I got some SMT Schottky diodes as hopeful subs. The unit is now working somewhat - there are some triggering and offset problems. But, with the right settings and input, I can get a valid trace!!! Whether these probs are a result of the Schottkys, I don't yet know. All I can say is, it's VERY cool to scroll over a 200MHz waveform at 35ps/div! (yes, 35ps. 0.035ns!) Though a bit useless, as the risetime of the thing is *only* about 300ps... |

hi,
we have a lot of tek parts and tubes, CRT's etc. for 5000/7000 and some 400 series units. you can browse through what's sorted and on line at: To help with repairs, there is also a CRT cross reference, and tek part number to JEDEC cross reference for many 1N/2N and IC parts. In the tube section, we do have some tek special tubes, selected by whatever mysterious criteria they thought was important, as well as some commonly needed Tek tubes like 7119's etc. for the generators, and some nuvistors for the older 400 series scopes. sadly, we can't be much help with older tube 500 series scopes, except for CRT's and some miniature HV rectifier tubes, and 6080's. we also have the tek cross reference data to 1984 for semis, and can help with some items not listed on oline for cross-reference data, but these requests are done as we have time, so be patient. In the NEW ARRIVALS section, we also just got dozens of Tek precision capacitor kits for time bases and generators, if you need them. I will add a link to this mail list into the Tek section later this month as well. Anybody in Canada may also be interested in the fact we will be moving shortly, and will have a lot of older Tek scrap we have to get rid of. shipping is reasonable within Canada for that kind of stuff, so might be useful to somebody. all the best, walter walter2@... |

The 453 is not a 'great' scope. :) Secondly, I specifically did not want to include transistorized Tek scopes in the museum because the interest in those is even larger than the interest in the tube scopes. Doing a question-and-answer session with all the thousands of happy users of 5000, 7000, 453, 454, 465, 475, 485 users around the world is not what I set out to do... But of course....
